Handball rule change
IFAB have changed the handball law so that accidental offences that lead to a goal will no longer been penalised following last night's controversial decision to rule out Fulham's goal vs Tottenham
Accidental handball that leads to a team-mate scoring a goal or having a goal-scoring opportunity will no longer be considered an offence, the game’s law-making body the International Football Association Board has announced.
The controversial section of the handball law came into play during Thursday night’s Premier League game between Fulham and Tottenham.
The Cottagers had a goal by Josh Maja ruled out when the ball cannoned into the hand of his team-mate Mario Lemina from a Davinson Sanchez clearance when he was a matter of yards away.
And now the IFAB has agreed the change, which comes into effect from July 1. However, competitions have the flexibility to introduce changes prior to that date, IFAB said.
An IFAB statement read: “As the interpretation of handball incidents has not always been consistent due to incorrect applications of the law, the members confirmed that not every touch of a player’s hand/arm with the ball is an offence.”
It added: “Accidental handball that leads to a team-mate scoring a goal or having a goal-scoring opportunity will no longer be considered an offence.”

"Hows about I recommend a scheme whereby" if the ball hit the arm/hand then its not handball but if the arm/hand appear to play the ball it is. Credits to Monty Python Life Of Brian. keep it simple.

Re: Handball rule change
I was more upset with the non-penalty for Liverpool last night. Kante had his hand up like a wing. A completely unnatural position. Should have been given.

Re: Handball rule change
It appears that if you deliberately handle the ball it will be an offence, however, if it is accidental, it will not be considered an offence except if you score with the hand or accidentally handle before scoring.
I wonder why they never thought of that before now?

Re: Handball rule change
Getting sick of rules changing mid season. Might be the right call but you need to decide the rules, stick to them, then change them during the season.
Nobody can keep up.
In my opinion, VAR is a good addition to the game but has highlighted some stupid rules and also removed the element of common sense in decision making, which is what is causing the issues.

Spot on. Newcastle are 2 points better off after their pen winner at Spurs. They then amended the law on that situation.NewClaret wrote: ↑Fri Mar 05, 2021 3:25 pmGetting sick of rules changing mid season. Good or bad the laws should not change mid-season.

Re: Handball rule change
The law needed changing, but the timing stinks.
How unfair is that to Fulham, if they get relegated not because they had least points, but because they changed the rules mid season.
The people in charge of this shambles should hang their heads in shame.

Re: Handball rule change
I posted higher up they changed the hand ball law after Newcastle won at Spurs. Last minute Penalty after Dier got hit on the arm with his back to the ball.
Re: Handball rule change
It's to kow-tow to a certain demographic that prefers the talk of 'Was it or Wasn't it' rather than watch a game of football.
Gossip rather than sport, enacted on the field of play.
Abroad it wouldn't surprise me if the Pl changed the brand name marketing to 'Fupvol Englan Bet'.
Let's see what Varsity Rules are applied tomorrow against Nike Dial Square.

Re: Handball rule change
How about "if it hits you on the arm below the shoulder and the arm is away from the body it's handball" job done.
They could even insist on a line sewn into the sleeve at a specific height, above which would not be deemed handball.

Re: Handball rule change
define natural for me, to me it was a natural position, he didn't move his hand there to block the ball intentionally.huw.Y.WattfromWare wrote: ↑Fri Mar 05, 2021 3:03 pmI was more upset with the non-penalty for Liverpool last night. Re: Handball rule change
Why is the amount they go on about Fulham so disproportionate to their actual standing?
If that had been Sheff Utd, West Brom, us, Brighton, no-one would have mentioned it again.

How did the game manage for all those years without needing to change the rules every other week?

Re: Handball rule change
That’s true but under the new rules the majority of defenders have had their arms tight to their sides and some even have their hands behind their back.
He had his biceps down by his side but both of his hands were raised and outside the width of his shoulders. That was why I mentioned wings. He had already been hit by one attempt in this position and when the second attempt came in he made no attempt to lower them. I can’t think of any sensible reason why your hands would be there.
Opinions eh!
Re: Handball rule change
Putting your hands behind your back limits your movement though, Kante's running style meant his hands were there, he didn't raise his hand towards the ball, as the feet move, the hands come up. Natural positioning, ball was blasted from 2 yards away, no chance to move them.huw.Y.WattfromWare wrote: ↑Fri Mar 05, 2021 8:18 pmThat’s true but under the new rules the majority of defenders have had their arms tight to their sides and some even have their hands behind their back.

The whole refereeing is a joke atm, I hate the whole handball nonsense tbh, 95% of the time it's accidental handball but still given. Then you have the offside rubbish, Werner last night was ruled offside with lines drawn on his hand, you can't score with your hand and that's never been offside before. A complete shitshow all around.

True. I was all for VAR but the officials are making a right horlicks of it.KRBFC wrote: ↑Fri Mar 05, 2021 8:39 pmPutting your hands behind your back limits your movement though, Kante's running style meant his hands were there, he didn't raise his hand towards the ball, as the feet move, the hands come up. I’ve said for years the FA should put a video out, pre-season, giving examples of what is and is not acceptable and it would be there for everybody to reference. They won’t cos they love the grey areas. Gives them more control.
I also think offside should have a decision “to close to call” and that should be onside. They take a single shot and put the lines on the tv but the boot is in contact with the ball for far longer than that. First touch you could be on, as the ball leaves the boot you could be off and vice versa.
Re: Handball rule change
The reason for the change is because Arsenal haven’t scored any goals with their hands this season

Yes they did, however, they would be absolute clowns to change anything else before the end of this season after the way that they have messed about already this season.

We are talking coco central, I certainly wouldn’t put anything past them, masters at creating further controversial confusion.Ashingtonclaret46 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 05, 2021 10:09 pmYes they did, however, they would be absolute clowns to change anything else before the end of this season after the way that they have messed about already this season.
