Anyone that says Pope didn’t do something wrong there is simply just biased.
Pope did a misplaced pass that made stones run about 15 yards backwards towards his own goal.
Unfortunately this will most likely be his last appearance for England. He has looked like a fish out of water.
Or alternatively, he played the ball to where the space was, affording Stones the time to control the ball, assess his options and play the right pass.
Unfortunately, Stones played himself into trouble.

Potentially, I just think if he passes it to stones feet instead of making him run back towards goal then that goal just wouldn’t have happened.
All ifs and buts, just my opinion that he had a direct hand in that goal.

I hope Pickford has a really poor run for Everton until the end of the season, however I'm sure some on here want him to play well for his club side.

Good finish by Maguire, but a set-piece was the only way England were going to net 2nd half, still I suppose the result is the main thing, but this 2nd half showing in particular should be a huge wake up call ahead of the Euro's.

It was the sort of pass he’d play week in week out to one of our full backs. Difference being, we’d have tonked it up field.
I must admit, I’m not sure without seeing it again, who was around Stones had the pass been played to feet.

I don't care who plays in goal if England win the Euro's, but in all honestly it won't matter who's between the sticks because this English side isn't good enough to overcome the real top quality sides which they'll encounter this summer, but we shouldn't be surprised that's been the case for decades, so why should we expect anything different with the current crop.

This play acting is embarrassing
They try and do it so convincingly but completely fail
They may as well go full European/South American and scream whilst doing 500 barrell rolls when "fouled".... At least it's more funny!

England are a boring outfit to watch and follow. You would have to offer me a 5** hotel, free bar, hospitality tickets and a stretch limo on tap for me to go to any England game, other than Scotland at Hampden

I personally do not think that stones is better than mee or maguire is better than tarky, you might think they are top top players but I don't,each to thier own pal.

Fair enough, for me neither Mee or Tarks are in the top 7-8 English CBS.
However It would be interesting to see the capability of Tarks and Mee in an attacking team. It’s difficult to judge there true level with our tactics.

Mee and Tarks have no chance of getting picked not even as 2nd choice centre backs

Saved his side a point there, but yet another disappointing result for NI. Clean sheet for BPF though, so he can be satisfied with his night's work.

Poor performance.
Normal for a Southgate team.
Punished for over playing at the back, struggled to create any chances from open play.
Every Southgate team ever.

Finished 2-1 a bit of a coupon buster that one, but I'd still be wary of writing off the Germans in the Euro's, they often come alive in tournaments.

It's not so much about Pope/Pickford or Tarky/Maguire.
It's about the poor tactical set up. The lack of movement off the ball. The lack of chances created from open play. The insistence on a suicidally static pass pass pass approach. The lack of apparent strategy or gameplan.
Southgate isn't good enough.

if Pope is allowed to play the game that has made him the best English goalkeeper instead of being a Southgate jerk off then we don't concede that goal. Southgate is a clown that has never done anything to justify him having the job #southgateout
Also, Wright can **** off

Yes interesting comment that from Wrighty, and possibly he should just have put his foot through it, but then if he's being instructed to play out from the back you can see why he feels pressured to do just that, arguably it wasn't the best pass in the world, but Stones should still have dealt with it better, and once he turned inside, and then had the heavy touch, the damage was done unfortunately.

Not sure how anyone can blame Southgate for popes poor distribution.
Do you think Liverpool, city etc... would change tactics if they signed Pope.
No they would expect the player to adapt.
It’s just an unfortunate event, Pope will either be given a second chance or Southgate will look for players that suit his tactics.
