Old Ambulance Station site - building work

Post by burnmark » Fri Feb 26, 2021 2:13 pm

Anybody know what’s being built on the site next to Manchester Road station? New car park? Retail/fast food area similiar to the adjacent KFC and Screwfix site?

Is the ambulance station gone then? Any idea where it’s all moved to?

I only found out about a couple of weeks ago but I believe it has been gone for some considerable time. I think it might have moved to the General Hospital.

It's going to be a car park for the station.

The modern looking new ambulance station was finished about 12 months ago and is sited next to the Hospital entrance on Briercliffe road.
The old station is now being demolished and an additional car park is being created for British Rail train passengers.

Not long before the Station shut, I was in Kitchens on Trafalgar Street paying for some fuel when an Ambulance went screaming past, sirens and lights on .... I looked at the young lass serving and said, " He won't sell much Ice Cream going at that speed ! " ..... to my shock, she just about collapsed in hysterical laughter. She'd never heard the old Eric Morecambe line before ( 1973, and I don't think it was new then ) ... :D

I’m not sure which is more surprising. Her not knowing a classic gag, or not using pay at the pump!
