ECB losing the plot.

Post by Claretincraven » Sun Apr 11, 2021 7:14 pm

Having thrown local league Clubs a swerve ball by suddenly changing their stance on spectators, the latest suggestion from the ECB is that next Saturday recreational cricket games are suspended between 3pm and 4pm as a mark of respect for the Duke of Edinburgh. Just what players do for an hour whist pavilions are closed, or how games are completed given the relatively short day length isn’t explained. Will be interesting to see how many Leagues implement this given it is the opening week of the season, which is probably irrelevant but I do wonder about the decision making process.

It's absolute bonkers.

But this is only a suggestion. It will be the leagues fault if they implement it.

What a bonkers suggestion. Does a minute or two’s silence not suffice?

It depends how strongly you feel about something, I know a few people when discovering the news last Friday slapped holiday request forms in for this week’s duration in order to mourn, I think some people are seriously underestimating the different levels of grief people are suffering, 1 person might not really give a monkeys but another person will be completely devastated about the death.

Do you honestly know of multiple people who have booked a week off to mourn? Sounds like you’ve made that up.

Yes some people are just for 1 week it wasn’t plural, I was upset but I didn’t go to that extent, some people aren’t bothered but some people are very upset & need time to accept & process he’s no longer with us.

A “few” I said not multiple, another poster said weeks when I said “this weeks duration” why do people feel the need to exaggerate what’s being stated when it’s clear!

I’m not splitting hairs, 3 people within my workplace are off next week mourning the death & 1 person left work early Friday upset, I’m not sure if he’s back in tomorrow if he isn’t that’s 4.

He was alive for 99 years, people 40+ are more affected because they grew up really when he was in better health, the younger generation aren’t really bothered or less bothered, I’m assuming you are pre 30s to have that kind of attitude.

Not at all, it’s a serious respectful subject, you can pretend people aren’t bothered or you can accept the truth that the death as knocked some people for 6, I’m not bothered what you believe or disbelieve, good evening.

Everyone should be allowed to mourn if they wish but forced mourning isn’t necessary.

Back on topic of the ECB, they are increasingly clueless when it comes to club cricket. They are more of an hindrance than a help.

I'm not anti royal, if anything I'm probably pro royal, but if the death of a 99 year old man who has been in and out of hospital for the last few years has 'knocked people for six' then they need knocking on the head with the sense hammer.

The Greater Manchester league and Bolton league have come out and said they will be having a 2 minute silence at 3pm as a mark of respect.

I expect all other leagues to follow suit now.

Took one morning off work, four hours, when my dog died when I was about 20 because the thing was my best friend for about fourteen years and I also hated that job and didn't care if I was fired anyway. Four hours. Back for the afternoon.

Jakub's neurotic mind-splurges are probably the only thing keeping me coming back to this site.

Who on earth can possibly be that upset by the death of an old chap that died peacefully whom they probably never met.
Its one of the craziest things I've heard. 😳

Or is it an excuse to get in the boozer this wk.

Now I'm one all for paying respects to the man and have been disgusted by some of the vile comments on SM but having a week off to mourn? That is over the top behaviour. Ridiculous. I bet these people wouldn't do the same if their own grandparents died. Some people seem to lose all sense of proportion.
2 minutes is enough and the man himself wouldn't want this over the top reaction either.

So many questions:
Where does Jakub work?
What do you do if you have a week off to mourn, is it sackcloth and ashes and self-flagellation or do they have a Prince Phillip highlights video cued up just in case?
How many of these mourners will be mourning in beer gardens?
Did these people really take a week off to mourn or did they just book off a week at Easter?
