Both the "superiors" and Blackburn bang average.
Up the Clarets.
Up the Clarets.
Re: PNE
To be honest, I wouldn't begrudge them getting promoted as they are the one rival that hasn't been in the Premier League. They also seem to have changed their opinion of us and don't begrudge our status now, unlike other people just down the road. It might also give us 6 points .

Think you could be correct in your thinking there Commy, l live amongst them now, and find the majority appreciate where we was, and the consecutive seasons we have achieved Premiership status, unlike our near neighbours, who seem too begrudge our success,Commy wrote: ↑Sat Mar 20, 2021 5:56 pmTo be honest, I wouldn't begrudge them getting promoted as they are the one rival that hasn't been in the Premier League. Re: PNE
When I first saw the table I thought they had a big enough points cushion but Rotherham have FOUR games in hand on them. Pearson in particular is a massive loss for them and the signing of Ched Evans has split the fan base with all the associated baggage around him. Surrounded by PNE fans so I hear about their travails a lot - think a lot are hoping Trevor will stick his hand in his pocket after the surprise Many Clouds win at Cheltenham...

He does that on a regular basis - to the tune of £7m - £10m a seasonSwizzlestick wrote: ↑Sat Mar 20, 2021 6:51 pmWhen I first saw the table I thought they had a big enough points cushion but Rotherham have FOUR games in hand on them. there are a few that are starting to worry that they are too used to spending more than they earn and looking at what that eventually meant at Bolton and WiganSwizzlestick wrote: ↑Sat Mar 20, 2021 7:04 pmNever enough with fans though is it... Isn’t their record signing still David Healy?

Having studied in Preston and lived there for a while, I always look for PNE results as they have a hard core fanbase who deserve success ,its just not coming anytime soon.

Re: PNE
Look at Prestons next four games: Norwich, Swansea, Brentford, Stoke.
I would not be shocked at all if they lost all four of those, in fact I’d be shocked if they didn’t. Rotherham have four games in hand on them and better goal difference (and won yesterday). Preston in a very precarious position and could quite easily nosedive into the relegation spots within the next few weeks if teams around them get a few wins.
As said above, dodgy sacking Neil at this point - form or not. Who are they going to get in? They’re utterly penniless relying on hand outs from a bloke in his late eighties to stave off serious financial trouble. I’m shocked the fans haven’t stuck by Neil, he’s done a good job and had his best players sold every season with very little paid out to replace. I’m not sure what they expect - they’ve never been in the Premier League and are currently in that mid table non-entity position that they’re more than accustomed to. Ideas well above their station and this sacking could relegate them, in my opinion.

Feel for Neil. Built a decent side and had it sold from under him. No way should he be canned.

Re: PNE
Agreed - sacking Neil now would be a significant risk
Always thought he was a decent manager and keeping Preston mid-table given his budget relative to some at that level seems a good achievement
Struggling to think of anyone available who is a better fit or could get them in and around the play-offs

Re: PNE
I met an acquaintance who spends a lot of time over here in Spain a couple of days ago. He is a Blackburn season ticket holder who has a property over here. I talk to him to be pleasant, but he normally comes out with stuff like Burnley will get relegated soon playing the kind of of football we do, we are to small to survive in the PL etc, etc. However, I met him for the first time in quite a while two days ago, he said to me "I watched your game against Everton, I'd hate the Rovers to play you now, you would beat us easily, you're miles ahead of us now". I smiled pleasantly as I always thought do and reminded him how long we had been in the PL and how long it was since they beat us.

Just looked on the Preston forum and they are all wanting the club to go ‘all out’ for Chris Wilder.
Good luck with that lads...

Re: PNE
Big call. I think they’ll struggle to find a better manager to be honest. Lost key players.
Just seen they’re not getting anyone in for the rest of the season. Eek. Might put a cheeky few quid on bottom three.

Re: PNE
That’s what makes it seem so unfair on him. Davies and Pearson by far their two best players sold, and very little cash to replace like for like. Reminds me of January windows when we had Steve Cotterill really.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Mar 21, 2021 3:09 pmFrankie McAvoy appointed until end of season.
Neil has done a decent job there but he was on a hiding to nothing after the January window.

Re: PNE
Neil seems a very competent manager at Championship level - don't think he will struggle for work
Seems an odd decision by PNE especially as they obviously have no replacement lined up
As others have said given their current form and upcoming fixtures they could get dragged into the relegation scrap

I haven't got a Scooby-Doo what my best team is - extract line from the BBC match report post Luton defeat, probably not the best thing to say considering the current form & being in situ for 4 years.

Re: PNE
To be honest if Burnley were in the Championship for the last couple of seasons, with the COVID disruption I’d be happy treading water and staying in the division and being sensibly run given the dire state we hear the lower leagues are in financially.
If Burnley have over achieved Preston have been pretty much doing what we would have expected to do, and possibly better. While I don’t really have an anti-Preston rivalry despite living in in Preston for a few years and having moved back to Accrington, now studying there... I have never really heard much anti-Burnley feeling.... although to be fair the Humanities dept is full of Clarets and scousers who follow Burnley as their second team... as social history lecturers, Burnley as a town is a respected goldmine (for many reasons).
I’d love to see the, come up for a couple of seasons, if only for the reaction that would result closer up the 65. Added to which I really, really do not like Blackpool fans, even though I struggle to dislike the club itself.

Re: PNE
Now there’s a good place to start.
They clearly have problems. Too many players coming out of contract and three key players sold in January to avoid them going for nothing.

Re: PNE
The running of PNR has been far from a disaster, for the most part Risdale appears to have learnt his lessons from earlier in his career and the club runs to a tight fiscal budget - that budget allows them to run at an agreed loss, courtesy of the owners generosity, recently the tendency has been to fund losses with new share issues rather than loans - not unlike the Venky's with those down the road. It is not the way I would choose to run a club, but it is all above board, you do worry if the family will be happy to keep that going once Trevor Hemmings passes on.

Hemmings is 85yrs old and a net worth of £1 billion.
It would appear he's content just keeping the club afloat, however they do need to start planning for a future without him
