The FSA have this evening launched a survey on VAR and the experiences for match attending fans (if we can remember that far back).

It won't take too long to complete but will be very valuable if there is a good response.

It could have been spectacularly good for clubs like us... they have made a bit of a mess of it to be honest.

Let the referees do their job. They were pretty good at it really. I believe VAR undermines them. If they had followed their original mantra of getting involved to rectify a “clear and obvious error”, then it could have been very good indeed. Lampards goal for England is a good example of how it’s use could’ve helped the game and the officials, Harry Kane being offside by 2mm isn’t.

In its current format, it’s an absolute joke, and it’s ruining the match day experience.

Goal line technology is brilliant, it works, it doesn't delay anything and it's not part of VAR.

Totally agree, it mentioned it on the survey, that’s why I mentioned it on here. For me decision making hasn’t really improved with var but it has dramatically reduced the spontaneity of celebrations.

I’m firmly in the scrap it camp. At the end of day it still rrquires subjective decisions, and clearly as far as referees are concerned 2 heads are no better than 1.

Same. I think the decisions still go in favor of the refs original call and the 'buddies club' needs to stop.

Don't think the answer is abolishing VAR, its a step in the right direction. If we give up on it we are just going back to square one and having poor referee decisions going against us.

Anyway, filled it in and added my thoughts. Hopefully they look at the bigger picture and what to improve rather than comments like 'just get rid of it'.

Done, var could and should be brilliant. As it is though it isn't good enough and is detrimental to the game, I believe the issue lies with the personal rather than the tech though.

Goal line technology should stay but the rest of it should go. Not enough consideration is taken into account of the match attending supporter and VAR seems more to be for those who watch at home.

The fact that in the same competition some games are done with it and some without it makes the whole thing a joke.

As others have said, more than happy with the way goalline tech has worked, which is a clear answer of did it cross the line or not.

VAR apparently is for “clear & obvious errors”
If it’s taking 5mins to draw some coloured lines to decide if somebody’s armpit is offside, then that isn’t “clear & obvious”

If it is to continue, and I haven’t got an issue with that if used sensibly, then for offsides it needs to be taken from an arbitrary point, such as taking a line from the toe of the boot on the floor of both the attacker & defender, and if any of the lines overlap then not offside

Agree with that about consistency in competitions.
We saw that in our FA Cup game when Keogh got the red. If that had been played at MK it wouldn’t have been overturned (however correct that may have been)

Offside calls are not subject to the clear and obvious bar, as they are supposedly factual calls like goal line incidents. But clearly the margin for error with the technology available to judge offsides is far greater which results in the farce that we have.

Done it. VAR is for geeks who follow football via social media clips. It's absolutely killed the game for players and fans who go to watch.

So what if you get a 0.4mm offside decision 'correct', if everyone is enjoying their afternoon less? I go to be entertained watching a football match, not to sit around waiting for some official in a hut to draw lines on a monitor.

All in all VAR just ruins the supporters joy, the ball hits the net and you jump for joy or whatever you do then think hang on have i jumped or celibrated to early, get rid of it its spoiling the game as we know it....................VAR out.

My match day experience would have been ruined even more( if there) if pieters had been sent off and given a penalty away vrs arsenal due to an obvious referee error

The problem with offsides is that in non-VAR matches, the rule is in front = offside, behind = onside, level = onside. Level obviously being judged by the human eye. In VAR matches, there is no level. The VAR people can argue till they're blue int he face that they haven't changed the law, but they have. VAR matches are played under different rules, in practice, to non-VAR matches.

All they need do is use VAR on offsides by showing a still photo of the pass. If the players are level, it is onside, as judged by the human eye just as it is in non-VAR games. It will speed things up no end.

Some questions in there which could mean one or two things and difficult to just answer with a "strongly agree or disagree" options.

Full faith in the FSA in doing this and bringing the responses from fans to the governing bodies but at the end of the day I feel sadly this won't have much of an effect as it is quite clear the FA, Premier League, Football League etc don't care about the needs or wants of the fans.

Should be scrapped completely. In an ideal world I would even like to see goal line technology go, give it all back to the on field officials, but I can see goal line technology is at least totally objective so I can live with it.

Had a read through but couldn't see anywhere if this is going to be published for everyone to see the results or whether they will be kept internal.

The results will be published. I’ve seen some of the info so far but I think the survey is going to run for another week. Brilliant that over 21,000 have now completed the survey.

I think VAR could be good and if used more like it is in Rugby it would work. However, as DSR highlighted further up the thread with the offside law, the laws need to be simplified so they can be judged and applied consistently. To many of the games laws currently are left to judgement of individuals who will see things differently to another (although missing a shirt pull or handball is just poor officiating).

Hmm! I'm not sure Bournemouth and Watford would agree about goal line technology being objective.

Handball and offside rules are not VAR but laws of the game. The survey is more about gaining info on the experience of VAR.
