Is the commentator the same chap who did the Plymouth play off away game a few years later?
It is

Dave Lancaster, wasn't it? :(

We were excellent at home that season, but could barely win away, although I remember a fantastic win and performance at Scunthorpe at the back end of that season.
Yes we were jekyll and hyde home & away, ditto 94 when we hardly dropped a point at home, but couldn't buy a win on the road, well except until we visited Plymouth. :)

I attempted to watch it on the big screen from the Longside. I gave up with 10 minutes to play and went up Townley to keep wicket for Briercliffe.

One of those games that if it wasn't so important, I'd have left midway through the second half.

I was a steward in the Bob Lord stand that season...in the days before RockSteady...we were employed directly by the club and had basic rules to follow but for the most part we could watch the game. My spot was the second exit in from the Cricketfield stand. A great view..and I can be seen on the back cover of the Champions video from the following season as Davis heads a goal against Barnet...anyway i digress...

The Peterborough game was quite memorable. I missed virtually every goal. That game..quite bizarrely..a small black cat had been found in the stand. It had made itself at home in the boiler room just off the concourse and for some reason we had to take turns in keeping an eye on it. It just happened to be my turn when all the goals were going in! Considering i had seen us take some hammerings off Peterborough in the previous seasons I missed the payback.
Quite why we had to look after a small cat I will never know.

The big apple nightclub the night before was the highlight of Torquay

We still do!
When it was announced he was leaving I actually wrote to him c/o the club, (admittedly a weird thing for a grown adult to do, but...) I assume he probably never got the letter, but I wanted to say thanks for the great memories and for everything he'd done and that I didn't agree with the decision as I felt he still had plenty to offer. I remember I felt pretty strongly at the time because I'd never done anything like it before or since. IMO he was absolutely instrumental (along with others) in turning us from Division 4 cannon fodder into a team on the up. He was a brilliant and inspired signing.

I definitely remember being disappointed that he didn't play more in 94-95 in the Championship. Part of that might have been down to how underwhelmed i was by Alan Harper.

I do remember him scoring a belter coming off the bench in that 2-2 home draw with Bolton. He was a great player for us

He was a fantastic player for us. Remember his interview on the open top bus parade after the play off win when he was a bit tipsy!

A lot to thank Jimmy Mullen for. Despite being a division higher than us in 1989 he was happy to sell Deary much to the amazement of the Blackpool fans.

I think we need petition Dave Thomas to make his next biography about John Deary.
