No we wouldn't starve but that's not really the point. Nobody is claiming that football would cease to exist.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Sat Feb 27, 2021 9:16 amWould we starve? Things aren’t that important to that detriment, we actually thrived & existed before.

Either the stats are important or there aren’t, you can’t have it both ways which 1 is it?

I assume you mean "they".
Really - you STILL don't get it ?
Put it this way, even those old school dinosaurs, Hodgson, Warnock and Allardyce employ teams to study the statistics to enhance individual and team performance so, yup, I'd say they were important just using those guys as an example.
It's funny, you talked about football "evolving" - how did this happen, you reckon ? By luck ? Fairies ?

Re: What am I missing?
Why does your argument keep changing? The stats aren’t that important to supersede tried & tested methods of coaching & finally you’ve admitted that football would still happily continue without the stats, thanks for agreeing with me I think I’ve concluded what I needed to know, in respect to the other posters inputs this will be my closing post as I don’t want the thread to get pulled, have a good day.

Re: What am I missing?
Probably a good time to remind ourselves how Jakub tried to argue that stats aren't important by using, er, stats to try to make his point.
Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Tue Feb 23, 2021 4:41 pmYou can do all this yourself by just reading the match report & listening/watching the game, eg Chris wood starts 6 games & scores 2 goals, 1 being a header & 1 being a volley that means he’s scored 1 in every 3 games & a header in 1 in 6 games & a volley in 1 & 6 games, basic knowledge of the game should tell you what you need to know without even looking or paying attention to the stats.

Re: What am I missing?
So, so weird, Jakub just making stuff up.
Nobody has ever said on this board that stats are important enough to "supersede tried and tested methods of coaching" so, no I've not "finally admitted that football would still happily continue without the stats." Stats are used by elite level coaches to assess past performance and enhance future performance using real data, real figures, real comparisons not hunches and guesswork.
The beauty is, of course, that even the tiniest of improvements can be measured - Brailsford's Cycling GB "small margins" and all that.
Junior level football would continue without much attention being paid to data - as it always has - but elite level ? That's you just being silly.
By all means make your post your closing one, seeing as there is no earthly reason for this thread to be pulled other than to spare you further embarrassment, its probably for the best. And for you.

Re: What am I missing?
The OP wanted to know what he is missing well the inane bickering this thread has descended into like with a lot of other threads maybe shows you why some people like to take a step back and take a much more light hearted approach to posting on this forum.
Still if serious people arguing like school kids is what you yearn for then I can see why some of the more playful posters upset you and others like you.

It's not just in this message board it is the Burnley way. Demean other opinions, be self-righteous but have a generous spirit and help anyone in need. Best people in the blunt , too honest but passionate.

Thank you for your words of wisdom, DA. I see no inane bickering, just a few well-meaning posters trying to educate one of our own who -seriously-cannot see the importance of statistics to professional football in the modern era.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Sat Feb 27, 2021 10:59 amThe OP wanted to know what he is missing well the inane bickering this thread has descended into like with a lot of other threads maybe shows you why some people like to take a step back and take a much more light hearted approach to posting on this forum.

That's my role as far as I'm concerned. Cheers, anyway.
