Pieters 8, Wood and Vydra at 7 but the rest on fours and fives for me today... and I think I’m being generous.

Pope 7 (Maybe could have done better on the first goal, but some excellent stops also and very, very unlucky that his brilliant save couldn't prevent their third)

We posed a constant threat offensively, but our midfield and defence was uncharacteristically porous throughout. We copped for it because Saints were at last able to pick from a full strength squad and as they showed early season they are very, very pacey and dangerous and it's injuries to key players which had caused their alarming slide. We couldn't ever cope with that pace imo and even at 2-0 I was fearful. On the other hand Saints defence is no great shakes and I always felt we'd get at least one ourselves second half, so I'm bitterly disappointed to come away with nothing and doubly so after the start we got.

Way off the pace and shown up as the relegation fodder we are . Though to have Ings and Walcott alone would be amazing

Re: Southampton v Burnley - Player Ratings
Pope 7 As a member of the GK union not at fault for any goal
Lowton 3 Looks like the purple patch is over back to not good enough
Tarks 5 Suspect his mind is now elsewhere
Mee 4 bad day
Pieters 8 MOM excellent until injured
JBG 5 din`t see a lot of the ball
Brownhill 7 showed enthusiasm and looked interested
Westwood 4 ineffective, poor by his own standards
McNeil 6 good first 30 mins
Vydra 7 excellent goal, unless injured unforutnate to be hooked
Wood 6 Needs to have more of a presence up front, misses AB doing the rough stuff
Taylor 5 Did ok but not as influential as Pieters
JRod 4 Did JRod touch it
Dyche 3 It was obvious it needed changing well before he did, poor management from him and his team

Not sure you understand how player ratings work.
You rate the player on there match performance. Ben Mee had a shocker today that’s why his rating was lower.

Re: Southampton v Burnley - Player Ratings
When players like Mee who in the main are awesome and set a very high standard drop way below that standard they are marked accordingly.

Re: Southampton v Burnley - Player Ratings
Pope 7 – Not sure if he could have done better with any of the goals really. Some very good saves too.
Lowton 5 – back to Matt’s poor form, unfortunately – his defensive positioning is lousy at times and it cost us.
Tarkowski 6- ok – slid in and over committed for the Ings goal – shaky at times too.
Mee 5 – dreadful mistake for the Ings goal, struggled overall – not often we can say that
Pieters 7 – pity to lose him. He’s been in good form
Gudmundsson 5 – his form was improving – until Sunday – just not good enough
Westwood 5 – started well and quickly faded – has he ever been subbed?
Brownhill 5 – can’t fault effort, but didn’t retain possession – overrun by Saints midfield – should have been replaced by Cork
McNeil 5 – didn’t link up or break through to cause them any problems.
Wood 8 – excellent leading the line, with limited support from midfield – should have had a penalty for the shirt pull
Vydra 7 – caused problems throughout and a very good finish
Taylor 5 – struggled to get into the game as sub – not fully fit?
Another frustrating Burnley performance – some great forward play, but as poor as we have defended for some time. Shouldn’t get nothing from a game with a 2:0 lead. It was pretty obvious that we were being overrun in midfield after half an hour. Westwood retreats and we are left with a huge gap between defence and the forwards. Why SD didn’t look to change midfield, I don’t know. It has happened too many times this season and today we did at least have options on the bench.
It is unlikely that Mee and Tarks will defend worse in the remaining games (I hope). Having said that, we could have got a point. The pressure is really on now. Lose against Newcastle and we are up against it. A win however…
