Anyone who doesn't think big wages, big transfer budget, comfy lifestyle had as much to do with Eddie's move south as any family issues.

I am surprised if true, unless its to rebuild his CV. I would have thought he would wait for a PL position to come up-maybe Palace

I thought he did quite well really, brought in some very good players.

Re: Eddie Howe
He did bring in some good players. If he was being employed as chief talent scout, I’d be delighted, but time dulls the memory of how totally bloody frustrating it was to have a defender managing a team with no defensive plan. People remember us flowing through midfield pass and move, but forget how often it was slow and predicable when things were not going our way. At times it was like walking football and always knowing another chance was coming for your opponents. At times we looked like we’d never met before the game started.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Thu Apr 01, 2021 9:38 pmHe wasn't a very good fit for Burnley.

I was kind of hoping he would fill the next big vacancy to buy us longer with SD.
If I was an England fan I would hope he would be the next under 21 manager.

I might be totally wrong, but he doesnt strike me as having a strong enough character to withstand the mania up there. He knows his football, but Glasgow is a brutal regime for managers if its not quite working.

Re: Eddie Howe
It didn't that's true, but the challenge now from Rangers is on a completely different level to what Rodgers faced, don't get me wrong he did a great job at Celtic, but he was fortunate that Rangers were still finding their feet back at the top level in his first couple of seasons, now Steven Gerrard has got Rangers playing really well, and most importantly he's won the league, and thus ended Celtic's domination.
Eddie Howe is an interesting choice by the Celtic board, and I do wonder if that's motivated more by them penny pinching and not wanting to pay compensation to another club for poaching their manager, if EH does travel north he'll need to hit the ground running, neither of the Old Firm clubs are noted for their patience, especially when they see their bitter rivals doing so well.
And he'll face a huge rebuilding job in the summer, this current Celtic team is on the verge of breaking up, Scott Brown has already signed a pre-contract with Aberdeen, and Leigh Griffiths amongst others is rumoured to be leaving. and that's a lot of experience for any dressing room to lose, even before taking into account who else might get picked up by the PL clubs.
What it means for Sean Dyche's future we'll have to wait and see, I thought Palace might have taken the plunge on Eddie this summer, but clearly that's not going to happen now.

Re: Eddie Howe
I honestly do not think that Celtic is the right job for Eddie. He is a good manager but I think that Palace would be a far better fit for him.
Good luck whichever job he finishes up with.

He will get eaten alive by Celtic fans when he bombs as he would.Burnley was a too much for him with our expectations, Celtic fans are brutal and hurting wanting the new Messiah to regain their lost crown. Eddie is not what they need, personally I'd give the job to Scott Brown

I was working in Eastbourne yesterday with somebody from glasgow. She didn't mention that she was going to be the new manager of celtic though and her husband was called Duncan.dermotdermot wrote: ↑Thu Apr 01, 2021 10:28 pmEastbourne is as far away from Bournemouth as Scarborough is from Burnley.

Re: Eddie Howe
I must admit I'm surprised they haven't considered promoting Scott Brown, yes he's not got any managerial experience yet, but he has been at Celtic for 14 years, many of those as captain, and he understands how the club and their fans work, however he's heading north to Aberdeen in a player/coach role so that ship has sailed.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Fri Apr 02, 2021 7:27 amHe will get eaten alive by Celtic fans when he bombs as he would.Burnley was a too much for him with our expectations, Celtic fans are brutal and hurting wanting the new Messiah to regain their lost crown. I sincerely hope EH is prepared for life in the Glasgow goldfish bowl, I know many English pundits and fans think it's easy street up here, and to an extent that's true, but the problem for whoever manages either Old Firm club is 2nd isn't good enough, it's all or nothing with them, witness how many of the Rangers were calling for Gerrard's head only a year ago, now he's being lauded to the heavens, and even a club legend such as Neil Lennon was hounded out by a vocal minority of Celtic fans, despite all he's achieved as a player and manager over the past 20 years, Eddie doesn't even have this close relationship with the Parkhead masses, and assuming he does take the reins he'd better hope he wins his 1st encounter with Rangers, otherwise it' could be a short-lived tenure in Glasgow's East End.
Re: Eddie Howe
It will be interesting to see who his backroom staff are. Will he team up with Jason Tindall again or is that partnership history?

Re: Eddie Howe
Think it would be hard for him to turn down if offered, better than his current job as a coach with soon to be relegated Sheffield United.
Re: Eddie Howe
Glasgow has an airport, Bournemouth has an airport that will make it easier for him if he wants to return home at short notice for visits. I hope he is a great success he never slags us off, brought in some great players and sometimes things just dont work. His style will be like Brendan Rodgers so that will appeal.
Also whilst there he could drop things of at Owen's mummy for him.

Re: Eddie Howe
None of us know exactly why Howe went back to Bournemouth. His mum probably played a part but I assume he also had a young family, so who knows how his wife was coping bringing up their kids on her own for example. He and his family are no doubt in a very different situation now so it wouldn’t be a surprise for him to take such a big job. People really shouldn’t be so dismissive or assuming of other’s personal situations without knowing the facts.

Re: Eddie Howe
The Celtic Job is certainly too big for Howe. He won’t last when the criticism starts unless he win almost every game.
Celtic won’t give him much money to spend either unless they sell Eduoard for big money. Plus their defence is a bomb scare

Re: Eddie Howe
As fact we don’t know that anybody has offered Sean a job whether that’s a right 1 or a wrong 1, Sean is a very good manager at what he does but for some reason a widespread reluctance is present on trying to tempt him away which isn’t a bad thing from our point of view. He’s been linked before away but that’s different from somebody actually been offered a job I think some people think it’s the same thing when it isn’t.
Re: Eddie Howe
It's not a bad role but not one you'd leave a Premier League club for.
Their 70.2m turnover last year and 56m wage bill won't leave a massive amount of money for incoming transfers.
He won't be picking up the cast offs from the big 6 on that budget.

Re: Eddie Howe
No you certainly wouldn't leave a PL club for either of the Old Firm, but of course EH isn't currently contracted to anybody, which I guess makes him an attractive proposition to Celtic, like every club worldwide Celtic have been severely impacted by covid, and they also lost out on any European revenue last season, so you're right there certainly won't be a large war chest for Eddie to recruit with, I can only surmise Celtic hope he'll be able to develop some of their emerging talents such as David Turnbull, but my worry if I was a Celtic fan is how Eddie will shore up their leaky defence, even domestically they've struggled to keep clean sheets this season, and in Europe they've been dreadful at the back.

The reason Newcastle are struggling is partly due to the injury to Wilson, who's been pretty much their only real goal threat

Howe is English and worse still a Southerner a total mismatch like he was at Burnley. The Celtic faithful will be right on his case at the slightest hint of failure, this will be a disaster

How difficult can it be to win the SPL? He's guaranteed 2nd spot before the season starts. If only he could coach his teams to defend!

Re: Eddie Howe
He took Bournemouth from the bottom of the 4th tier to the Premier League within 10 years and even had time to clear out the mess Laws left at our club and sign a list of young players who would play a massive part in our future success.
With that in mind I reckon he fancies his chances of winning a two horse race and Im sure the Celtic fans will be thankful to get such a proven manager with the pull and finances of the SPL these days
