Split fans
Split fans
Can honestly say this board is showing several splits amongst the fans. You have 3 main factions, the ones who believe no one can express any negative opinion, the ones who are questioning the road we are headed down and the bunch who think we're doomed every week.
While the latter group and middle groups seem to be getting a lot of abuse from the "happy clapping" group I genuinely believe that the "happy clapping" group are the ones to be feared. There is no cause for concern amongst this group, there is no questions of improvement just an apathy to accept where we are and where we are heading. Before we threw away a quarter final in the cup, these know-it-alls where suggesting how safe we were. Over a week later and we face the predicament of not being able to beat two of the bottom 3.
It looks as though we may be safe this season but that is only down to 3 worse teams than us in the league. It's time we invested into the squad and dropped this acceptance of sinking back down a division without a whimper.
I along with many other fans want the club to be the best it can be and I am sick to death with the comments about being over dramatic on here after bad results and bad performances. After drawing to two of the bottom 3 (after the clappers told us how much better we are than them) I expect fans to start questioning performances/lineups so it's disappointing to read fans bemoaning there opinions again.
So where do you stand? For me change is required, that is in the form of investment into the squad, not a change of manager. I'm in the middle group.

Re: Split fans
Difficult time to be a Burnley fan whatever side you are on.
Not allowed in the ground (which I think was a big pull for most Burnley fans, the day out), quality of football is painful at the best of times, no signings to get excited about.
You can understand why so many fans are vocal now compared to normal.

Been in #2 for a while. I believe that the recruitment decisions of the last 3 or so years make days like today an inevitability.
I remember when we found ourselves in Europe and in the best cash position in the history of the club, and people cheered potentially signing Sam Clucas. Given where we were financially and on the pitch, I trace most of today’s issues back to 2018 in particular.

Re: Split fans
I think you may have simplified it a little to make a point.
You have lots of different people who vary their own thoughts from day to day.
I was a fairly happy clapper last week when we won and played some brilliant footie. Not so much this week when we were proper shite.
I think most recognise the need to improve on what we have and hope that the new owners will deliver in summer. Personally I wouldn't be gutted if we dropped out of the Prem. It's dull but it's that golden grail and that thing that everyone aspires to even though it is just a survival drudge.

Re: Split fans
And I don’t think we’re going down this year. Said this from the start.
Re: Split fans
I am in the faction that generally is satisfied and grateful where we are whilst at times thinking we could play more exciting football. I am also in the faction that does not see any difference between the Town, the Community and the Club. Hopefully the new owners will build a brand around that which appeals to many around the world.

I think the main issue is making it like a playgound with all this happy clapper crap.
Who's side are you on is the sub plot with this nonsense, most people can engage in a sensible debate whilst some want an infantile spat.

It seems worse on here because of lockdown. Normally you could head to the pub after the game, have a good laugh over a few pints and forget about it. Everyone is just really fed up!

Re: Split fans
This is the faction I’m in...
We are in position where team has had no decent investment in the last couple of years. Wether it be mismanagement from the old board, the tactics, Covid, the takeover... the only thing I believe the fans can do is reserve judgement and support the manager and the team until the end of the season. We are not poor because of the new owners, or match preparation, we are poor because of decisions made some time ago.
So we have to suck it up

Re: Split fans
I think some of the divisions have been created since the takeover, some people are cautious & have doubts about the future direction, whereas some people have more faith & are more relaxed about the future direction, I think from any perspective being a realist you would concede uncertain times do exist regardless of what will happen.

And then went on to have a right go at what you perceive to be a "happy clapper". A shame, your post had the potential to be quite interesting.

Re: Split fans
The question is, of course, which of the three factions would we most like alongside us in the trenches?
We all know there is a direct correlation between your reaction to your football team losing and your performance during a war, but for which faction is the correlation positive?

Re: Split fans
trouble is all the negative doom mongers who happily slag the team off at every opportunity, just fade into the background after a win.
they detail every fault, but you never hear them admit they were wrong when things pick up. One defeat and they think half the team are for the scrapheap and the manager should be sacked. massive overreaction and plain stupid.

Re: Split fans
We are that's true, however we face 4 tough looking fixtures in the coming weeks, and if we're still 4-5 points clear of the drop zone following those I'll be much happier, I still think we'll stay up this season, but we appear to be inching towards survival point by point, and the failure to strengthen the squad is now sadly hitting home.Stacky_claret wrote: ↑Sat Feb 20, 2021 6:58 pmAt the end of the day we are in a much better position than we were last Saturday lunchtime

Re: Split fans
I can guarantee you won't see us worse than that. See out this month, regroup in March and hit the ground running.
By mid April the baggies debicle will be well out of our fickle fans system, as the Bournemouth one was after the Palace win

Re: Split fans
Cant disagree obviously with that but we have 13 games left and I would say Sheffield united and West Brom are downtiger76 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 20, 2021 7:41 pmWe are that's true, however we face 4 tough looking fixtures in the coming weeks, and if we're still 4-5 points clear of the drop zone following those I'll be much happier, I still think we'll stay up this season, but we appear to be inching towards survival point by point, and the failure to strengthen the squad is now sadly hitting home.
Fulham have won 3 games all season and need to win equivalent of 3 games more than us in the remaining fixtures to overtake us
It isn’t impossible but it is a massive ask check bookies odds they not usually far from
Plus all the games are hard for every team lol
Re: Split fans
I think anyone could guarantee you won’t see worse than that. What is fickle though about criticising our team playing awful football? The majority of people who post on here and are critical about our playing style probably watch Burnley no matter what, when they are allowed to. That is not fickle in my book.Top Claret wrote: ↑Sat Feb 20, 2021 7:48 pmI can guarantee you won't see us worse than that. See out this month, regroup in March and hit the ground running.

If you click on a lot of names they tend to have posted only negatively when we lose and are nowhere when we win...
So you have it 100 percent Wile E
Re: Split fans
Of course most of them are Burnley fans. And it isn’t negative or as Wile says slagging off, it is constructive criticism about another bloody awful display.

Jesus you could narrow it down to about a thousand people in the entire country who never criticise their football club/team. Constructive criticism is fair.
A 10th of that thousand are on here

No, the 4th group are definitely the weird sandal wearers who don't particularly like football/Burnley but are here to hate white working class Englishmen.
Such is the fad for that.
