Today's footie 5/4
Traditional bank holiday card.
Watford were heading to victory at Boro in the early kick off, however the home side have just equalised.
Bournemouth visit Rovers later hoping to maintain their play-off push, come on you Cherries.
Barton's Bristol Rovers face a vital home clash with PO chasing Donny.
Stanley have a long trip to Oxford.
But the game of the day in League has to be Peterborough-Sunderland, 2nd hosting 3rd in a pivotal game you'd imagine in the automatic promotion race.
In League 2 Duffer's Cheltenham visit the bottom side Grimsby.
Newport-Bolton is the stand put fixture in that division, a victory for Newport will put them back in the hunt for an automatic place, and dent the Trotters own promotion hopes.
Not a lot happening in the PL, but Everton-palace, and Wolves-West Ham could be important in the battle for European places.

A must win for Bournemouth you would think.

Not necessarily they have a game in hand on Barnsley & Reading, so dropping points today might not be fatal for them, but given it's getting to the crunch time of the season every game is becoming a must win for different reasons depending on where teams are in the standings.

If both Bournemouth and Reading win today it will mean Blackburn will mathematically be unable to make the top six.

Oh! dear what a shame, they really have collapsed since Christmas haven't they, it wasn't that long ago they were on the fringes of the top 6, and now they are closer to the relegation zone than the play-off berths.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Apr 05, 2021 2:55 pmIf both Bournemouth and Reading win today it will mean Blackburn will mathematically be unable to make the top six.

Re: Today's footie 5/4
Ouch! that really is a poor run of results. And you do wonder how long TM will be retained at that rate, mind you who can they recruit that could do any better given their current squad, Dack is going to miss the majority of next season, and it's likely Armstrong will move on in the summer, so that's their 2 best players and matchwinners not available or gone permanently come the start of next season, unless they can rustle up some rabbits out of hats it could be yet another fruitless campaign for them next season also, and you also have to wonder precisely how long Venky's will keep throwing good money after bad in pursuit of the PL riches.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Apr 05, 2021 3:10 pmSince the beginning of Feb really - played 13, drawn 4, lost 9.

Not a good start for the ex-Clarets, Bristol Rovers and Cheltenham both behind, Stanley ahead, but Phillips on the bench again.

Bristol Rovers have turned it around, and now lead 2-1, could be a big 3 points from them and Joey.
Peterborough leading Sunderland, surely the Mackems aren't going to miss out again are they.
Stanley back in front could they yet gatecrash the play-offs.

2-0 Bournemouth I think we can safely say Rovers season is now well and truly over.

Re: Today's footie 5/4
In theory they could but none of the bottom 3 can seem to string a run together to put enough pressure on the sides above them.
A classic example today is Rotherham crashing 3-0 at home to 2nd bottom Wycombe, and that was a game they really needed to win, yes they have games in hand, but they aren't looking like putting enough points on the board to threaten the likes of Rovers, 11 points is a large margin given the scarcity of games remaining, however I don't think even the most ardent Blackburn fan would claim this season has been their best, and they will no doubt be a serious post-mortem on what has gone wrong for them in the latter part of the campaign.

Can't see Rovers going down but they could give it a good try. They have a tough run in playing mainly the bottom sides who are fighting for their lifes.
Lets hope TM keeps his job, so that if they don't go down this season he can finish the job off next

Re: Today's footie 5/4
The problem for our erstwhile neighbours is if they decide to punt TM, who will succeed him, all the talk has been about Eddie Howe, but he seems destined for Celtic now, and there's not an obvious contender that I can see who'll fare any better given Rovers present squad, they actually had a decent campaign last year, and weren't a million miles off the play-offs, but since the turn of the year they've simply collapsed, and it's only due to their purple patch in the early part of the season that means they'll be safe from the relegation scramble this time anyway, but I don't see an apparent improvement for them next season whoever their manager happens to be by then.Top Claret wrote: ↑Mon Apr 05, 2021 5:21 pmCan't see Rovers going down but they could give it a good try. Re: Today's footie 5/4
Delusions of grandeur from the Jack Walker years, I'm 45 and for most of my lifetime Rovers have been an average 2nd level side, so for them to be an average 2nd level side now that Jack's legacy has been squandered shouldn't be a surprise to anybody, they're just returning to their natural status in the pecking order, as I've no doubt we eventually will again, did they really expect to challenge for the top 6 given the strength and spending power in that league, and their good early season form was flattered by beating a few makeweights, and winning a fair few games when their opponents had been reduced to 10 men, obviously that sort of fortune was never going to be sustained over the course of a long Championship season, and so it's proven with their subsequent fall down the table.Bosscat wrote: ↑Mon Apr 05, 2021 6:45 pmSome cracking comments on here ...

Re: Today's footie 5/4
I wouldn't call finishing 11th last season a good campaign, all though better than the previous when it was 15th.tiger76 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 05, 2021 5:42 pmThe problem for our erstwhile neighbours is if they decide to punt TM, who will succeed him, all the talk has been about Eddie Howe, but he seems destined for Celtic now, and there's not an obvious contender that I can see who'll fare any better given Rovers present squad, they actually had a decent campaign last year, and weren't a million miles off the play-offs, but since the turn of the year they've simply collapsed, and it's only due to their purple patch in the early part of the season that means they'll be safe from the relegation scramble this time anyway, but I don't see an apparent improvement for them next season whoever their manager happens to be by then.
If the Venkys don't sack TM this summer they would be showing lack of ambition and interest, that could finally mean the writing on the wall for Rovers
Re: Today's footie 5/4
Norwich and Watford looking odds on for promotion and Bournemouth right in form for the play offs. Have the 3 relegated teams ever come straight back up to the Premier League previously?

Surprisingly no although there's been several close calls when all 3 came close, more info here http://direct.playmakerstats.com/news.php?id=318598
I do agree it'll take a bizarre turn of events to thwart Norwich and Watford making an immediate return, so the question is can Bournemouth complete the trio, I'd say they've got a fair shout in the play-offs should they manage to get that far.

£200 million pounds in debt and the owners appear to be not interested, this surly can't go on much longer. The Venkys are gradually pulling the plug. Star striker leaving in the summer, contracts not offered to their young stars and asset stripping with the land sale at Brockhall.
I will give the Venkys 2 years maximum before they finally pull the plug. Rovers will end up like Bolton and Wigan playing their football in the lower leagues

Re: Today's footie 5/4
Weird one that. Team spinning for a play-off spot v team at the bottom - losing 5-0. I wonder what the odds on that were?
From the stats it looks like one of those days for Owls where everything goes in.
Shots: Wednesday 12, Bluebirds 17
On target: 6 , 3
Corners 4, 7
Jordan Rhodes one of the scorers.

Wow they really are not smelling the coffee are they. Assets being sold, players on loan... and they expect to land Hughes?
They really need to cut the arrogance and start backing the club, or it might be us taking the **** at their Orient.

They've never really recovered since losing Jimenez, yes he's going to be a big miss, but you have to deal with injuries over the course of the season.Top Claret wrote: ↑Mon Apr 05, 2021 9:33 pmPoor side or Wolves and it would not surprise me if we finished above them
And yes we have every chance of finishing above them if we can get back on our best form again.
I I'm curious how long Nuno will get if their results don't show major improvement over the rest of the season, and at the start of next season, they've regressed badly over the last few months, after a couple of impressive PL campaigns, and a decent EL run to boot.
