Pieters v Taylor

Post by Milltown1882 » Sat Mar 13, 2021 8:33 pm

Interesting debate we’re having tonight after another phenomenal result.

On the balance of this season alone who deserves the left back slot, Pieters or Taylor?

Can make an argument for both but seems tight at the moment.

Said before. But for me Pieters every time. Age aside I think he edges everything else.

Taylor.

Pieters is solid but I’ve never seen him have a MOM contending performance, where as I’ve seen more than a few from Taylor.

Taylor for me when fit, but Erik was good today, I'll be honest.

I think we are lucky to have 2 very good left backs. I feel comfortable with either of them in the team.

Taylor for me. However I think Pieters performances have improved this season and so the gap is not as wide as I thought it was last year

They're both really good players.
Charlie has matured superbly and, Pieter's is proving what an inspired signing he is.
I'll sit on the fence and leave it to SD.

I admit I was wrong about pieters after last season as he has been fantastic when called upon this season but still Taylor for me

Taylor starts when fit for me ... Peiters is a cracker to have on the bench to come on in anywhere we need him ... almost the perfect utility player will always give 110% win win win

Taylor for me, he’s clearly been struggling with full fitness for most of this season but when he’s 100% he is class.

Pieters has had a solid season and such a good signing all round. From his interviews he seems like a great guy too.

Taylor is younger and quicker and excellent defender.

Pieters is a complete professional and excellent defender.

Just Taylor, however, Pieters is a fantastic asset to this squad on and off the pitch.

Taylor is a brilliant defender, Pieters is full of spirit. His cross late on in the game today, was awesome-the one Godfrey just managed to get his head too

Pass the Dutchie to the left hand side.

Not much in it but Taylor is the more dynamic of the two.

Taylor, but we're lucky we don't need to worry too much about that position at present.

Pieters as been an excellent signing and rarely if ever lets the team down, but when Charlie is fit and on song he does it for me.

We don't get them all right but we've signed Bardsley, Walters and Pieters from Stoke in the last four years. Walters didn't work because of injuries which forced him to retire, the other two have been superb signings. I posted this on the Wilder thread yesterday, but these were the sort of signings Sheffield United needed last summer, good experienced Premier League players.

Right now, I suppose I'd play Lowton and Taylor of all fully fit and playing well but what two superb back up full backs we have.

Agreed and what has Matt Lowton been on? Now regularly showing up in the oppositions penalty area in open play. Let off the leash and showing what an excellent FB he is

Lowts has certainly stepped up recently, he's on a terrific run of form.

When fully fit Taylor is the better of the two at left back
Pieters has shown himself to be more adept in playing other positions when injuries call
If Mee were ever out again I could see him covering there rather than bringing in Long, and it also keeps JT on his stronger right hand side

Taylor, when on song, is first choice - but he can be rather inconsistent and when not on song he is not good at all.

Pieters never makes you feel those wow moments but his consistency is very easy on the eye and the nerves.

In summary, I don't mind seeing either name on the teamsheet.

Pieters is best. Close though. Could argue Taylor too.

More experience Pieters, and offers more goals and assists over last 2 seasons despite playing less.

Defensively both can be culpable, Taylor edging it on blocks. Taylor may link with Dwight better too.

As many have said, for many years we had no decent left back. Let us be glad we have two. That’s what keeps us up - no weak link. No weak back up in any position, apart from maybe CB.

Agreed. It’s one of the only positions where it really doesn’t concern me which of the two is playing.

I said to my son while watching this that when fans get back in the stadiums I reckon Pieters will be afforded ‘Marney like’ status from the supporters.
He’s so dependable - and gets so involved. A proper cult hero. He’s been reliable and excellent over the past year. Plenty versatility too. Having said all that I’d Still have Taylor in the first XI though - it’s probably our strongest position on the pitch.

Taylor and Lowton first choices supported by great back up in Pieters and Beardsley .

At the moment, Pieters. I think Taylor looked jaded after he came back from injury. Pieters is match fit and playing well, so nicks it at the moment.
