Alexander Kacaniklic
Does anyone remember him because I certainly don’t. Sean Dyche brought him here on loan in 2013 from Fulham but he was recalled after a month apparently.

Yes, remember him. Didn't do much, seemed pretty lightweight.
Now at Hajduk Split apparently, so carved out a career at least.

Vaguely..
What was the blonde haired lad called that we had on loan from City? Played up front, went playing in Europe and was doing alright but haven’t heard about him for a few years

Yes, left footer if I have the right one.
Technical player that didn't really get into games, but had one good game and then went back if I remember rightly.

Re: Alexander Kacaniklic
Kačaniklić played six games for us, debut at Charlton when Charlie scored the stunner in a 1-0 win and last one on that horrible night at Leeds when their Austin scored the only goal to beat us 1-0.
Started at Liverpool I think and then went to Fulham but he'd had a good loan under Dyche at Watford in the previous season and was outstanding against us when they came from 2-0 down to beat us 3-2. He scored their second goal.
Didn't offer much for us though.

I remember Chris Kamara trying to pronounce his name on Soccer Saturday when he was covering a Fulham game, something like Alex Kaca-na-click-click.

I was at the game which could well be the highlight of his career, when he won the Euro u21 Championships with Sweden in 2015claptrappers_union wrote: ↑Wed Mar 31, 2021 11:41 amJohn Guidetti

Didn't Guidetti score at Barnsley away on Boxing Day under Laws?

Yep, think Bikey got the winner. Two days later Scunthorpe came to town which saw off Laws. Was a strange season that one, always on the fringes of the play offs but it never felt like we were going up.claretburns wrote: ↑Wed Mar 31, 2021 1:05 pmDidn't Guidetti score at Barnsley away on Boxing Day under Laws?

Re: Alexander Kacaniklic
I remember us getting Gerry Creaney on loan from City in the 90’s. He seemed like a good player at the time, great first touch etc, as were in the third tier. Clearly better than that level and I have it in my mind that he scored almost a goal per game for us?
Re: Alexander Kacaniklic
I remember being quite pleased when we signed Kacaniklic but he wasn't at his best for us. Shame about Guidetti as I'd have liked him longer. Went on to be a firm favourite at Feyenoord after leaving us.
Just reading up on Creaney. Seemed to score every time I saw him. According to Wiki 8 goals in 10 games. As mentioned above. Looked a good player at that level.

Your mind is absolutely correct, he bagged 8 in 10 for us, he never did much after his brief stint at TM though.Claretforever wrote: ↑Wed Mar 31, 2021 1:39 pmI remember us getting Gerry Creaney on loan from City in the 90’s. I saw one of those games on TV where he got a hattrick. The opposition was lamentable - I never realised how poor Dutch football had become.Burnley Ace wrote: ↑Wed Mar 31, 2021 3:25 pmNo wonder, 20 goals in 23 games!!! Pity he didn’t have longer with us.

Re: Alexander Kacaniklic
Very poor. Always remember Altidore. Around 40 goals in 70 games in Dutch football but only two goals in similar number of games in England.
Re: Alexander Kacaniklic
Can't disagree that Dutch football has gone downhill. I watch it very closely and have many close ties to the Netherlands. You only have to look at their national team which causes a great deal of angst amongst Dutch people I know. They yearn for a talent of the likes of Overmars and Bergkamp. The league standard has dropped alarmingly as has their production line of talent.
That said. I think Guidetti would have been a useful addition prior to his illness at the level we were at.

Re: Alexander Kacaniklic
He would have been part of the first Burnley side to win at Ewood Park in years, were it not for Dunn's massively offside goal in the 138th minute. Marvin Bartley was also in midfield! Amazing we came so close, really.

Gerry Creaney was god. David Johnson. Richard Shaw & David Reeves also gave us a glimpse of quality.
I do wonder now when we spaff millions on players and wages that are generally classed as mediocre for our level how much different those seasons might have been had we had the few grand to sign those 4 permanently or even kept glen little or John mullin.
I do genuinely think we’ll be broke again at some point (kind of are now) and will wish we’d put the Hendricks and Brady money in a rainy day isa.
Then again I felt physically sick when we gazumped Bristol City by millions for Andre Grey but that one turned out ok.
I thought Kaclinky was actually ok for us.

Re: Alexander Kacaniklic
Yes but don’t forget the level we were at... they were on loan to Burnley because we did not have enough money for a tin of paint... hand to mouth coins on table levels at times from what I remember. AND because they could not get games for their parent clubs. If I could have wished anyone to stay through those years I think Nicky Walker was by far the biggest missed opportunity as his later career proved...Garnerssoap wrote: ↑Fri Apr 02, 2021 12:33 amGerry Creaney was god. We had him for 7 years in his absolute prime. He was better than us. We got lucky with Super Glen.

Do you not mean Paul Shaw or am I confused?
Re: Alexander Kacaniklic
It was Paul Shaw that we had I think on loan from Spurs? A striker?
Re: Alexander Kacaniklic
Shaw was on loan from Arsenal and I think we showed interest in signing him on a permanent at a later date. As mentioned above, he and Johnson were other loan players who turned out to be good loan signings.

Re: Alexander Kacaniklic
We sold John Mullin to make way for Tony Grant back in 2001. We sold a non first team regular and replaced him with a first team regular.Garnerssoap wrote: ↑Fri Apr 02, 2021 12:33 amGerry Creaney was god. David Johnson. Richard Shaw & David Reeves also gave us a glimpse of quality.

Creaney was recalled by City but did nothing for them, Shaw became a midfielder while Reeves just wasn't for sale at the time. As for Johnson, I was at a supporters meeting that summer and Glen Little told the meeting that if Johnson signed, he was out of here. Johnson didn't come across well in Lenny Johnrose's book either.
