Hmm! Lancs let that slip somewhat, and Sussex will be the happier at the close, just 9 runs needed for a 3rd batting bonus point, and you wouldn't have thought that in mid-afternoon. The old adage catches win matches coming true here.

7 bowlers utilised by Lancashire, Bailey as usual proving the best of them.

Elsewhere centuries for Sam Robson and James Vince will have caught the England selector's eyes.

Seven years since Robson got a brief run in the team. Time flies.

You know it's early in the season when Glamorgan get to 300+ in the first innings - although the specialist batsmen almost all failed much like sussex's

50 partnership for Davies/Vilas and a much needed stand for the Red Rose, hopefully this pair can now go on and post a decent total.

132-4.....Davies gone. We do look a little light with Bohannon and Croft at three & four. Hopefully this new lad Wells might add a bit more steel to our early order.

206-4 at tea, Vilas closing in on a ton, good recovery this by Lancs.

Meanwhile as for Yorkshire, ouch! 178-9 trailing Glamorgan by 150 runs, not a great start to the campaign for them.

Great knock from the skip, century stand now as well.

As for our friends from the other side of the Pennines, they were bundled out for 193, although they do have an early wicket in Glamorgan's 2nd innings, they still have a deficit of 140, and face an uphill task to rescue that game.

Double centuries for James Vince and Tom Westley elsewhere. I suppose that's one way of getting noticed by the England selectors.

Jones gone for 58, but the great dane still there on 120, and Lancs rapidly closing in on a useful 1st innings lead.

There's definitely a player in there, but he's in danger of becoming this generations Mark Ramprakash, he looks fantastic for an hour, and then inexplicably gets himself out when set, and given the stiff competition for an England batting slot these days, if he is given another chance he'll have to grasp it with both hands, and put a big score on the board.

I agree Tiger, good analogy with Ramps. He played well in Aussie a couple of years ago, hopefully he can eliminate those loose shots outside the off stump. Good player to watch.... 288-5....skipper still rolling on

339-5 at the close lead of 38, Vilas unbeaten on 158 and being aby supported by young Wood stand already worth 82, and it's put Lancashire in prime position to start the season in style.

And it's worth noting this is a Lancashire side minus Jimmy and Liam Livingstone, both of whom would greatly strengthen the bowling and the batting.

Glamorgan building a nice lead over Yorkshire despite losing a few early wickets, 205 ahead with 6 2nd innings wickets remaining, they should be looking to set their hosts a formidable chase in the 4th innings

The evergreen Darren Stevens still churning out the centuries, he turns 45 in a few weeks, but he's still more than capable at this level.

Well! TBF Davies, Jones & Wood have also made valuable contributions with the bat in support of the skipper, but I do agree the top order is still a worry.

I truly hope James Vince makes it at international level such a fantastic Batsman to watch, a great start let’s hope he can kick on from an England perspective that is. I wonder where he would slot in though 3 or 5 probably.

For my money Vince would be ideal rolling in at 5/6, Buttler at 7 and then the four bowlers

Well he's never going to bat at 5, as that's where a certain Ben Stokes sits, and Ollie Pope is looking the part at 6, so unless there's an opening due to injury or loss of form, I'm struggling to see how Vince forces his way into the England side, it's a hard team to get into these days due to the strength in depth throughout the country, a far cry from the 1990's when the XI pretty much picked itself, a nice problem for the England selector's to have though ahead of an Ashes tour.

Hope this inclement weather clears Lancs have a great chance of wrapping up victory in 3 days if it does.

Yorkshire chasing leather this morning in Leeds, Glamorgan lead by nearly 300 now, big partnership between Root and Cooke, after Glamorgan were reduced to 29-4 yesterday.

He might but England seem determined to allow Burns, Crawley & Sibley time to build their test careers, and Crawley has certainly shown enough to suggest he's a test player for many years to come, the other 2 have made usual runs for England against some top quality attacks, none more so than the last Ashes series, the problem as I see it is can both Burns and Sibley be accommodated in the top 3, yes they score runs more often than not, but they score them at a really slow rate, now it's fine having one of your top 3 playing the anchor role, but if you have 2 performing the same function, even if you aren't losing wickets you aren't going anywhere in the game, and eventually the best bowlers will get you out, and this then heaps the pressure on Root and Stokes to dig England out of a hole on far too many occasions.

I don't know what the answer to England's number 3 position is, but I do know it's not Bairstow, he simply hasn't got the defensive technique equipped to play the long test innings such a role requires, this was shown in India, how many times did he get clean bowled, and it's not a new issue for him in the longer format, it's been happening for a good few years now, great white ball cricketer, but just not suited to what a test match needs at the top of the order.

Couple of Lancs wickets falling, but Vilas is still there. lead nearly 60 now, anything over 100 should be useful, we don't want to be chasing too many 4th innings.

Snow coming to Yorkshire's rescue at Headingley, remind me again it is BST isn't it?
