Well we had £80m this time last year. Anyone’s guess now, I’d say. Probably half as much but still plenty enough to buy without having to sell.

I find it hard to believe if Worrall was our main target we’d have failed to sign him last summer or January.
I think it might be Nixon that lacks imagination when linking us to players, but we’ll see.

Dont tell me you didnt see the bank building for the last couple of years?
The plan was so obvious to most people with half an idea about hiw to go about selling a business for its maximum, whilst pocketing huge sums in the process.

He boarded the gravy train as it pulled into the station for a refuel and got off with a very full belly, or pockets in this case

I thought it was well known that what we had in the bank before the takeover bears no resemblance to the current cash position. Why on earth would the new owners borrow heavily paying interest alone of circa £7m per year if there was such substantial sums of cash available?

The new owners don’t have a pot a to **** in, the only way they could purchase a football club was by such a leveraged deal.
Only thing you could say is why did Garlick sell the club to this new lot. Can’t really blame him though after the abuse he got.

Not the right thread for this discussion, but absolutely disagree on this statement. There is only one person in the world that could sanction the transaction structure & that was Garlick. Nobody knows. It’s all speculation. All we know is we had £80m pre-takeover. I agreed it is likely a lot less now, but ALK’s specific statement on the matter was: “ Burnley Football Club's cash reserves remain in a healthy position following the takeover and compare favourably to other Premier League clubs.”taio wrote: ↑Sun May 30, 2021 12:17 pmI thought it was well known that what we had in the bank before the takeover bears no resemblance to the current cash position. Would be a great signing but I think he’s only one if Tarky goes. Can’t see him coming here to play second fiddle, or Liverpool wanting to sell actually. Yeah I don't imagine they'd let him go on the cheap, but with Van Dijk, Gomez, Konate and Matip most likely all ahead of him, and him being 24 now, I could see him moving on

Would anyone take Andros Townsend ? 29 years old - think can play either wing - seems to put a shift in. Whilst palace are messing around installing a manager we could steal in as he's a free agent come Tuesday.

We'd have to raise our upper wages, as he's already on £60k ish apparently, we'd need to know what he's agreed with Palace in the event a new manager wants him.

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
I agree about not being able to be a selling club yet. We're to low on numbers and need to do what we can to build some good squad depth again. It's frustrating because we've taken a backward step but it is what it is.NewClaret wrote: ↑Sun May 30, 2021 10:09 amThat’s either other clubs significantly undervaluing our players or Stoke significantly overvaluing theirs!
I agree it’s a model we have used successfully in the past and will do moving forward. It’s high risk too though, since you are selling a proven player to buy unproven ones. Get it wrong and you’re down, when the vultures will circle for all your best players on the cheap.
My point is that, with our squad so depleted, this summer is not the one to start contemplating that approach. We need to build the squad back up to a point we are able to do that.
Another point is that Dwights value is unlikely to reduce at 21. If we put some other decent players around him this summer it might bring the best out of him & increase his value.
When we were discussing transfers a few pages back I argued that we probably don't have the money to bring in the quality we need in each position so we'll have to make a few uninspiring signings to bolster the team before we can even think about getting in some real quality. I hope I'm wrong and these leaks (if true) are at least a positive sign.
About the valuation of players. My point is to be a selling club and also make enough money to survive in the premier league we need to be selling players to teams that will pay top dollar, not teams like West Ham who tried to sign Tarkowski for 30m. We need to be selling him to a bigger club which means we also need to raise the profile of our own players by finishing higher.
It's catch 22 but I don't think you can really be a selling club if you're only selling players for small fees, just because that doesn't give you enough money anymore to successfully replace those players without taking too much of a step back.
I think we've done well keeping hold of players generally but we need to get a bit better at offloading them at the right time and getting them to sign multi year contracts before we sell. At least now there's a few more teams spending stupid money but we need those teams interested in our players.

Walked away skint no doubt....
Anyway, back to topic, I have long since given up trying to second guess our “recruitment team”... (I’ve put it in inverted commas for a reason) I’d be very surprised if we spent £25m in the summer, very surprised indeed, and that INCLUDES taking any money from player sales into account.

Hopefully because he himself realised that any business needs working capital, particularly during the uncertainty of covid and following a period of underinvestment. I’d also have hoped that Mike Garlick wouldn’t have been willing to take all the clubs cash reserves (albeit I’d have hoped he’d take none, actually).
I’d rather we have no debt but for a variety of reasons I think it’s significance is overstated.
In any event, and however they fund purchases this year, they will have to find a way to do it that doesn’t annoy Dyche or their business plan will be in tatters.

Exclusive...
Following the recent pronouncements from the chairman, I am confident about these 3 major transactions:
1. Bovril AND Massey's Brewery to become first ever advertisers, citing the commercial opportunities of the big TV. Mr Bovril quoted as saying "I'm so excited about the big TV, Thanks to Mr Pace, it really needed an American marketing guru to reinvent pitchside advertising , only 140 years after it was first used."
2. Jobo2007 and Playyyerr55 have both been recruited from AiScout. Additionally, the chairman is looking closely at Nippywinger, who has proven herself to be prolific having made 5(FIVE) TikTok's, amassing 637 views in total.
3. Mbappe definitely signed.I can confirm that a firm offer has been submitted for Kylian Mbappe. A limited edition signed picture of Mbappe scoring a screamer has been secured following protracted negotiations involving Chairman Pace, Getty Images and YellowHeart, with a fee of the Burnley FC Women 2021-22 Squad Non-fungible Token, plus 3 ultra-rare NFT's of an actual discarded Twix wrapper from the Cricket Field Stand men's urinal that occurred only once ever during half time in the Cardiff match on 13th April 2019.
Seriously, I hope we can make a couple of signings, and begin to bring through more youth, as clearly Pace is becoming a marketing mouthpiece in the worrying absence of external finance.

Story today saying Liverpool want 10m for Nat Phillips. Given his performances this season in the Premier League surely he'd be a better option than some of the over priced championship defenders we've been linked with. The stumbling block might be his 65k wages and the fact that he wants to stay and fight for his place at Liverpool.

His wage is obviously pure speculation, but if it’s anywhere close to 65k a week it just shows the issues we’re up against. £65k a week for effectively a reserve defender is crazy. Yes he’s had a good run in the team but prior to that he’s had little football for a player of 24.dibraidio wrote: ↑Mon May 31, 2021 8:32 amStory today saying Liverpool want 10m for Nat Phillips.
