I don't think we will. We are seeing probably the end of an era and I am basing that on the fact that our lack of numbers/quality has definitely become our Achilles heel. Another shoddy half has done nothing to change my mind.

Apart from a couple of saves Fulham created very little against Palace whereas we ripped them apart.Silkyskills1 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 28, 2021 2:57 pmI don't think we will. Re: So will we stay up or not
I think at some stage we'll have another run where we get 8-10 pts in a 5 or 6 game run which along with the buffer we have now and the likelihood that at least 1 of the 3 teams below will just continue to struggle will easily be enough to keep us up.
The danger is that if you get to the last 3 or 4 games and you are still less than 6 pts above 18th then anything can happen and a couple of unexpected results can suddenly leave you in the bottom 3 with no more games left to play

Yep those games are becoming more important by the week, even 4 points out of those fixtures would be decent, but we'll need to play a damn sight better than we have in the West Brom and Spurs games, the frightening thing is how all over the shop our defence is, and that's usually our solid base to build from.

Re: So will we stay up or not
Aside from the financial implications, I'm genuinely not ar*ed about being relegated anymore. Aside from the odd flash of excitement, it's just dull watching us get outplayed week after week after week. Been to the promised land, had a walk around, and it's overrated. Can anyone truthfully say they enjoy watching us more now than they did in the championship? For all the deserved praise we got for beating Liverpool even, was that honestly good to watch? I question your judgement on what's entertainment if you think the answer is yes.
Re: So will we stay up or not
Assuming we do just enough to stay up this summer is huge. The prospect of relying on this group of players but another year older and slower is a scary one.

Yes, I saw the game. My argument is purely based on numbers/quality available. Westwood just having treatment as I post. The cupboard looks bare at the moment.
Re: So will we stay up or not
The point is we get points when it matters, even if not all three. Basically we won't lose against any of the teams current below us.
As for posting rubbish, I tend to learn off plenty of posters like you.
Re: So will we stay up or not
You’re quite right. They should probably do away with the games and just relegate / promote teams based on their “attempts in the transfer window”

Getting to the point where I would not be assed if we went down. Well over-rated this league.

Re: So will we stay up or not
My biggest worry is that statement has been made for about 2 seasons now, and yet we still haven't remedied the problem, a core nucleus of solid PL pros is fine, but we desperately need some flair and pace, both in the wide areas, and in the middle of the park. how easily did West Brom & Spurs break from one end to the other against us in the last week.

Re: So will we stay up or not
What we have to admit, is that if we do go down and say Fulham (for example) get out of it, then we'll deserve to. It will be a combination of factors, such as poor recruitment and spending, injuries (which every team gets) and basically not being good enough, often enough. (Fulham got a 0-0 at Spurs btw) But at the beginning of the season Spurs away was never a game where we expected points. It's up to us to scrape the points together against the weaker sides. If we don't, we can't cry about it (But I probably will, because I actually like being in the Premier league!)

Seems we come across poorer in this league
Re: So will we stay up or not
I think we'll stop up because, unlike Fulham and Brighton we know how to get points in very tight matches when it really matters.

If we stay up it will be with the lowest goals scored in our history, which kind of feels counter intuitive to staying up

You can't stand still in football and certainly not in the EPL and standing still is what we've done for the last couple of seasons. Can't blame the manager - he'll be as peed off as the rest of us. Also, he's mortal, not a divine being with magical powers.

Re: So will we stay up or not
Not if we defend as we have in the last 2 games we won't, however despite all the usual hysterics when we lose it's worth pointing out that we were 15th at the start of the weekend, and we're still 15th now, so our fate is still very much in our own hands, and we should have enough about us to garner points against the weaker sides in this league, as we generally have this season, and that alone should ensure we remain at the top table, but it ain't half getting tense down there now.
Re: So will we stay up or not
Think there should be 3 worse teams points wise. There isn’t a worse team to watch. We are dull and predictable 90% of the time. How often do we surprise the opposition or adapt with our tactics ? Think Pace will have a tough job selling this brand of football to the Americans.

