Manager sacked with club in play off positions
I never fail to be staggered by some managerial sackings but yesterday Forest Green Rovers, currently in the League Two play off positions, sacked manager Mark Cooper. Owner Dale Vince said: "“This decision we’ve made today is about giving ourselves the best chance of securing promotion with six games left." Under-18 coach Jimmy Ball will be in charge for the rest of the season.
It might well work, they might go up but they've reacted to a bad month with just one point from six games.

It’s been more than a bad month.
They’ve got 11 points from the past 12 games.

Smacks of 'must go up or the finances will bust'.

Which confirms it's been a bad month. One point from six games in the last month means they did get 10 points from the previous six games which is more than good enough.Bordeauxclaret wrote: ↑Mon Apr 12, 2021 10:10 amIt’s been more than a bad month.

Terrible run for a good while, likely to drop out of the play offs tomorrow, conceding a bucket load and by all accounts serving up some dreadful stuff.
No surprise at all.

My company is one of the sponsors of FGR.
Cooper has been given plenty of time. The last few seasons have gone the same way, start off well then the second half of the season fall away.
He also had lots of falling out with fans and wasn't well-liked. Some interesting stuff coming out on Twitter today from people who worked with him in the past.
FGR is a very well-run club and the owner has supported him. He was out of contract at the end of the season and I just think the bad run has no sign of stopping. It's not a case of promotion or bust, but they are ambitious and want to be in League 1 or the Championship by the time the new stadium is built.

Yeah i'm not surprised at all, they've dropped like a stone and been on a horrible run for a long while. Yes, I keep betting on them.

Have they stopped playing for him because of the comment higher up? He is OOC at season end. Players like certainty.

Re: Manager sacked with club in play off positions
Its easy for the media and supporters from other clubs to have an opinion in support of the sacked manager when they aren't involved.
I am sure the sacking is in the best interest of FGR as it was when the manager of the title winning Leicester side got sacked

I believe it has nothing to do with form, after the defeat on Saturday he was caught eating a cheeseburgerClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Apr 12, 2021 10:04 amI never fail to be staggered by some managerial sackings but yesterday Forest Green Rovers, currently in the League Two play off positions, sacked manager Mark Cooper. I was on the phone to a friend of mine last night when I heard about it and he said he'd probably been caught eating a meat pie.claretburns wrote: ↑Mon Apr 12, 2021 11:26 amI believe it has nothing to do with form, after the defeat on Saturday he was caught eating a cheeseburger

Funnily enough I did wonder whether them running out of steam might be to do with their diet! But then some of the best athletes in the world are vegan so I'm not sure it holds water.

File with Wilder and Yems at Crawley for me. Never liked his snotty attitude to opponents. Empty stadiums have enabled people to hear his horrid touchline manner during games for example in the recent defeat at Stevenage viewed on iFollow.
As others have said I don't believe his sacking is purely from recent results bad as they have been, more likely a personality fall out behind it.

I don’t like them purely because I cannot stand their kit. I think they are a bit OTT with the vegan thing but cannot say it bothers me particularly... it’s just that kit.

Went there to a night match once and had fish&chips for tea. You could have launched a supertanker on the grease! No blkoody wonder they are vegans!
