Only problem for me is how lighthearted they take the cheating element of this... it’s like one big joke but it’s designed to get players booked or sent off thereby gaining an unfair advantage.

But it simultaneously needs dealing with the utmost of seriousness by referees and officials.

Not just the screaming but the continuous cheating diving.

I honestly wasn't certain Pieters even fouled him, but when he got the yellow I was convinced it was because of the ridiculous scream and roll and that was before I'd even seen any replays. Lacazette was up and running immediately after the card was shown. Joke and embarrassing, but managers and players just regard it as part and parcel of the game and it's plain wrong.

Just one of many cheats. There are circumstances where players really do get hurt and scream in pain but the majority do not hurt and simply try and get an opposing player booked. If the PL and all Managers addressed their respective groups and told them "no more" would that stop it? I really don't know.

If a player diving can be booked for simulation, then surely screaming is another form of simulation and players should be booked for it unless they carried of on a stretcher and taken to the mortuary. I thought there must be a sniper in the press box when Lacazette screamed. Pathetic individual playing for an obnoxious team.

The thing is, if a player is really injured, they stay still, don’t roll around, and don’t scream because the pain tends to initially take your breath away.

Sadly and ridiculously, being booked for simulation seems to have gone by the board. IFAB have just had a big meeting and diving wasn't even mentioned. Whenever I talk to anyone about football diving and feigning injury is the number one topic, I've never heard anyone be passionate about the new goalkick rule or how wonderful it is to be able to kick the ball backwards from the centre spot.

I wonder why in football it's not frowned upon but in every other sport the player would be a disgrace.
Instead of it being addressed it's accepted and joked about. Pieters should have his yellow recinded and Lacazette should be fined with a multiple match ban .

Put it this way, Marriner got the yellow card out a lot slower than the red card, it wasn't till after the third scream that he got it out. The scream's got Pieters booked.

Referees (and the media) now seem to accept cheating as part of the game. IMO a Club should have the right to cite a player (as in rugby) for clear and obvious cheating to gain the advantage of a penalty/ free kick or, as in this case, a pathetic (but successful) attempt to get an opponent carded.

Not sure if anyone saw Llorente's antics for Leeds against Villa a few weeks back.

A slight contact from the Villa player on him resulted in him screaming, clutching his shin and rolling on the floor whilst simultaneously springing into the air. When the Villa player went to give him the obligatory 'mate, come on' and picked him up, Llorente suddenly sprang to his feet and squared up to the Villa player, even going so far as to follow him until the Ref intervened.

Even the commentators were saying 'Isn't he meant to be injured?'.

The sooner this is picked upon and regularly mocked by all forms of the media, the better.

I'm no fan of MotD presenters/pundits but hats off for this move. About time the diving/feigning bad injury/screaming (and thumping the ground) got called out.
At some point there'll be a "cry wolf" incident where a seriously injured player is ignored because of all this feigning injury has become so prevalent.

I think you are right about the possibility of a serious injury being ignored. They need to get it sorted now.

The worst bit is the referees falling for it.

There is no reward for honesty, in some instances you’ve to cheat to get what you actually deserve!

Against Leicester, I think it was Vydra was fouled in front of the bench and linesman but because he tried to stay standing he got nothing! They are essentially saying you are only impeded if you fall over and or scream. It’s nonsense.

Footballers of the past would not even stay down, if they could help it. It showed the other team they had been hurt and that was not something you wanted to let be known!
