Wydra
I don't think they have played together often but they complimented each other brilliantly tonight. Take the point but the performance was the thing I'll take tonight over the result. If that Burnley turns up over the majority of our last games we'll finish top half.

Re: Wydra
We need to stick with this pairing 100%
Woods aerial threat combined with Vydras runs into the channel means we are actually mixing things up and making the oppostion guess what we are going to do for a change. Good performance tonight and good finish from Vydra

Makes the team player better as you have Vydra running the channels and you can still go direct to Wood who is no slouch himself.

Re: Wydra
Early days but they looked very good indeed them two. As said by someone else further up, it adds another dimension to our play being able to do something different. Keeps the opposition guessing. The regular top two have been most excellent for us but let’s be honest they are WELL sussed now.
Let’s hope SD can see the value in it.

If we are to improve on one or two of our forwards in the summer then it most certainly would not be either of those two in my opinion

Re: Wydra
Vydra and wood seem good together. Not everything came off but at least they actually link up and get us up the pitch. Sometimes we go an entire game without wood and Barnes passing the ball to each other. Jay has been just terrible recently as well. We do have a good set of 4 strikers though.

Re: Wydra
did well considering the service wasn't great, Vydra battled well, Wood got in good positions but too many poor crosses didn't help. Most certainly our first choice front two though

With games together comes understanding and I fully believe these are our 2 best strikers and they'll score many goals (relatively speaking)

Re: Wydra
Massive shout out to Woody. Looked good at Spurs but thought he was brilliant tonight. Moving more freely, more confident and more creative. Gave their centre halfs a nightmare, just a shame of that great save from Kasper, because that was all that was missing tonight for me. Really chuffed for Vyds, ran miles tonight and worked his socks off. Great finish.
More of the same please Woodra!!!

Re: Wydra
Think we are lucky to have have four decent strikers.
The appreciation of Vydra on here is sometimes misplaced but took his goal brilliantly today and more to the point worked his backside off.
Other than the goal, Wood was the greater threat.
Great to see them together thought & hope it continues.

Re: Wydra
vydra is tenacious and makes some great runs, he has a real fight in him to get in and win balls, that showed tonight. Great performance. we need players like him, we do waste a lot of possession by overhit crosses and poor passes. vydra on his day can make amends for that by going directly at their defenders.

Yes despite what many of our fans think we do have a decent quartet of strikers, I really don't believe the forwards are an area we need to upgrade.NewClaret wrote: ↑Wed Mar 03, 2021 8:57 pmThink we are lucky to have have four decent strikers.

All 4 have contributed when called upon throughout the season, the bigger problem for me is the cm and wide areas, and if we can recruit wisely in those positions over the summer, then we'll find our forwards will massively improve their goal tallies.
Just look at tonight for example, and how much of a handful Wood was when he got decent service, on another day he'd have bagged at least a couple, it was only the brilliance of KS that denied him being on the scoresheet, and this is why he needs to play when available as for all his faults he's a goal threat, and if he and Vydra can form a partnership then great, because we looked a much better team with this duo up front.

The point about misplaced appreciation is well made. I don’t recall another player having divided so many fans before.
His supporters are extreme, to the extend that reading comments on here over the last few seasons you would think we have a world class striker, I think the this pushes another set of fans in the other extreme direction.

Vyds took his goal really well and Wood was unlucky not to take all the points.
Leicester are no mugs.
It was a Palace performance and not a Spurs one.

Re: Wydra
Totally agree. Although with Lowts in this form I think the areas we need to strengthen most is RW. Get a great player there and we're sorted. I'd also love a creative midfielder but not sure our style would allow us to have two decent wingers and a creative midfielder?tiger76 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 03, 2021 9:47 pmYes despite what many of our fans think we do have a decent quartet of strikers, I really don't believe the forwards are an area we need to upgrade.

Would like to see Dwight have some serious competition/cover too. We've been very lucky that he's not been injured over the last two years. If we could achieve that and get the right level of consistent service to our strikers, I have no doubts they'd be scoring goals.

Wood - maybe not the most pleasing on the eye, but undoubtedly our best goal scorer and biggest threat when getting the service.
Barnes - love his ****housery, a real character on the pitch, wins us FKs galore (which will always be important to us) and always seems to create himself a chance or two per game.
JRod - one of our own, always feel a sense of pride when he plays, great lad, top man bun, adds a touch of class whether that be a stunner away at OT or a great turn and pass vs Fulham.
Vydra - offers something the others don't with his movement, can get in behind, works the channels well and most importantly works his backside off for the shirt every game.
What's not to like about that? Or why do we have to argue about being in such a great situation? Nowt as queer as folk.

Re: Wydra
They're our worst pairing to go against as a CB duo:
- Wood will win everything in the air and bully you
- Vyds with run behind you all day long
All our strikers offer something a little different, but they are great to watch

Enjoy this MV peach against Leicester City from a few years ago. Quite similar to Leicester's goal last night, too.

Re: Wydra
Our first summer signing simply has to be a RW, it's crazy that we're expecting Brownhill to fill in when it's not his natural position.NewClaret wrote: ↑Thu Mar 04, 2021 10:17 amTotally agree. It's a great shame JBG got injured just when he was starting to hit his stride, and he's been a huge loss.
A creative midfielder would be a dream, but as you say fitting one into our system might be difficult.
Cover for Dwight would be welcome if only to take some of the strain of him, and also give him a breather now and then.

Re: Wydra
Ludicrous. It also infuriates me more because very cheap wing options have been available from the Championship in recent windows. I have no doubt that they weren’t starting prem quality but would certainly have offered better cover than we have now (for next to nothing).tiger76 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 04, 2021 6:20 pmOur first summer signing simply has to be a RW, it's crazy that we're expecting Brownhill to fill in when it's not his natural position.

Yep, real shame for JBG. Hope he’s back soon and we can finish the season with him, but he needs to be cover for a new & reliable RW next year.
