The ref's & umpires in rugby & cricket are just as bad as in football

What winds me up about French refs is that British players enquire of British refs get an explanation and walk away smiling. With French refs they just look bemused. You don’t know what tweak of the rules they’ll come up with next.

I don't understand the laws either, or the tactics.

I was brought up with football, but when I went to Grammar School there was no football, and I was made to play rugby. No-one ever bothered to explain the rules or tactics. I hated it, and I have never really warmed to it.

The French ref today has got the major decisions right first time - then confirmed by the TMO but he is very fussy - consistent but fussy. He’s not been helped by the poor discipline of the players either

At least in football the players just get on with it and accept the crap decisions. Can’t stand the prima donna rugby players.

All these people do their best and snide remarks about winnings etc. are pathetic. Without these people who stick their neck out every match there would be no competitive sport.

Rugby refs both Union and League are superb. Greatly helped by the fact they don’t have players in their ear all the game. Football could learn so much from rugby.
As I’ve said elsewhere it is French refs that are the problem to British sides. Their style and interpretation is so different and they actually see themselves as gods for the 80 minutes.
