Hermes phishing scam ...
Received a scam E-mail today, looked very realistic, £2.11 charge for a 3rd delivery attempt ... However ..
1) Charge for Re-delivery was £1.11 but VAT was £1
2) When you go to the screen, they ask for your address and then " Mother's maiden name " ???
3) When you press on " accept our terms and conditions ", nothing happens ..
Just checked with Hermes, they never, ever ask for a fee to re-deliver ...
Be careful out there folks !

Some of these emails can look so realistic. My advice is never to click on a link in an email unless you are 100% sure.

They are sending text messages out in the name of DHL, trying to get you to download some malware, just delete and ignore.

Had 2 separate texts appearing to be from Royal Mail.
Says first attempt to deliver parcel failed so a surcharge is needed.
Asks for bank details. Looks very authentic. Worrying thing is that someone somewhere has access to information that certain people are having parcels delivered to them at certain times. The text comes through at the appropriate time as the delivery is expected.

Re: Hermes phishing scam ...
Treat all unsolicited texts and e-mails as a scam. Some genuine stuff may be lost but you won't get scammed.
In this day and age, if the scammers can come up with a way of getting to you, surely the authorities will have a way to get to the scammers and shut them down !

Send texts to 7726 (spells spam on a standard phone keypad)
E-mails to NFIBPhishing@city-of-london.pnn.police.uk ... if they don't get details they cannot do anything about them...
As Ralph above says "treat wverything as a scam or spam and you will not go far wrong... 1st rule do not open attachments etc

I truly despise these kind of people who try and defraud you.

I've just this minute received that text message from Royal Mail. And that's the third one that I've received during the last 18 months even though I have been living in continuous lockdown here in the Philippines!

The fact you weren't expecting a delivery should have given it away...

Another thing to give away the “Royal Mail” scam is how would they have your phone number?

Re: Hermes phishing scam ...
The thing is Ringo, they almost certainly don't know you're due a delivery. They simply send out thousands and thousands of scam texts and they know that due to the way we're increasingly shopping these days at least some of those targets will be expecting parcels that day. Then from there a tiny number of those people may click on the dodgy link and really it only takes one or two of those to actually fall fully for the scam and the buggers are turning a profit.RingoMcCartney wrote: ↑Sat May 01, 2021 1:14 pmHad 2 separate texts appearing to be from Royal Mail.

Scammers don’t know this information, they just presume we’ll fall for it because we are expecting deliveries all the time.RingoMcCartney wrote: ↑Sat May 01, 2021 1:14 pmWorrying thing is that someone somewhere has access to information that certain people are having parcels delivered to them at certain times. Re: Hermes phishing scam ...
Royal Mail will never contact you by text.
Hermes - if you're really expecting something and you're not in they'll also post a card through the door like Royal Mail.
It should be common knowledge, but sadly it isn't.
Same with the phone calls from a mobile number and its an automated voice making threats from HMRC/National insurance number and if you click 1 you get connected to a bloke from India/Pakistan who has none of your personal details to hand but goes straight into a script about how they're monitoring your accounts and if you don't pay x amount they'll either cancel your national insurance number or take you to court and the due amount jumps to £18k.
The fact you get connected straight away should be the biggest red flag because that never happens with the real HMRC.
Personally I enjoy these phone calls, its nice to find out I've purchased property in Conwy last year , but sadly other people easily fall for these scams.

Re: Hermes phishing scam ...
There’s also another one doing the rounds, I had a text about my missing off some information from my Census form, but it came to my work phone, which I never divulge the number. I certainly didn’t put my work number on my Census return. It stated that I could be fined £100 if i didn’t conform to their request by clicking on the link in the text. Another give away that it was a scam was the end of the link, .net. All government stuff is .gov.uk. Please be careful folks.

Re: Hermes phishing scam ...
Interesting that this article should appear on BBC this weekend
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-56934517
A friend of mine was scammed when he was convinced that he was talking to his Bank. They referred him to the number that they were calling him from. It was the same number as the number for his Bank from the back of his Bank card.
He lost thousands and went to his grave, knowing that he'd been "had".
As I suggested earlier in this thread, trust no one!
And, to those who are yelling at your laptop "They'll never get me!"
Good! But my mate was a very intelligent, switched on guy and they got to him. Stay safe !

Royal Mail do send text messages. I’ve had several linked to deliveries I’ve been expecting although they usually send an email at the same time.

So do I.
I like to see how long I can keep them talking for before they hang up. My record is eight minutes.
I get lots of calls from the "BT Internet Department " telling me there is suspicious activity on my computer. I always ask them which office they are calling from, and they ALWAYS say the head office in Newgate Street London. I reply "Ah yes , I know it well, just remind me of the name of that great pub opposite the main entrance ".
That shuts them up.

Re: Hermes phishing scam ...
I had a very realistic looking message last week - clicked on the link which took me to a legitimate looking website.
Clicked on the copied logo at the top on the site and was taken to a basic page which was not set up.
It will have fooled a lot of people no doubt.
So a quick tip it you’re sent a link is to always click on the logo/home page when on the link to Hermes/Royal Mail etc ,,,. As it would/should take you to the legitimate home page of the site if it’s the real deal. (This isn’t always the case as someone could just link the logo to the real page but a lot of scammers won’t have thought that far - it’s just a quick way to rule out quickly if it’s false)

Re: Hermes phishing scam ...
Please ignore the advice to click on the link - just don’t click any links sent to you, always the safest way. If you think it’s genuine, use another device to type the link into a search engine with “ “ around it and you’ll quickly find out if it’s a scam or not.
