I don't think I'm being dramatic or need to dial back the rhetoric. A lot of people on here have turned on Barnes and comments like 'Yes but now he is rubbish' are just unnecessary and disrespectful.Shaggy wrote: ↑Sat Aug 21, 2021 10:03 amHiya,
I think you are being a bit dramatic to suggest that people have turned on Barnes. The suggestion is that he isn’t good enough for the premier league any more, which is a very valid and fair point.
You might disagree that’s fine but dial back the rhetoric a wee bit as that how people bicker on here.
From my own point of view I like Barnes but do believe that post injury his best days are behind him.

On the face of it, and in purely football terms, Loftus Cheek would certainly improve us.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Sat Aug 21, 2021 10:09 amWe should go for RLC from Chelsea people can criticise him all day long but he’d walk into our midfield overnight.
Edit - although I did think the same about Drinkwater.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
I think Barnes and Wood had a decent spell - but Vydra is better than Barnes.
Question: Would you rather Barnes start or Vydra?

I don't mind 442, it works for us.summitclaret wrote: ↑Fri Aug 20, 2021 9:41 pmWhat would be worthwhile is to have subs that could make a half decent impact. We play 442 and only have 2 wingers atm. Its absolutely mad.
It's the subs, if SD brought Pieters on for Dwight after 60mins, we could have won last Saturday. I still don't see what Ash for Jay Rod was supposed to achieve.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
We rarely sign a player who's not been mentioned somewhere in the weeks preceding their arrival. Sean said in his last press conference:
https://www.msn.com/en-gb/sport/transfe ... ar-AANvzoL
Talk about Ryan Christie from two days ago but I haven't seen it mentioned here.
Burnley linked with him again, plus Southampton. Once again quoting Celtic wanting 5 million for a player who's out of contract in 4 months time. Could he be talking about negotiating with Celtic? How much is 4 months of a contract worth?
Could it be Maitland Niles? I'd be very surprised if we were to stump up 20m.
Nat Phillips was strongly linked early in the summer and Liverpool are there are suggestions that Liverpool will sell for 15m but I'd have thought that Centre Half is no longer a priority it Tarky is staying and seeing out his contract.
Presumably he's not talking about wage negotiations with Aaron Lennon.
Anyone else that he could be talking about?
So presumably he's talking about a player or players who were mentioned some time ago but aren't still being linked.“There’s a few things we’re attempting to work on, but there’s a few things that have got away from us, so it’s the usual kind of situation"
Who could he be talking about?“The club are trying to activate things, keep irons in the fire and all the rest of the jargon, but usually somewhere along the way, you have to pay the money people want, and if you don’t, you don’t get the player.”

Think he was probably on about young, Albrighton and maybe lookman who got away. Maxwell Cornet seems the obvious link which we know they are “working on.”dibraidio wrote: ↑Sat Aug 21, 2021 10:41 am

Well yeah but I guess cornet is the one where we have to pay the money to get the player. We have heard reports that fit right in with this as we haven’t quite bid enough to get him.Steve-Harpers-perm wrote: ↑Sat Aug 21, 2021 10:55 amHope we are ‘working on’ more than just Cornet!

That’s often the case but within the last 24hrs I even found myself agreeing with him, so he has started talking some sense I don’t know whether somebody’s tapped him on the head or what’s happened.

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Well, he's starting, so I hope those who think his best days are behind him (as opposed to hating him and wanting him to fail) are wrong and that he rolls back the years with a display of s**thousery and effective centre forward play.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
As I said on the previous page there are several reports in the French press saying that Cornet himself is totally against the idea of joining Burnley. Nothing to do with money, he clearly thinks he can do better. It's not a question of paying more money. We've met Lyon's asking price, it's the player who doesn't want to come.Iloveyoubrady wrote: ↑Sat Aug 21, 2021 11:00 amWell yeah but I guess cornet is the one where we have to pay the money to get the player. Cornet doesn't want to play in the World's best league fair enough move on there are players out there would jump at the chance to play for us.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
But surely we'd have spoken to his agent to get see whether he's interested in joining us, otherwise would we still be trying to negotiate with Lyon?dibraidio wrote: ↑Sat Aug 21, 2021 11:42 amAs I said on the previous page there are several reports in the French press saying that Cornet himself is totally against the idea of joining Burnley. People keep regurgitating that but we don’t know if it’s the case. If we are pursuing him then we must have been in talks with his representatives and have a steer on whether he would be amenable to joining us. He may think that he can get a better deal elsewhere and keeping his options open, which is his prerogative. Let’s face it, Burnley won’t be the number one dream move for any player.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Sat Aug 21, 2021 11:48 amCornet doesn't want to play in the World's best league fair enough move on there are players out there would jump at the chance to play for us.

Find it difficult to believe that we are trying to sign a player who doesn't want to come here.

That is utter ********. He said he preferred hertha but we have since seen reports that he is open to joking the premier league and have heard that money talks. We wouldn’t be chasing him if he didn’t want to come here at all.dibraidio wrote: ↑Sat Aug 21, 2021 11:42 amAs I said on the previous page there are several reports in the French press saying that Cornet himself is totally against the idea of joining Burnley. We haven’t met their asking price yet either - we are 2 million or so out.

Interesting chat on BT sports now about our British/Irish concentrated recruitment. Crouch and Cole speaking well about the difficulties and risks associated with recruiting from further afield.

Not Crouches fault he's further afield.
Joking aside though, other clubs manage it okay despite some having less recent years in the premier league. Can't be that difficult to setup.

Yes, some other clubs manage it okay. But there is an argument that we can afford to take that risk less than other clubs. Crouch spoke well about the similarities with Stoke and inferred that signings such as Arnautovic upset the chemistry.superdimitri wrote: ↑Sat Aug 21, 2021 12:09 pmNot Crouches fault he's further afield.

Given there is often much better value abroad and some real bargains it's a market we need to have an infrastructure to be more active in.

I really don’t know. The lad hardly gets a chance. Perfect today to have played him and Wood but I suppose that’s why I’m not the Manager. I know if I was Vydra I’d be asking for a move.

Let’s have a break from this absolutely dire thread for posters who want to feel bad and keep on the match thread for the rest of the Liverpool game.
We’ve been really good that first half making it 2 good halves out of 3 in the first 2 games with some outstanding individual performances.

I'm not sure at all how we are financing the transfers if no one is leaving. A real sea of change is needed in the next week or so, or we are in big big trouble.
