Absolute quality and the music passes that age old test in that it hasn't dated and still sounds brilliant all these years later.

And what better way could they have launched Radio 1...that's a fantastic song.Bosscat wrote: ↑Sun Apr 11, 2021 8:40 amJeff Lynne, Bev Bevan Roy Wood ... 1st song ever played on Radio 1 by Tony Blackburn ...

I wonder what substance they were on when they wrote that song and recorded that video

It's funny, these are the two bands that I avoid at all costs! I just don't get it.mill hill claret wrote: ↑Sat Apr 10, 2021 10:22 pmI can honestly say my taste is impeccable....Queen and E L O ....doesn't get much better

Re: E L O
I saw them at the O2 a few years back. Superb live. The one thing that struck me is the impression that Jeff is not your natural charismatic front man. He came across as rather uncomfortable in front of such a large crowd, to the point he introduced 1 member of his band then let him do the rest.
Great back catalogue delivered flawlessly by top quality musicians. Thanks to Chris Evan's having him on his R2 show years back and convincing him there was an appetite for him performing live again.

Re: E L O
In the early 80’s drove to the NEC in my mini, snowing like hell. Got there (front wheel drive,, also got me and my mate to the World Cup in 82) but concert delayed by about an hour, place half full.......they did the concert but towards the end announced “yer all going nowhere looking outside, so should we just keep playing?!”........
Got back about 5 in the morning, they were bloody brilliant.

You did earlier in the thread... i'm merely replying (to Hipper also). I said one of your choices do it for me... you quoted me with the quizzical emoji. Nothing sinister here pal....just confirming I like ELO but not Queen.

Tell you what, to even it all out, I like Stiff Little Fingers, Buzzcocks, and the clash, amongst others.... say something not very nice about one of them and I won't get precious about it, we'll just call it quits. Whaddaya say?
