Re: Eric Pieters
All the best to Pieters and his family but this is a football thing and not an Arsenal thing. The more tribal we are around things like this then the more the problem will grow.
All fans should be together in supporting any player subjected to this and all fans should be together against the sc*m that infect every club across the whole of the game

I know it shouldn't be necessary but surely there comes a point when all these sports people just decide social media isn't worth all the aggro?

You’re right, but where do you draw the line?
If it’s not sports people it will be actors, tv personalities or anybody else they want to target

Re: Erik Pieters
Cowards. Surely if threats are made then this should be a police matter.
Re: Erik Pieters
Its now time for someone to be made an example of. A year’s prison sentence is needed.
Re: Erik Pieters
Agree it is a societal issue but I think the behaviour of the manager contributed. Arteta's behaviour was childish, petulant, factually wrong and likely to incite and justify moronic behaviour. One day this might lead to tragedy. If we need VAR we should be defining the acceptable limits of what a PL manager can say whilst not preventing him/her expressing his/hers feelings. No I don't mean gagging. It should be a mandatory part of their qualification and right to hold the position.

Re: Erik Pieters
Worst case, what was Peters supposed to do? Tell VAR that he had deliberately handballed it in the box and that Mr Friend was right it was indeed a penalty? Just the sort of thing Tony Adams would have done. What a bunch of retards. And I agree that Arteta is partly to blame. At least Sean tends to moan about decisions in a semi humorous way.
Re: Erik Pieters
It's absolutely appalling. It's about time that something was actually done in order to put a stop to this sort of thing. I hope our club has asked Arsenal for their views on this, whilst I accept its nothing directly to do with them (Arsenal) by showing some support for Eric along with letting their supporters know that this sort of thing will not be tolerated by fans of Arsenal football club and if any supporters are aware of who is behind this they should contact the club which in turn will be investigated and passed on to the Police.
Re: Erik Pieters
God what sort of world do we live in?
It will affect him in my opinion but hopefully not for long.
Fortunately he has a tremendous set of lads and manager + staff to support him.
He's also become a firm favourite with the Burnley fans although we would obviously condemn such behaviour committed against any player, in any club.
Erik: we love you, you're one of ours and you deserve praise for your professionalism, not sick rubbish like this.

Arsenal could have quickly condemned the actions of some of their supporters- unfortunately they’ve not bothered

The world would be a much better place without social media. Too many idiots using those platforms.

Re: Erik Pieters
What’s really sad about it is, while I know Erik is a footballer and all, he’s genuinely one of the nicest people on the pitch. He’s a really good willed individual from what I’ve seen of him interacting with other players in the midst of games and on his social media.

This place is one of the cesspits where those types of idiots would spout their crap, fortunately for this forum though its moderated quite well, unlike Twitter.

Some people like the idea of being able to remain anonymous on social media platforms which have famous people on there.

I agree 100% & the people that tend to get the abuse still remain on it to receive further abuse & carry on complaining even more, if something presents trouble or distress to you in life you keep away from it not continue to attract it.

How did we ever manage without social media ? OK actually, easily solved, just don`t do it.
Re: Erik Pieters
I doubt he’s bothered in the slightest - he’s a tough nut is Erik.
Arteta is one for the prick list, too.

Re: Erik Pieters
Mildly amused at your political correctness with the his/her thing. I must have missed the appointment of a female manager in the PL. I would have thought that until such a thing happens ‘his’ would suffice.COBBLE wrote: ↑Sun Mar 07, 2021 1:42 pmAgree it is a societal issue but I think the behaviour of the manager contributed. Re: Erik Pieters
It is societal but it’s very much in facebooks court. I have complained countless times about specific instances like this which clearly out of order and all of them were deemed fine. Hit ‘em where it hurts

Re: Erik Pieters
A massive modern day problem created by the internet. Fake news, hacking, election interference, scamming etc. etc.
Keyboard warriors are like troublesome wasps in comparison but their abuse and threats are extremely upsetting and have to be dealt with. The trouble is that you don’t know whether you’re dealing with a serious nutter or with a spotty kid in his back bedroom.

Re: Erik Pieters
I am shocked that the bigwigs or educated people in and around football havent demanded change. Why not create their own social media platform with restrictions and the so called signing in process which is what everyone is clamouring for. Therefore creating a new revenue stream for not just footballers but all sports people, also managing the stuff which is posted and the possibility of finding any individuals which abuse much easier.
Also this would make insta, twitter, facebook and the likes have to review their terms of use as I know many only use such platforms for sports. And if not it would at least hit them where it hurt
