Wow! Paul Cook is fuming here...doubt that Ipswich Town’s dressing room or training ground will be happy places for the next few days!

"Major surgery required" I'm Stan said exactly the same thing in his early days at Burnley.

Brilliant interview, I'd be delighted hearing that if I was an Ipswich fan

He said similar when he went in at Portsmouth - that's how he is, heart on sleeve.

Interesting things going on at Ipswich post the recent takeover, it has just been confirmed that they are taking the Chief Exec from Bristol City - a club that has received quite a bit of investment in recent years

Strange way of doing things.

If a new man come in here and couldn't get a win, so started blaming the players and told us the side needed major surgery.
Then the fans would likely turn on the new manager, as we would think the wrong man had been appointed to get the best out of the team.

I'd seen they'd appointed a new CEO, didn't know he'd left Bristol City to join them.

I think it is safe to say that probably all Ipswich fans know the squad needs major work to it.

The view of many of the local tractor boys and girls interviewed recently on BBC Suffolk was that Lambert had to go and the whole team needed to be turfed out!! Although many didn't like Lambert I think that there is a recognition that there's no quality to work with there at the moment. I think Cooky is saying as much.

A lot of the players not rated were brought in by Paul Hurst apparently who they very quickly got rid of.

We can look back with hindsight at that moment as one of the pivotal decisions that got us where we are today.

Stan raised standards immeasurably during his time at the club and it needed treading on a few toes. Sometimes you need somebody to be frank and forthright.

None of us disagreed with Stan's assessment after that performance and were pleased and encouraged that something was being done; I suspect the Ipswich fans will be the same.

You have to wonder whether Lambert would've said the same thing if he'd had the benefit of the new owners perhaps loosening the purse strings. He must've known he wasn't working with as good a group as he would've liked.

Cookie will end up as our manager one day
He is sincere and totally committed to getting Ipswich back up.Given backing and time he will.East Anglia has some decent non league sides and this can only help him on his quest. As we know it's also near Holland so the loan market beckons.

I bloody hope not.

He’s 54, five years older than Dyche, and has never managed higher than the Championship relegation zone and is at his seventh club.

Things would have to go wrong very quickly if he were to become our manager.

So what? He used to play for Burnley. When has giving the job to someone because they’re an ex-player ever not worked out for us?

What are you basing that on? He’s 54, been managing for 15 years and peaked by getting Wigan into the Championship.

3 or 4 in from Ajax and a couple from PSV should see them move up the league.

He should definitely manage us!
He should never manage us!

Both are careless positions to take.

He should be considered a good candidate if ever he applies or expresses an interest. No more, no less.
He's done fairly well at all clubs he's been at and seems to leave them in a better position than he found them. That's an encouraging sign.
He's got a habit of resigning though and doesn't seem to stick around long.

We've generally done well over the years by hiring managers on sound principles. We need to continue on that basis.
