Tonight's footy 27/4

Post by tiger76 » Tue Apr 27, 2021 6:01 pm

Obviously the Real-Chelsea clash will hog up the headlines, but there is plenty of other action taking place this evening.

Brentford-Rotherham in the Champ for one, not much for Brentford to play for now, but for the Millers it's a huge game, win and they'll be breathing down Derby's necks, and still have a game in hand.

Plenty of games in leagues 1 and 2 as well that could settle promotion and relegation issues.

I think Rotherham have missed out on a wonderful opportunity to get out of trouble. I've seen some of their more recent 'games in hand' and they've made a mess of them. Chasing three points when one that they already had wasn't deemed sufficient. They were very unfortunate last week against Barnsley when the only goal of the game shouldn't have stood. Still a nervy time for Sheffield Wed. and Derby though.

Cheltenham can confirm promotion tonight if they take a point off Carlisle United. Duff seems to have done a great job there, automatic promotion after the disappointment of losing out in the play offs last season.

A real stand out player for us, a massive part of the transformation from Championship also rans to an established Premier League side.

There was a little tear in my eye on the last day at the Valley. Really great to see him doing so well.

There was always something about Duff's demeanour on and off the pitch that suggested he'd be a success in management, and it's great too see him enjoying his time at Cheltenham, indeed you do have to wonder just how long they'll be able to keep hold of him, although his long term ties to the club could play a part in him sticking around for a few years at least and continuing to learn the ropes of management.

Stanley ahead early on, Phillips starts again for them, he finally seems to be getting an extended run in their 1st XI now.

Newport 3-0 up on Scunthorpe at HT and cementing their play-off place as it stands.

Barrow, with Bobby Thomas in a back 3, doing really well now.
Clear of the drop.

Stanley 2-0 at HT, Rochdale ahead at AFC Wimbledon, that could yet prove to be a massive goal for them.

Cheltenham trailing at the break in terms of the promotion race it shouldn't matter given their vastly superior GD, but it could have a major impact on the title.

Rochdale are certainly putting up a real fight back end. They have got far closer already than I thought they could... sort of willing them on now.

Chelsea should be 2 up. Werner missed easiest chance ever. Just gone 1 up. Would have been 3 if Wood had been playing

Chelsea dominating. What a sitter that was for Werner who’s looking like a bit of a donkey.

Where’s this game being played? It doesn’t look like the Bernabeu.

A very expensive donkey as well, and that miss could be costly because RM have gone straight up the other end and equalised as often happens after a bad miss.

His miss was at 0-0 so the equaliser came quite some time after. But yes, he’s certainly not living up to his price tag.

No it's being hosted on Real's training ground, hardly what you'd expect for a CL semi-final, but that's the strange times we're living in, and the Bernabeu is undergoing reconstruction.

Oh right just flicking the updates in every so often well watching a TV show, but either way you can't afford to miss these type of chances in these games, and for his hefty price tag he's not exactly living up to his billing is he.

They're 3-2 up in the dying minutes, and if they can hold on it'll make it much more interesting at the bottom.

His running off the ball has also been really poor and his team mates don’t seem to trust him.

Lack of confidence maybe, he's clearly not become a bad player overnight, but you often see strikers go into their shell when they haven't scored in a while, he did play a big part in their goal in the semi-final against CIty, and you'd have thought that might have been the catalyst for his form to improve but seemingly not.

Sunderland lose at home to donkey lashers. Going into play-offs with no confidence at all. The Johnson boost didn’t last long.

Accy equalise with og, 90+5

Crazy finish at Accy an injury time goal for both sides, and a 95th minute leveller for Stanley.

An even crazier finish at the Rochdale game a 97th minute leveller for AFC Wimbledon, and that might be curtains for Rochdale's brave bid to survive.

Anyone else listen to radio lancs accie v Pompey!!
Classic local radio covering a really exciting match with the appalling Bobby madely refereeing!!
Very funny stuff with back of press box blowing away and the famous Pompey bell ringer standing just outside the ground driving everyone mad.

Big win for Blackpool that should just about guarantee their own play off place, they are the ones to watch I think their form since around Christmas has been outstanding.

I said the other day on another thread I don't think this Sunderland squad can cope with the pressure, and they really can't afford yet another play off failure, so the pressure is immense on them to perform, and get back to the Championship.

Think tonight was the bridge too far for Rochdale... 2-0 to 2-2 then pulled back to 3-3 way onto added on time... they will feel gutted tonight.

A win tonight and they'd have been within touching distance of Wigan and Wimbledon, but that last gasp goal has probably done for them I'm afraid.

Given the form table it was Wimbledon tonight... Wigan are on fire of late... Plymouth must be glad to see the finish line... another couple of games and they would have been sweating.
