Can’t see 2 more goals in us for a win. Oh well we can bring game changers on from the bench.....

Re: Burnley v Newcastle - Match Day Thread
What a difference it makes to have one or two good options on the bench.
Re: Saint maximum
Newcastle were utterly abysmal before he came on. Now they look fantastic. He must be some player.
Re: Burnley v Newcastle - Match Day Thread
Poor defensively but we’ve lacked the quality to capitalise on being on top and this against a team that’s very poor defensively AND with missing arguably their best defender.
Re: Burnley v Newcastle - Match Day Thread
We should of been 2 or 3 goals up before they got their first
Re: Burnley v Newcastle - Match Day Thread
Problem is our bench, we have nobody who can come on and change things like Newcastle have with Wilson and Saint Maxim. We desperately need to improve our overall squad in the summer.Conroysleftfoot wrote: ↑Sun Apr 11, 2021 1:28 pmWe have played well today, hope we can get back into this.

Good job we have so many points already on the board that any of the bottom 3 just can’t catch us.

Should have had this wrapped up first half in the knowledge they could bring those 2 on........didn’t capitalise on a good first half, then bosh.

Tarkowski mugged off for the second week running.
Re: Burnley v Newcastle - Match Day Thread
I don’t like dirty play but the right thing to do when he came on was to go through him with a strong challenge and risk s yellow card. Make him think twice about taking you on again.

We need to get back on the front foot. Scared to death of front two’s pace, but we are suddenly second to 50/50’s. An equaliser and Newcastle could cave again. We need to see a bit of calmness, we are the better team

Re: Saint maximum
We do struggle with pace and power. A shame because we've played alright today. Not suggesting it would have made a difference to their second goal but I'd get Cork on.

Shelvey's through ball to StMaxim left Brownhill and Westwood both trailing 15 yards behind play and he went on to finish it off. No cover from midfield at all.

Can we just drop brownhill indefinitely, he is just simply not good enough.

No issue really. One more win (that should have come today) will do it. A massive rebuilding job (that we can’t afford) means relegation at the end of next season.
Re: Burnley v Newcastle - Match Day Thread
That's football, as a central defender you can't rely on your midfield doing all the defensive work all of the time, that's the difference between our system and expansive higher level football. The reason Tarkowski doesn't play for a top 4 club and England.Vino blanco wrote: ↑Sun Apr 11, 2021 1:32 pmShelvey's through ball to StMaxim left Brownhill and Westwood both trailing 15 yards behind play and he went on to finish it off. Yes they’re both terrible when there is more than 1 pacy player against themQuickenthetempo wrote: ↑Sun Apr 11, 2021 1:27 pmMee and Tarky have been terrible positionly for the goals.
Just like against Southampton
Just retreat, the moment the opposition get the ball rather than attacking it
St Maximan got that on the half way but all he had to do was one little shoulder drop and change of direction against a player running backwards so unable to adjust then a free sight of goal

Brownhill puts a shift in but that isn't good enough at this level, l he is so poor on the ball

Somehow I think the next goal will be from Newcastle, hope I’m wrong.

We've totally dominated this game, but Newcastle have defended their 6 yard box well. The inevitability of the sub's impact was annoying to see unfold. You just knew we wouldn't deal with him

Re: Burnley v Newcastle - Match Day Thread
Final ball has been poor today. So many crosses, corners, free kicks that have presented no real gilt edged opportunities to our strikers, bar the one which flicked up and was almost an own goal.
Lots of play but nothing of real note has been created or asked of Dubravka.

Just like with Saints last week, once it goes end to end there's only going to be one winner.

Brownhill the problem? I feel it's Westwood. Aimless long balls. Can't find a man in set pieces. No tackles. Slow.
Re: Burnley v Newcastle - Match Day Thread
We are 4 rimes better than them but they have one match-winning player.
Re: Burnley v Newcastle - Match Day Thread
Our 50 million pound defender ... swanning around. Hands in pockets. Flip flops on.
Id advise him to sign a new contract... because on these performances he wont be going anywhere

Plan A - Long balls
Plan B - More long balls
Against a team with 3 centre halves.
We're not going to score unless we can get to the byline and whip in some good crosses.

Re: Burnley v Newcastle - Match Day Thread
Central midfield is certainly the big problem. I feel sorry for them because they’re outnumbered, but they’ve been incredibly poor in the second half.
Re: Burnley v Newcastle - Match Day Thread
We need to stop floating it in, they deal with that all day. Need it to feet and take a shot

That’s ******** - people are picking up on what they believe to be a problem area or player not performing. Give over jumping on the ‘must have a scapegoat’ nonsensical bandwagon and give an opinion on what you think the issue is, instead of digging out other people ALL the time.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 11, 2021 1:38 pmIt will always be Brownhill, he's the new scapegoat regardless of how everyone else is playing.

Lots of possession here but we have not reacted at all to the goals in a positive way.

Very one dimensional and little in the way of movement to creat opportunities.jedi_master wrote: ↑Sun Apr 11, 2021 1:41 pmLots of possession here but we have not reacted at all to the goals in a positive way.

Taken from the above.
Indirect free kick
An indirect free kick is awarded if a player:
Plays in a dangerous manner
Assuming Tarky's offence was construed as 'Dangeroue play' the sanction is an Indirect free kick, therefore no penalty.

Re: Saint maximum
For all the possession, pressure, crosses, corners we've offered very little quality and 2 moments of quality from a good player have destroyed us. Another hideous bench in terms of attacking options is leaving us in the position of hoping something drops for us..
