I’m not disputing that, I’m questioning the period he left with permission to go to rockcliffe I’m struggling to understand why he was still being paid whilst somewhere else, if I left my workplace & went to another workplace even under contract, for 1 I would be denied permission & secondly I wouldn’t be paid whilst not at the workplace, I understand essentially he was pretty much doing the exact same thing at rockliffe as he would have been doing at gawthorpe, you train with a set team for a reason, Liam Cooper from Leeds wouldn’t be granted permission to train with us because if he did there’s every likelihood on a match day he would be confused & be passing the ball to Ben mee & others when he should be passing the ball to ayling ect, I realise it wasn’t exactly like that because boro are/were a championship side, like I say a very strange setup for allowing permission & secondly even more bizarre for paying him for that favour.
We've never heard the reason as to why Gibson and someone else fell out, it's assumed to be Dyche, but still we don't know the details.

We do know that Dyche values team harmony very highly so if he's got a disgruntled player who can train elsewhere then why not do it?

You're looking at football players like they're a normal business employee in a normal business environment when the reality is very different.

Imagine the carnage on here if we'd just sacked him and never recouped some of our outlay for example.

They just sent him away, similar to being suspended on full pay, to enable him to still train and keep fit, until a new work place could be found for him.
Worked out well for everyone in the end.

Am trying to think of other clubs in the Prem where we have the same wealth in terms of ownership.

Even allowing for the fact we had £50-90 million (depending on what has been said) in the bank that's peanuts in today's money.
We will have a top 40 wage bill in Europe.

Not confirmed but I heard that Gibson may have clashed with Woan, and was also not pleased about not starting when the team went through a bad spell. Situation probably became untenable after that and it was best for him to be off site

Be was injured for most of the time while our form was at its poorest that season.

Gibson probably felt that, after the 5-1 Everton game when both himself and Ben Mee were fit (but both awful that day, not helped by the atrocious 5-3-2 tactics) that he ought to have got the nod in the next game against West Ham. Ben Mee had turned in some terrible performances during the first half of the 2018/19 season whilst Gibson was injured, but when Gibson was fit again, Mee was chosen to continue, and because of our upturn in form, Gibson didn't get another look in.

That we stayed up quite comfortably in the end probably justifies Dyche's decision, but Mee really couldn't have had any complaints had he been dropped after that Everton game for our fit-again joint record signing. Most other managers probably would have done so, but who knows where we'd have ended up that season.

He was unlucky with injuries. However he was always going to struggle to displace Mee unless he too got an injury or suspension

Gibson trained with Middlesbrough because it was considered beneficial to Burnley Football Club that 1) he remained fit and 2) he wasn't at Burnley. He wasn't going to be playing for us. We were obliged to pay him because he was under contract but it was our club's decision to keep him away from our training ground.

We then did a good loan deal with Norwich in terms of their financial obligations during last season and then got a good deal for him, that had previously been agreed, when they went up. The only negative for us then would have been Norwich not winning promotion.

I was strange in that this situation doesn't arise very often, but it did and we did our best with the situation while also doing the best by one of our employees. He was never going to play for us again so, overall (and I've seen her photo on a previous post) it was best all round for BFC and Ben Gibson.

Not sure why this has reared up on this thread though other than the fact that we sold him in this window.

Double signing of Cornet and Nottm Forest's Joe Lolley for hundreds and thousands of pounds to be announced in the coming few days!

Sorry guys that's the best I could come up with.

Not sure if you’re fishing ? But surely you know we’ve hardly any available funds to purchase and pay ,let’s say a couple of 25-30m off the peg prem players we so desperately need . Im still hoping we can get a couple over the line and I’ll be livid with Pace if we don’t . But this ain’t a Dyche issue . He plays the only football we’re capable off ( officially the oldest prem team ) with our bunch of hard working ( mainly)journeymen

Every single player has been signed by Dyche or renewed contracts on his watch.
Everything about how we play and who with is down to Dyche. That's the good and the bad.

He could make more funds for himself by selling players at their peak and re-investing. He has shown no signs of doing this.

Defour was a class act, think Vydra can play abit he looks for give and goes etc.
Obviously McNeil came through the ranks.
We however play risk free football, as we dont have the legs or formation to recover if exposed, that's why we are often punished on the turn over of possession.

You only need to look at our set up/approach to games and jobs of our "attacking" players to realise its defensive or safe play first and foremost then go from there.

Open, attacking, expansive, entertaining call it what you like football is the last thing on the managers mind, so he buys players to suit his plans.

Managers have a style , and the tactics and purchases are usually built around that.

Dyche said last week that he prefers to bring players in permanently if possible but I wouldn't rule out a loan.

Maitland-Niles on a loan to buy depending on survival would be ideal.

Yeah never understood our reluctance to loan. If we can purchase a suitable winger, whether that be cornet or not, and maybe then get Lennon as 4th choice, we could loan (or even loan to buy) a cm to reduce costs hugely.

The reluctance to loan is probably down to the team spirit/ethos. If a player is here knowing full well that he isn’t staying next season anyway, then that fight might not quite be there as it would be for someone who would be with us for say 1-2 more years?

A loan to buy would be preferable in my eyes, as a player is effectively putting himself in the shop window for a contract either with ourselves at the end of the season, or other potential suitors if we don’t fancy him or cannot afford

can understand that logic

- wasn't Kightly initially on loan?

certainly worth while trying the loan system this season!

Mee and Trippier were brought in by Eddie Howe . I think it’s just Dyche’S preferred method, although I feel that with the new board he maybe more flexible in his ways as the board will be either the cheque book.

Willock, Lingard and Walcott were only on loan for 4/5 months but look at the impact they made to the three clubs they joined, and they all seemed to be integral to their new teams

Teams might be wary of loaning us players with our track record of not using them. Bamford and Chalobah came from Chelsea and barely got a kick.

When you have a manager who is reluctant to use the loan market, at a club that does not have the finances to compete in the marketplace and sign players, it pretty well sums up where we are in terms of struggling to bring reinforcements in.

It took me a while but the first half of that 2017/18 season he was superb. If only he'd have been able to keep fit but then again we wouldn't have got him had he been.
Yes, if he had given us 2 full seasons of him at his best, he would have been snapped up for a large fee.
Technically brilliant and I doubt we hardly if ever so him 100% fit and firing.

It's a few months ago now but I watched the 3-2 win at Chelsea again. There were some outstanding performances that day, Brady for one, but Defour was even better than I remembered.

Every single player has been signed by Dyche or renewed contracts on his watch.
Everything about how we play and who with is down to Dyche. That's the good and the bad.

He could make more funds for himself by selling players at their peak and re-investing. He has shown no signs of doing this.
Good points but SD does not and has never had the word on selling unless an emergency . He’s a huge pragmatist and has built on graft before flair with meagre resources . If we’d gone for flair on our budget we’d have been annihilated. The previous board were very lucky we stayed up on peanuts

Indeed - that was a classic Burnley performance. Played some class stuff. There was a genuine excitement to see us play that year - we were building something great. Since then we have gone backwards due to lack of investment but with a couple of good signings in this window we might just be back on track.

Even since then we've shown we are more than capable of being a good side, finishing 10th two seasons ago and matching the points total of 54 points.

We have really - and to a large extent the injuries suffered by Brady, Defour and JBG who were all excellent in the first half of that season. Then we lost Brady in December and Defour in January.
