Throw ins from wrong place.
Now we dont have ball boys, and balls are placed at intervals around the pitch, it seems to be a common happening that a player picks up one of those spare balls and then takes the throw in from adjacent to the ball, as opposed to where the ball went out of play. Happened a couple of times this evening when Everton were chasing the game and on both occasions stole about 10 yards. Referees dont seem to want to do anything about it. Personally I think they should be made to use the original ball unless it has gone over the perimeter hoardings making it difficult to retrieve.

Yhw one that annoys me is when the ball goes out by the corner flag but the defender can take it 10 ft further up the pitch.

Re: Throw ins from wrong place.
A blatant one with about 5 mins. left. The thrower had picked up the 'second ' ball almost before the original one had gone out of play, stealing about 10 yards in the process.

Re: Throw ins from wrong place.
The gent who sits next to me in JML lower suggests that marks similar to the ones 10 yds from the corner flags should be placed at 10 yd intervals so it is clearer where throw-ins should be taken from.

Re: Throw ins from wrong place.
So many “rules” are bent, ignored or abused in football. It’s like no other sport in that regard. I think this is the root of disrespect for the officials, which leads to a low standard of officiating. It’s a bit of a vicious circle unfortunately.

Re: Throw ins from wrong place.
City scored the important second goal against us earlier in the season from a throw in over 10 yards away from where the ball went out. I don’t know why they have rules and VAR when they make it up as they go along.
Re: Throw ins from wrong place.
It's not stealing when we do it. It's a strategic appropriation of touchline orientation.
And it's also social distancing.

They did it for their first throw in

Re: Throw ins from wrong place.
This happens all the time, but it rarely leads to a goal being scored, although I'm sure there has been a couple of examples from earlier in the season.
If the refs are applying the laws strictly then yes the throw in should be taken from the correct position.
Another thing which gets my goat is how often players will move the ball at free kicks to give themselves a better chance of scoring, sometimes it's shifted forwards, and sometimes it's shifted backwards, and I don't ever recall a ref ever stopping them doing this, even though it's blatant cheating.
I've been watching the Six Nations for several weeks now, and whenever there has been an infringement the officials quite correctly have been sticklers for accuracy in playing the ball from where the incident occurred, and their judgement has never been questioned once that I've noticed, mind you the rugby players respect the officials, whereas the spoilt brats who frequent a football field have zero respect for any officialdom unfortunately.

Re: Throw ins from wrong place.
It's just another example of disrespect for the Laws of the Game and those who are supposed to enforce them. When I raised it on here previously the concensus of some of our refereeing fraternity is it's allowed to ensure the game flows. It's blatant cheating and weak officiating, it can't be anything else.
Re: Throw ins from wrong place.
Linesmen (Assistant Referees) should be equipped with the aerosol sprays that the referees have and quickly spray where the ball went out. The throw in should then be made behind the mark. Not difficult really if anyone in authority cared about enforcing the rules.

Re: Throw ins from wrong place.
How’s that going to work? What happens when the ball goes out on the opposite side of the pitch to the AR? What happens when it goes out 50 yards away from the AR?Staniola wrote: ↑Sun Mar 14, 2021 7:55 pmLinesmen (Assistant Referees) should be equipped with the aerosol sprays that the referees have and quickly spray where the ball went out. Re: Throw ins from wrong place.
IRS annoying and if basic rules are not obeyed or enforced then what's the point of the rest of them surely you cannot pick and choose what you want to adhere to.

Think there's a Panorama special on this next month.

Seems to be more efficient than ball boys though. Just a perception, maybe the Panorama special will drill into the stats, but the ball seems to be back in play quicker with this method.

Spurs at home particularly sticks in my mind, think it was last season, ball went out by one bench and was taken near by the next bench, they went up and Kane scored, nothing was ever said, but clearly gained about 20-25 yr advantage. Fortunately Barnes then got us the second and we went on to win.

Re: Throw ins from wrong place.
Have said a few times before
Why not four AR's to cover each quarter of the pitch
in all games, any attacks down the left hand side are not covered sufficiently by officials (obviously also applies to defending on right)
The players know this and take full advantage of all situations
But itis galling to watch Ar's allow things to happen even when they are in the immediate vicinity
Its the old tale of not wanting to question the ref in the middle

Re: Throw ins from wrong place.
Not last season, but it was the season before I think and yes it sticks in my mind too because at the time I was absolutely incandescent. That anger was nullified in the end because ultimately we won the game, but the main problem with that particular incident was the 4th official catching the ball as it went out and immediately throwing it to Danny Rose who was running up the touchline. Rose never broke stride, took the throw on the run and Kane caught our defence still wondering what the hell was going on. The 4th official hopefully got a bollocking for what he did because it was a blatant "assist" and clearly helped Spurs score.buzzclarets79 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 15, 2021 10:30 amSpurs at home particularly sticks in my mind, think it was last season, ball went out by one bench and was taken near by the next bench, they went up and Kane scored, nothing was ever said, but clearly gained about 20-25 yr advantage. I think the last thing we need is more match officials.Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Mon Mar 15, 2021 2:03 pmNot last season, but it was the season before I think and yes it sticks in my mind too because at the time I was absolutely incandescent. Re: Throw ins from wrong place.
There was a goal this weekend, can't remember who, but from a corner where the ball was not in the place it should be taken from but the goal stood.
Surely VAR should disallow the goal and make the corner be retaken?

Re: Throw ins from wrong place.
I think they should have 22 referees who are all responsible for a player each. Imagine if we would have had two refs positioned in between Ben Mee and that Everton player he fouled (and caused to handle the ball) they would have been no dispute and claims of a penalty from the Burnley fans

Could be quite good fun. I can picture 'em concentrating on the game running towards each other at full pelt, coming together at the half way line and collapseing in a heap rolling around screaming

Re: Throw ins from wrong place.
This is as old as they come and as always annoyed me too.
Best way to stop this is for the referee or linesman to indicate where the ball went out and if they throw from the wrong position then it should be classed as a foul throw. This will then stop overnight.
