Re: Matt Lowton - Last two month
He's probably been our most consistent player since Xmas, and it's noticeable that he's improved since he penned his new contract, just maybe now his future is settled he can focus on his footy.
Whatever I'm glad we've tied him down for another 2 years anyway, he's fast becoming one of our most important players, and even by some Burnley fans he's somewhat underrated I feel.

2 very good games from 4 for me. As I've said on the ratings thread his 1st and foremost is to defend. Today as on Sunday that part of his game was inadequate

Re: Matt Lowton - Last two month
Matt Lawton has a habit of getting stronger as the season progresses, it is why I tend not to take any notice of when fans are calling him early season... it has happened more than once, but yes hopefully being happy and having it confirmed he was staying has helped his confidence levels. A player I think has received more than his fair share of stick but every time comes back stronger.

Re: Matt Lowton - Last two month
I don't think its got anything to do with his contract, but everything to do with his porn star moustache. In all seriousness though, I think Bardsley competing for his place has definitely helped. We need to get to a similar position with places on the wing too. Ideally 2 wingers to add to the competition.

Re: Matt Lowton - Last two month
I love him busting forward as of late.
(don't forget Brownhill then covers / holds)
Also always hugely impressive is his speed busting a gut to get back (just watch).
Taylor is fast going forward, when available also .. but he's been caught out a few times getting back (not so good) Dwight's getting back has been better but does he ever really manage to cover a break?
Lowton half kills himself getting back - just watch.
(and yes I like Bardsley - but face facts he is unlikely to do the same as above)
- yet Bardsley is great when we get locked back a scares the knickers off some we play against

Lowton has been our most consistent passer over the last few months, we should all be delighted with his form

Re: Matt Lowton - Last two month
In the first third of the season I thought he was a weak link...he had some shockers, particularly with poor positioning, however he's possibly been out best player since then imo. Not sure if Sean has told him to get forward more or if it's a confidence thing, but it's definitely adding something to what was a stale team when trying to attack.
I also think Cork coming back has made a big difference

I didn't recognise him from that photo then realised it is him, it's the new haircut that threw me. incidentally, where are all these footballers getting their haircuts -Chris Wood. Back to the topic. Lowton has been brilliant of late, long may it continue.

He is a man benefitting from confidence , as well as from the trust SD places on him. His passing yesterday was at times exceptional.Last year he would , for me have been second choice to Bards, but since Christmas he has been like a new signing.Long may it continue
Re: Matt Lowton - Last two month
Clearly was been told not go forward up until the last month. Which begs the question why dyche didn't trust him going forward?

Do you remember when the quick full back from Brighton basically camped in our 18? Suddenly Lowts has been allowed the shackles off (or said f it I’m going) and I love it

Re: Matt Lowton - Last two month
The whole team have been pushing forward better since the Villa game, which we'd all complained about, Lowts is just doing it better than the rest.
Our football performance was great last night, and apart from the obvious blips due to burn out, our football has improved 100% since Villa. We haven't got the results we deserve on occasion, but that's football. As long as we continue to play positive, forward thinking football, we'll be reyt.

One word for him recently - immense. Not that I think we're carrying underperforming players, but he's an example to everyone on the pitch how you can step up your performances to a new level.
I've previously thought we need to sign a new RB, but if Lowts can continue this form in to next season and Bards can stay fit and provide cover, I think we can afford to invest elsewhere.
One thing that's frustrating me though... last night there was a time where Lowts bombed down the wing on the overlap, was in acres of space from what I could see on TV, and we cut back with a ball inside. Play was broken down and we were exposed - they overloaded three on the right. Something similar happened against Spurs - Lowts bombing forward and Brownhill played a one yard pass to a Spurs player instead of the five yard pass needed to Lowts. Again, Spurs went straight on the attack although seem to remember them not taking advantage of the gaping hole on the right that time. I love using the full backs more, but if we're going to do that we MUST play them in when they go forward, not chose a risky option that risks leaving us exposed when turned over.

Couldn't agree more - he has been excellent recently. Has he got fasted and fitter? He seems to be flying past people at the moment and providing a real attacking threat.
Re: Matt Lowton - Last two month
As mentioned in the other thread, I think he could do a good job right midfield with Bardsley at right back. If JBG is out, Brady and Brownhill just don't cut it in that position.

Re: Matt Lowton - Last two month
Lowton busting forward is great. It only works if and because of Brownhill having his back so to speak.
Both players really do cover some yards...
Brownhill likes a tackle too.

Lowton certainly is frustrating though. He has had moments of brilliance lately but also has been pretty poor defensively in a few games. I think we certainly need someone better but don't see it changing now. Certainly when we have lots of other positions to fill with next to no money!

Just typical of the type of player Sean Dyche recruits for the Club.
Honest, humble, hard working, committed and rewarded with the occasional spell of brilliance!
