Really interesting, thank you for sharing. Hats off Mike for the huge amount of research and effort to produce these films.

I’ve never seen the coloured film and photos from the 1914 cup final before. Where did they come from?

Superb stuff. Only Burnley could have a European friendly against Celtic that ended in a pitch invasion and 7 weeks later the great war started!! It was all our fault!!
Super little film. Barnsley to Burnley !! Tommy a tragic hero!!

Tommy Boyle was just another name for many of us I'm sure, albeit one who lifted the Cup and League trophies. He was as you say our greatest ever player, his interrupted career and the years that followed show how easy modern life is by comparison.

I really enjoyed the documentaries to compliment your book, thank you Mike for your excellent research work and for bringing Tommy Boyle into our lives.

The team photo colorisations were done by Ryehill and they had the 1914 Cup team and 1921 League team shots on their website - the owner is a big Sunderland fan. http://ryehillfootball.co.uk
Thank you for all the nice feedback today on here and also on Facebook. Much appreciated. The Boyle era at Burnley is one that fascinates me.
The period just before and after WW1. Loved doing the research on that.

Really enjoyed watching that... think it is going on the big tele later. Thanks for all your hard work researching it Mike. The book has been on my shopping list since I heard about it... just waiting for post summer when my reading can return to a pleasure activity (I’m in Laos 1961, with JFK at the height of the Cold War at the moment, but I love ferreting archives so all good fun)

Thanks Mike

A brilliant read and an equally brilliant watch. Boyle was an absolute club legend. Thank you for sharing his story.

Watched it on the big screen. Great stuff and ultimately very sad. I could only compare today’s overpaid players to the life of Tommy Boyle. Clearly a great leader and tough man. Has to be in the top 3 of Burnley FC heroes of all time. To spend his last year’s incarcerated in Whittingham is a sad reflection of how life was in the ‘good old days ‘

Really enjoyed that. Just shows how football has changed over the years and not always for the better. Any Claret captain who has lifted both the FA Cup and league Championship cups has got to be up there with the greats. I didn't realize he had such a sad end to his life, what a player and man he must have been.

Someone who none of us saw play or ever met and yet so iconic in the history of our club. Obviously a fantastic character, leader and player and yet like so many of that era, once the pro deals and adulation faded they had nothing left and fell on very hard times. So sad and even sadder that we aren't in a position to make it clear to him what his tenure and his legacy means to us.
