Interesting that Doug Collins took the No12 shirt despite missing out in the starting line-up. Willie Anderson in their starting eleven. Is that the same Willie Anderson who partnered George Best on either wing at Old Trafford over 9 years earlier when they gained revenge for their Boxing Day thrashing on Boxing Day at Turf Moor?

Yes, the very same Willie Anderson, he'd signed for them from Villa a couple of weeks before the game. He'd played for Villa on the Turf earlier in the season but wasn't in the team we beat at Villa Park.

Doug Collins sat watching the match without having got changed, in effect we had no substitute but named him.

I went to this game on the train from Birmingham New Street. I don't recall any problems getting back.
This was my first visit to Ninian Park. I watched the game from where Tony ended up, the paddock in front of the main stand.
Like Upton Park, Ninian Park was one of the grounds where you had to be careful.

My only visit there was in 1992 along with my 12 year old son. Never been back and never likely to either.

One of the most horrible, hostile of places to go. They built a new stadium just a few yards away and is now one of the friendlier places to visit.

Had a few concerns over the years at Ninian.

We were in the stand behind the goals sat on forms. Home fans were a nightmare all through the game .We had to run the gauntlet after the game to get back to the coach park. Enjoyable journey back on good old Central Motors ( B Coach of course 😉)

Not a very friendly place at all. Our coach got bricked on the way out of the city, one of which rebounded off a window. Luckily for me the mark it made on the window was right in line with my head.

I was also in the same side that Tony mentioned and it was a bit hostile to say the least, but surprisingly I can't remember any Burnley fans going onto the pitch.

Because the schools were concerned that there would be a lack of swimming facilities if they weren’t to have the same priorities at the new Thompson Centre.
