Sad news. That’s no age at all.

I know he had a brain tumour some years ago but I thought he’d recovered. Sadly not.

His spell at Burnley was not his best but, no doubt, has had a difficult time lately.

Terrible and only 65....

Amazing thinking how long ago he and Twaddle were at The Turf and made those comments about Glen Little.........whatever happened then pales into insignificance........thoughts as ever in these situations with his family....

A very good footballer, with an almost comical earnest and diligent style, imagine Yohan Cryuff as a defender.

I’ve only heard one side of the story but Little couldn’t lace Waddles boots, and he is a bit of a tit so I’d probably side with Roeder on that one

From Gazza’s book

“In August 1991, I went to Rome to meet the Lazio management and be officially introduced to the club.

“My dad and some of the family came, along with Glenn Roeder, my old team-mate from Newcastle. He was planning his retirement from football and was looking to go into coaching.

“Although he's ten years older than me, I'd always got on well with him and he had been great to me since I'd come south to Spurs, sheltering me when I was in trouble, giving me helpful advice and showing me real kindness.

“It had been decided that he and his wife Faith and his family would come and live in Rome while I was there to keep an eye on me.

“He would be my football friend and companion and stop me from doing anything too daft. It was also an opportunity for him to look at Italian coaching methods, to see how they did things, which he thought would be useful to him in his future career.”

Yes, he told me it was the best job he ever had but he also said, given the way Gazza behaved, it was the most difficult.

Love it.

Nice tale from Don Hutchison on Twitter who said Glenn insisted he made the five hour trip back home to be with his seriously ill father. Glenn kept him company on the phone for the entirety of the journey and Don was able to be with his dad for his final hours.

While his time here wasn't the best, he seemed like a first class gent. RIP.

Nice to see some of the players of the time - Andy Cooke, Mark Robertson, Paul Weller - speaking so well of him.

A big loss. Classy at the back in more ways than one. I think his "trick" which he regularly used when bringing the ball out of defence is one of those things that I will probably be able to recall even after a few years of dementia.
Terrific partnership with Peter Jackson - another centre back that I had a lot of respect for after he had helped people escaping from the Bradford City fire
