Water damaged iphone

Post by cricketfieldclarets » Sun Mar 07, 2021 9:04 pm

Any tips other than the old stick it in rice?

iPhone 11 got a little wet (at the bottom typically where the charging port is).

Initially it was coming up with the message about waiting for it to dry before charging. That’s now stopped and can charge in the usb in car but don’t want to risk trying on the proper charger in case it damages the phone (or worse).

I thought the iPhone 11 was meant to be water proof up to one metre?

The phone itself is now working. But the speakers a little muffled and car play won’t work.

Hoping it dries out overnight. But anyone had similar damage?

If they claim it's waterproof upto 1m then claim on the warranty.

Herein lies the problem.

It doesn’t cover water damage.

Switch it off, pack it in rice sit it by the window and try again tomorrow afternoon if you can

You can get them fixed locally I’m sure, I’ve even replaced screens, batteries and cameras before myself - not on the newer models though. Just bought the parts on Amazon, with a simple tool kit and followed a YouTube video.

I think that actual model is IP68 upto 2 metres, but if the history of the phone as screen replacements or battery replacements it could affect the warranty, I’m not sure because it’s not my phone, I’ve got waterproof handsets but I never submerge them underwater to test them as it’s not advised despite the manufacturers claims, but if repairs have been carried out without sealing properly the ingress protection isn’t sound.

Look on the bright side, you might have an apple tree in the morning full of iPhones.

So far so good it’s working fine and charging fine with no issues yet but haven’t tested on CarPlay again.

The phone itself has never been damaged or tampered with. Is in as new condition. So warranty would be fine but think it excludes any water damage.

Also the iPhone only has 12 month warranty from memory and this is... 13 months old 😂

All Apple devices have 12 month warranty
If your with EE they offer 2nd year warranty with their.own.locked devices
If your device is water resistant itl be repaired or swapped under that warranty even for water damage

This once happened to my sons iPhone and I thought it was dead for sure. It wouldn't turn on or do anything.

Stuck it in a sealed tub of dry rice for a week and when I took it out again it started working.

Another tip for you, if you ever accidently drop your phone in a box of rice, just let it rest in a bowl of water for an hour or so
