Re: Favourite musicals
Saw Les Miserables on Broadway a few years ago - wonderful performance of my favourite musical.
I saw an excellent production of Guys and Dolls at Salisbury Playhouse around the same time. It showed that you don’t need to go to the West End or Broadway for first class musicals. The young ensemble class were so versatile and talented - singing, dancing and playing a variety of instruments. Other favourites are Pandora’s Box, Cabaret and Evita.

You sound like a right barrel of laughs!Wile E Coyote wrote: ↑Sun Feb 28, 2021 12:30 amsomeone mentioned We will rock you..........that is a hideous bag of sick, truly plague like in its production. obviously a fan of top gear. maybe some of the older musicals were okay, but the modern variants are hideous. anything loyd webber had a hand in is pigswill. the miserable one is just repulsive claptrap for the middle class pests, odious slop.

Saw Bat out of hell a few years ago it was brilliant but it helps if you like the songs, of the classics I like Phantom of the opera.

If every line is sung then that makes it an opera doesn't it?lakedistrictclaret wrote: ↑Sat Feb 27, 2021 9:14 pmAlready mentioned are West Side Story, Carousel and The Wizard Of Oz, all brilliant.
Also, Les Parapluies De Cherbourg, in French. Unusual in that every line in the film is sung. It's superb.

Re: Favourite musicals
That depends on the theme.
Re: Favourite musicals
Evita
Book of Mormon, best live show I've ever seen
Madame Butterfly at Vienna Opera House, made me cry
Cabaret, thoroughly enjoyed
Motown Story I didn't enjoy although a big fan of the music
Thriller, I actually enjoyed better than Motown story and I'm not a fan of MJ.
Recently enjoyed the Freddy Mercury story film, not so much Rocketman although it was just ok.
I really enjoyed the Blues Brothers but not really a musical I suppose
Another film I thought was great/funny at the time, Coast to Coast, Lenny Hendry, not really a "musical" although it was definitely about music
A Star is Born, the original one for me.

Re: Favourite musicals
definitely before my time I think but must admit, I never really watched musicals when younger, probably an acquired taste although I have vague recollections of Calamity Jane (Doris Day I think) singing on top of a stagecoach, that my parents were watching on TV, but that's all I can remember from that.
I think the only musical I actually went to when young, was Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, on an early date I believe, so everything was wonderful in those days lol