Re: So will we stay up or not
I think we will stop up this season, partly because of the inability of other teams. Say we do though what next?
This squad needs serious investment and given that one of our most valuable assets is out of contract in 2022 we are likely to see him depart, anyone thinking we will bring in 5/6 players over the summer (which is required) is deluded. So we stay up this season but it’s probably only delaying it for 12 months.
In my eyes it’s the start of the end of the fairytale we’ve been on for 6/7 years.

Eureka!! See this is a how you make a really good sensible point without having to use meaningless comparisons like how McNeill did against TAA once or how we created more chances than Fulham against one specific team.
For what its worth I think what you have stated above is spot on about why we are likely to end up a good few points safe with games to spare whilst these two remain in the mire

The good news is I think the same about Fulham
Brighton and Newcastle could scrape three points each

Re: So will we stay up or not
I believe we will stay up. Sheff Utd and West Brom don't have much, if any, hope of avoiding the drop. Fulham can make a good fist of it but they don't score enough. I see them dropping as well, in the end.
I have issues with how we set ourselves up, but there'll certainly be a couple of games between now and the end where we hold out for a narrow victory. That will be enough to keep our heads above water for another year.

Course we’ll stay up , just about .While we were awful we can’t compete with world class players after conceding so cheaply . Late March could be squeaky bum time ,though I think there’s enough garbage we still have to play like Soton ,Fulham , Newc ,Sheff etc to see us over .

Out of our 5 seasons so far, this is by far the most deserving of a relegation.
We’re poor, for a whole host of reasons, and some of those I feel are finally coming home to roost.
If we do manage to stay up, then we’ll be fortunate to do so, and it should serve as a warning shot across our bow.

Re: So will we stay up or not
How do you think we managed to build Barnfield amongst other improvements at the club, and it's developments like this that'll still be standing long after Dyche has gone, and that's a major part of of his legacy we should be forever thankful for, otherwise we might not be starting to produce promising youngsters again, without the PL riches so much investment in our development system would have been a pipe dream.claretcarrot93 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 28, 2021 4:09 pmGetting to the point where I would not be assed if we went down. I do take your point about how deflating this league can be after being thumped by the big boys, but that just makes all our victories over them all the sweeter when they happen, such as the triumphs at Arsenal and Liverpool this season, Chelsea in 2017, and of course Old Trafford last year, yes we'll get the odd doing now and again, but so will most teams in this league, even Chelsea, Liverpool Man City and Man Utd have been on the end of heavy defeats in recent seasons, and they're 4 of the heavyweight clubs in this division, the crucial thing is how we react to today's loss against Leicester on Wednesday, they also slipped to defeat today, and like us they are suffering with injuries, so we have a chance there to right the ship, and 3 points from the Foxes would be a big boost to everyone.

Re: So will we stay up or not
Agree completely, we have looked unstable at all levels of the club, but I think the decision was made early that as we moved into COVID and the takeover was underway that these (two) seasons would be hanging on with pretty much what we had ready for major restructuring once the new owners had got their feet under the table and time allowed for a change of mentality. We look jaded because we are about to enter the next phase of the clubs development. I expect a busy summer, but I expect it to be in preparation for another season in the Premier.TsarBomba wrote: ↑Sun Feb 28, 2021 4:51 pmOut of our 5 seasons so far, this is by far the most deserving of a relegation.

Re: So will we stay up or not
Yes these qualities are what offers me hope, we're the past masters of digging out a gritty win when needed. And I'd bite your hand off for such a win against Leicester, it's points that matter at this stage of the season, just ask Brighton and Fulham whether they'd rather gain praise for the quality of their play, or whether they'd happily put 3 points on the board, I suspect the majority would fall into the latter camp, and rightly so in my view.AlargeClaret wrote: ↑Sun Feb 28, 2021 5:02 pmIf anyone can rouse the troops it’s Dyche . In previous seasons we've had a great record against the teams in and around us in the table, but this year it's not been as impressive. We've only really beaten Sheff United.tiger76 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 28, 2021 5:20 pmYes these qualities are what offers me hope, we're the past masters of digging out a gritty win when needed. Very much in the balance for me. Next three Fulham games, as difficult as they are for them, are key for us. In that time we really could do with a win or two ourselves.
