This signing the right characters thing makes no sense as he signed Barton as alluded to above, also signed Hendrick when he had a court date set, signed Bardsley who has had a past too, Andre Gray had a past also. Just contradicts itself.

Dyche spoke about the right characters yesterday in the press conference and said that's what every manager wants. He also says that sometimes you might want to bring in someone who maybe doesn't quite fit that and he quoted Joey.

This is true to an extent, although management isn’t just about choosing the perfect characters, it’s also about being able to manage the more difficult ones.

Of course we don’t want blatantly difficult individuals, but there should be some flexibility, should a player with the right skill set become available.

I agree but that's the missing information for all of us - we don't know what SD and the team know about these players. We have no idea of the research, conversations and general due dilligance that has taken place.

You can take 1 of 2 views with our approach (Using Christie as an example.)

View 1 - He is a bargain, all his stats look good and he seems to be the perfect player for the gaps we have in the squad. You can't believe we are not in for him etc. We should be more accommodating to these types of players and do everything within a reason to get these players in. We assume that the problem is with us.

View 2 - Our due diligence and research/checks on the player have highlighted this player and we are aware of who he is and his strengths/weaknesses and whether he would be a good fit. For whatever reason, this player has not been found to be suitable to Burnley and we are satisfied that the benefits this player could bring are just not worth progressing any interest in them.

Within this decision, it could be a number of things that have caused us to remove them from our thinking.

- Financials - wages too much, agents asking for fees we are not prepared to engage with etc.
- Player - we don't think that with the way we play, he would be effective or add sufficient value to the team.
- Not someone that will fit in with the group - we have had feedback from people that have worked with the player and have found that he doesn't fit with the team/club ethos.

Regardless of the view, you take - no one knows whether we have been too strict with our criteria and missed the next big thing, or whether we have just dodged a bullet because of the way we look at players but I think SD understands that flexibility is key as a leader.

I have heard him talk about leadership topics and I have every confidence that he is a modern leader in his approach and he will work with different players and understand they will be motivated differently.

He will already be used to adapting his approach to ensure he is motivating his players in the way which gets the best from them. He has done this with Barton and we know he has got rid of people who aren't happy, or look like they are likely to cause disruption or look to challenge and unsettle the wider group.

If anyone thinks SD doesn't understand this or know how to do this - I think it's naive.

Cornet can play left and right. Perhaps Dyche also wants McNeil drifting in from the right more this season.

Cornet has played on the right. Look at his goal against city a couple of years ago cutting in from the right. He looks like he’s be class on the left though for us with his pace and crossing.

That would be an awesome window if it happens, the encouraging aspect is we're still active in the market, and we do appear to be getting linked to many more potential signings than I can recall at this same stage last summer, however the proof will be in the pudding, and who if any of those latter names mentioned actually signs for BFC.

Rumours are one thing, signings are quite another, but we do still have 17 days to go, so there's hope yet. A lot will depend on what other offers Christie & Cornet have on the table, if there's genuine interest from other parties that'll make our task of convincing them to join us all the harder, but we can almost certainly offer guaranteed 1st team action to any right winger worthy of the title, so that must count in our favour, and certainly in the case of Christie I can't believe his wages would be out of our range, Celtic don't normally pay daft salaries, even for their more established stars, and I suspect a lot like Burnley a large % of these earnings will be based on bonuses.

For a few weeks now, Burnley have been after Maxwel Cornet, who appears to be on his way out of Lyon in Ligue 1.

Back in mid-July, L’Equipe in France claimed Sean Dyche’s side weren’t scared of the €13m asking price set by the French club for their winger, and it appears the first steps towards a transfer have been taken.

By that, we mean an offer has been made, as per Foot Mercato, who report on Friday that Burnley have put forward ‘over €16m’ for Cornet.

This was ‘officially transmitted’ to the French side, and, by doing so, means the Premier League club have ‘clearly taken a lead’ over the competition, which mostly consists of Hertha Berlin.

Since Lyon ‘wanted at least €15m’, the offer from Burnley ticks all their boxes, suggesting that, if Cornet wants the move, he might not stay much longer.

Now, we just have to wait and see if both the club and the winger accept the offer.
