How many will be here next season?
How many of our top players will be here next season?
Pope - I think we have one more season out of him.
Tarks - I think he goes to Leicester or West Ham in summer
Mee - will retire at Burnley
McNeil - think he will push to leave this summer, similar to Tarks last year. Be whether or not club can afford to keep him.

Depends which division we're in. And that's by no means certain.

I'm hoping we only lose Tarks if you understand what im saying.
I don't want to lose any of them obviously but Tarks looks likely sadly and if he goes then he goes with my blessing

Re: How many will be here next season?
Assuming we remain a PL team, then I can only see Tarks leaving out of that quartet, as you say Mee will be here for the duration of his career, and both McNeil and Pope have long-term contracts, so anybody wanting either of them will have to dig deep, we really have no choice but to sell Tarks this summer as we can't afford for him to walk for free next summer, we've already had Hendrick & Brady running their contracts down and leaving for nothing, and we paid £10m+ for both of them.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 20, 2021 9:10 pmHow many of our top players will be here next season?

I can really see McNeil actively pushing to leave this summer, might be wrong but just get the impression he doesn’t enjoy playing football heretiger76 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 20, 2021 9:20 pmAssuming we remain a PL team, then I can only see Tarks leaving out of that quartet, as you say Mee will be here for the duration of his career, and both McNeil and Pope have long-term contracts, so anybody wanting either of them will have to dig deep, we really have no choice but to sell Tarks this summer as we can't afford for him to walk for free next summer, we've already had Hendrick & Brady running their contracts down and leaving for nothing, and we paid £10m+ for both of them.

Fans that might be a different answer
Re: How many will be here next season?
Think McNeil still has a lot of developing to do and he’ll get the game time with us. Another season will benefit him and us.

Tarkowski will leave don’t expect Pope or McNeil to go unless really silly money is offered. Hopefully we’ll be looking to ship the injury prone duo of Brady and JBG out and bring in two replacements.

Re: How many will be here next season?
Well! if he wants a big move then he'd better start producing on a regular basis, he's not hit the heights this season that he did in his previous 2, and he was poor again today in a game that cried out for his talents to unlock a packed defence.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 20, 2021 9:22 pmI can really see McNeil actively pushing to leave this summer, might be wrong but just get the impression he doesn’t enjoy playing football here

He can still be sold. His future evidently isn’t cut out for top flight football. Same with Brady. Their contract extensions mean we can command some sort of fee for them although be tempting to pay them both up.

Re: How many will be here next season?
We'll surely see the back of Brady in June his contract is up, and I sincerely hope we don't extend again, he's past it at this level, and we need a younger pacier option on the right, JBG I'm afraid we're stuck with for a while as he's recently signed a new 2 year deal.Steve-Harpers-perm wrote: ↑Sat Feb 20, 2021 9:26 pmTarkowski will leave don’t expect Pope or McNeil to go unless really silly money is offered. Re: How many will be here next season?
Apart from Taylor and Brownhill these four named include three of the youngest members of our squad
Most likely if any leave they will be replaced by older guys and the age of the squad goes up another notch

Re: How many will be here next season?
I cannot argue with your point. He was a shock when he arrived on the scene, but has he grown and gone on from the marker he put down? For me it is a no. I do not expect a queue of managers desperate to grab him. He needs to be far more consistently effecting games. Is it when he plays well we play well or, when we play well he plays well? He is useful but he is not a game changer for me. Hope he develops further, but not yet.

I see it the other way. I think we are hindering his progress now. He is a flair player and he spends 90 percent of the time chasing shadows. Needs a move to further his developmentelwaclaret wrote: ↑Sat Feb 20, 2021 9:43 pmI cannot argue with your point. Re: How many will be here next season?
Well if someone gives us decent money for him, he can go for me. He is a bit of a one trick pony in my humble opinion.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 20, 2021 9:22 pmI can really see McNeil actively pushing to leave this summer, might be wrong but just get the impression he doesn’t enjoy playing football here

Re: How many will be here next season?
It's a shame he's so left footed I must say. He's superb he really is but its scary how much he uses the one foot. This isn't a criticism, it's more an observation and thinking of how good it would be if he could use his right foot with equal ability. If he could Jesus he would be some player

Re: How many will be here next season?
Pope, mee, mcneil, brownhill, Taylor, wood, and tarks if he stays, are the only players who should be in our starting 11 next season. All rest should be shipped out or sold.
Re: How many will be here next season?
Yes if he was a genuine two footed player he would be some asset. I wasn’t trying to be harsh on the lad with my one trick pony comment, however he is predictable and easier for defenders to work out how to play him.DomBFC1882 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 20, 2021 9:50 pmIt's a shame he's so left footed I must say. Never going to happen but I do take your point on us needing an overhaul.Barlickclaret wrote: ↑Sat Feb 20, 2021 10:02 pmPope, mee, mcneil, brownhill, Taylor, wood, and tarks if he stays, are the only players who should be in our starting 11 next season. All rest should be shipped out or sold.
I think its harsh on Lowton though and Westwood

Re: How many will be here next season?
No course you weren't mate don't worry about that .
I love watching him play and I think what he needs and what we need more than anything is someone creative to help him out and take the pressure off him a little. Whether that be in centre mid or on the right wing.

Don’t agree about Brownhill. He looks limited and a bit out of his depth in the PL.Barlickclaret wrote: ↑Sat Feb 20, 2021 10:02 pmPope, mee, mcneil, brownhill, Taylor, wood, and tarks if he stays, are the only players who should be in our starting 11 next season. Re: How many will be here next season?
Peacock-Farrell back to Leeds for a decent fee.
McNeil to Leicester
Tarkowski..to the highest bidder, possibly West Ham
Pope to Man Utd with Henderson coming to burnley.

Re: How many will be here next season?
I understand your point, but cannot agree. I think people have been waiting to see how he relates to being found out.... for me I’ve has not shown enough. Probably too one footed to be more than ‘a winger’ for me. Skilful but (very) limited. I wish the lad nothing but success, but I think top players have more to their game... for me Wade Elliott was a far more dangerous winger, but he was never anyway near the Premier until he came up with us.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 20, 2021 9:46 pmI see it the other way. Re: How many will be here next season?
Taken from my post last week:
next season (with ages) we're looking like:
Pope (29)
Lowton (32) Long (30) Mee (31) Taylor (27)
JBG (30) Cork (32) Westwood (31) McNeil (21)
Wood (29) Barnes (31)
And you've essentially got £20m (at best) to improve it, after Brentford have taken their slice of the Tarks money

Re: How many will be here next season?
He’s not at his best on the right but, I think Brownhill will benefit massively from being paired with Cork in the middle. I think Westwood is too forward thinking for us to see Brownhill free in the middle, which is where I see him longer term. Attacking midfielder rather than midfielder in old money, think they call it false 10 now.
