"Quadruple" article featuring Burnley

Article here about Man City's quadruple attempt, but it also mentions that before this season Burnley were third-closest (by date) to achieving it. We get a reasonable mention.

So we can mention this to the superior ones in Preston who always bang on about the original champions etc.

We are almost the original quadruplets

This is an important opportunity in selling the history of our club along with the impending centenary, people around the world do not understand how we have fought against the odds - and how just before football finances changed we were both innovative and strong. It is part of the Story we need to tell

I never realised we reached the League Cup semi final in 60/61. Who knocked us out? And were they two legged semi finals back then?

Lost to Aston Villa, after a 2-leg semi-final plus a replay. Played on 10th April, 26th April, 2nd May. The final wasn't till the following August-September, also over 2 legs.

Think it was even a 2 legged final around then. I think the Wembley finals came later. Haven’t checked but I believe this to be the case.

1960-61 was the season we famously played a reserve side at Chelsea in the league.

What were the line-ups in the League Cup games?

I think the first final at Wembley was in 1967 when 3rd division. QPR came from 0-2 down to beat 1st division West Broml 3-2. Rodney Marsh played and scored for QPR.
