Re: Pope
Probably but as soon as GS gets a chance to get Pickford back in, he’ll take it.
This is the sort of game he should be playing Pickford in anyway.... keeper should hardly be tested so pointless really trying another keeper. He’d learn nothing whatsoever.
If it doesn’t show, I’m almost finished with this England now....

Pope should let 3 in tonight as payback for not being first choice in previous games.

Re: Pope
Hmm! don't know if t's the best thing for Nick to play tonight or not, either it means he's the number 1 in Pickford's absence, or he's getting a token appearance prior to Henderson usurping him in the pecking order.
I'm surprised GS didn't give one of the other keepers 90 minutes, I know it's a WC qualifier in name, but in reality it'll be a training session for England, and whoever is between the sticks should get an easy night, hence why I thought Johnstone might have got some game time.
Anyway Pope should get another clean sheet, and if I'm correct that would be 5 on the bounce for his country, even taking into account the strength of opposition that would still be an achievement.
BTW BPF also plays tonight for NI in Italy, although I somehow suspect he'll be rather busier than Nick is likely to be.

Re: Pope
Nick Pope starts for England v San Marino. Bailey Peacock-Farrell starts for Northern Ireland v Italy.
How often does this happen, two keepers from the same club side starting for their respective countries?

Re: Pope
Is it a good manager that says he already knows his starting line up for the first game of Euros on June 13th? What sort of message does that send out to players who may think they arent quite in it yet, or those on match day 1 when they learn they arent in. Theyll think he picks his team months in advance all the time regardless of form
Certainly builds an environment where the favourites rest on their laurels IMO, and those not quite there feel they dont have a chance of breaking In.
Very bizarre man management..

Re: Pope
Hi tiger76, you type faster than me - though it may be assisted by you only typing "BPF" rather than Bailey Peacock-Farrell.
Agree, it will be fantastic if BPF can get a clean sheet.
Re Nick Pope starting - given that he's only had 4 games for England, it's probably right that he gets the start tonight.

Re: Pope
3-0. England playing some good stuff and with a freedom that can only be attributed to having such a calming, safe pair of hands 80 yards behind them.

Haha, it used to be that ITV made the BBC look cheap skates in the days when we were not laughing at Pierce’s back pass.
Good to see Pope in, might even watch the second half... must be missing football.
