Friendlies (Cricket)
Friendlies (Cricket)
With the cricket season only a couple of weeks away does anyone know any scores from the friendlies which took place today.
According to the Lancashire League website quite a few were due to take place
I know spectators aren’t allowed to attend until the 12th April which is a shame as it’s been a great day weather wise for them albeit slightly cold.
It will also be interesting to see how East Lancs get on this year without a pro and if any other clubs follow suit and when pro’s actual arrive due to the travel restrictions and isolation rules in place.

Padiham ran out easy winners at Accy. So much so Lancs League stalwart Graham Knowles asked on Twitter if Accys paid men had played?

Most games seemed to get snowed off today but Lowerhouse beat Blackpool and Padiham won at Bacup.
Padiham's new professional Jack Edgar followed up last weeks 50 (retired) with a 100 (retired). Looking forward to watching him next Saturday at the Arbories.

Re: Friendlies (Cricket)
Looks sad news for Cricket clubs next week. Only members will be allowed to use club facilities as spectators aren't allowed until mid May.
It was a chance for clubs to boost the coffers before all the pubs were open fully.

As you say a lot of clubs are going to lose out on income they would have expected through the increase in bar sales.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Sat Apr 10, 2021 10:59 pmLooks sad news for Cricket clubs next week. It makes you wonder is it worth the clubs time and effort to provide outside hospitality or would it be easier to keep everything closed until step 3 of the easing of the restrictions
Re: Friendlies (Cricket)
Is this a definite? I saw a statement last week but it seemed to contradict itself? Will be gutting for Colne as it would have been one of the only places in the area open.

These rules are getting confusing and daft now. So does that mean pay on the gate spectators are not allowed and only paid up members? Or does it mean members only in the clubhouse/bar?Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Sat Apr 10, 2021 10:59 pmLooks sad news for Cricket clubs next week. Re: Friendlies (Cricket)
I'm guessing it means they can't serve non members at the bar? Be ridiculous if clubs are expected to turn older people away who just want to sit and watch a bit of cricket.Somethingfishy wrote: ↑Sat Apr 10, 2021 11:19 pmThese rules are getting confusing and daft now. Re: Friendlies (Cricket)
On Friday they were saying you couldn't open bars where live cricket was being played.
Clubs can get round it by offering day membership or monthly to take us to May when Spectators are allowed back.
It could all change again next week but I'm sure your Clubs will comment when they can. Padiham have said decisions will be made by tomorrow.

Chance to get membership up.
But they will have to offer day membership for away fans. They can't charge for spectators as far as I know.

So far as I know, the rules are the same as last summer.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Sat Apr 10, 2021 10:59 pmLooks sad news for Cricket clubs next week. Only members will be allowed to use club facilities as spectators aren't allowed until mid May.

1. A cricket club cannot charge spectators an admission fee to watch the cricket, but the players can play a match without charging admission.
2. A bar (including a cricket club bar) is allowed to be open for serving alcohol to customers sitting outside.
Which means, for many clubs, that the bar will be open and spectators admitted free.

This is the guidance the Greater Manchester League issued to its clubs on Saturday:dsr wrote: ↑Sun Apr 11, 2021 12:07 amSo far as I know, the rules are the same as last summer.

The ECB Have revised their previous guidance for events after April 12 and the new information should be viewed as below
The key points for clubs is that SPECTATORS ARE NOT ALLOWED, this is in accordance with UK Legisation at SI 364 Sch 2 Para 6 however Patrons / Members are allowed to view Cricket Activity whilst taking part in Outdoor Hospitality whilst all guidance is being followed, also a parent / guardian is also allowed to attend for safeguarding purposes.
The full guidance and answers to some questions can be viewed at :

But see the post above from the GM league. Then I spoke to someone from our club last night who confirmed it might have to be members only and Burnley council have hired Covid police to check on pubs and cricket clubs etc...

Re: Friendlies (Cricket)
I believe the regulations are a bit daft tbh as they say people shouldn't be there watching cricket, but yet the cricket clubs can open their bars and serve alcohol outside. To comply exactly all the customers should be sitting with their backs to the game!! Well good luck to the local constabulary policing that one at 20,000 local cricket grounds up and down the country over the next few weeks. We all know what will happen in practice. And if a chap wants to do a few laps of the field with his dog which is perfectly legal, it could be quite funny watching him doing it with a blindfold on!!!

So technically as long as you buy a pint you can watch but an elderly person who just wants to sit and watch a bit of cricket shouldn't be there? Great idea let's lock people away for even longer, like a full winter hasn't been bad enough.

Re: Friendlies (Cricket)
Nothing surprises me anymore with the people in charge.
Before cricket resumed last year they did tests on the balls to see if they could spread Covid. It came back negative, there was no trace on the ball 5 minutes after applying samples.
Yet we have to stop every 6 overs to sanitise it.

The ex Bacup lad said they used to love getting Burnley at home first game as it was too cold for them and they had to have mountain rescue on standby.

I bet they did. For watching, there is a small sheltered area just to the left of the pavilion and up to the old tea room if you are looking from the pitch. And that's about it up there.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Sun Apr 11, 2021 10:30 amThere was a bit of banter on FB yesterday between old cricket friends. Colne Second Team beat Barrowford yesterday. Colne First Team v Morecambe called off today - frozen pitch !! It would seem that next weekend no spectators /admission fees are allowed but the club bar can be open with table service for guests seated outside according to present restrictions. So clubs could lose on admission fees but gain on bar sales if the weather warms up !!

Re: Friendlies (Cricket)
From the ECB: Spectators are NOT currently permitted at Step 2. This does NOT apply to patrons attending the venue for hospitality. At any premises serving alcohol, customers will be required to order, be served and eat/drink while seated (even if no alcohol is ordered). If a hospitality venue does not serve alcohol, then customers will be able to order and collect food and drink from a counter but must consume food and drink while seated at a table. Venues may allow customers to use toilets.

Re: Friendlies (Cricket)
So let me get this right. People are allowed to gather in a park or in a beer garden OUTSIDE but cannot sit on a bench to watch some cricket OUTSIDE unless they are a member and buying a drink OUTSIDE?
Does Covid discriminate so cricket club members are immune but other spectators are easy game? I thought being outside as long as socially distanced was safe and to be encouraged? Sat with close family or even on your own on a bench is as socially distanced as it gets. Not like we are packed in.
Utterly utterly crazy.

You don't have to be a member as far as I understand it, just a patron i.e. someone who wants a drink etc.

I guess having everyone watching inebriated somehow protects against the virus
Be interesting down at Lowerhouse. Everyone packed in front of the clubhouse..all having to be good boys and girls and sitting down. Be even rowdier than usual

Whereas for club members, it's a bit different. Sitting watching the game with a drink in hand is safe; sitting watching the game without a drink, is not.

I agree with you from what I have read. It's down to the meaning of Patron.
My club Padiham have made it members only, but I think clubs are going off the Greater Manchester leagues interpretation which we believe is wrong.
Be interesting to see how other clubs go about it.

You can go to the hospitality section if the club has opened it (Enfield haven't). You can't walk around the pitch for instance.
Lowerhouse have space for the first 300. Padiham have made it members only and have had to stop taking new memberships such has been the demand.
Not sure of Burnleys plans.
