NowTv

Post by Dinks » Fri Apr 09, 2021 5:36 pm

Just paid thirty odd quid to watch the Masters, how do Sky get away with selling this product the picture is unwatchable and I went on a trouble shooting site and was told your best solution is to pay an extra 3 quid for something called Boost, but it might not work, you couldn't make it up.
Anyone else had problems

Not with sport but we have had the movie pass for quite a while. We cancelled it last week as they're just re-hashing old movies. It's one thing promising new added movies but they're all old movies. That Boost thing makes no difference. It actually made viewing worse btw!

I signed up to an offer for Now TV last week, to watch Burnley’s games that are on a Sky, plus The Masters. I’m using Virgin with the WiFi coming from the TP-Link Mesh system, that was discussed on here a couple of months ago. The picture is excellent on my Sony smart TV.

I've had Now TV for ages and it's great. It does depend upon the strength of your broadband signal though. I also pay £3pm for Boost and it definitely improved the picture to HD.

Now TV is crap quality at 720p and poor quality if you pay the boost to 1080p.

We live in a digital era where games are shot in 4k yet you can only get the original quality stream if you pay for a traditional satellite service.

720p is decades old technology. Sky really are robdogs.

Pay £25/month since Sept for NOW tv sport - all sport. I had the £3 boost in June/July, but it's not necessary on BT box.

I get poor reception for ITV and C4 thrust aerial on same set some times of the day or weather conditions.

My booklet have UHD. FHD and now FHD HEVC.
What the last one?

Just looking down the BT channels, there is
BT Sports ESPN FHD HEVC

Must be a very decorated channel!

HEVC is just a modern compression method used by streaming services and IPTV like the BT sport channels. It means they can deliver you the same crappy quality stream but do it at less cost to them.

There's no 4k now TV. With the 4k BT box it will upscale everything to 4k on a 4k TV but it has nothing to do with the source quality.

There's no such thing as 'not needing the boost because you have a BT box' you'll still get 720p on sky channels instead of 1080p the same as the now TV service.

If you have a 4k TV poorer material will also look quite a bit worse, take something poor quality and blow it up x8/4x instead of x2 or x1 and of course the picture is softer. The quality they give at 720p and 1080p is outdated, deliberately so they can keep Sky UHD behind their massive paywall.

We live in an era now where 8k is becoming more popular and broadcasters still make it hard and costly to even get 4k. This is very different from the HD times when broadcasters caught up with TV tech and you could enjoy native content no problem.

The IPTV service that you are using may stream UHD channels, but the stream you are viewing is nowhere near that quality.

Well the stubble, freckles and skin marks must be a pigment of my imagination!

My Samsung 4k upscales. Perhaps that's it.
