Potential agent talk to ramp up our bid on Hughes I hear , I believe a certain reporter on Twitter who writes for the sun used to be involved with agents?Hedontplayforyou wrote: ↑Sun Aug 22, 2021 3:11 pmHughes is going Palace by the looks of the reports

Yes.
I'm not sure if Nigeria are in it, but I'm sure I saw Watford had 3 Nigerian players ( who started the game ) and 5 in total that could go the ACOF if their nation has qualified.

AMN on the bench for Arsenal
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Harry Kane played for Spurs today but you wouldn't bet on him not being sold.

But we keep splashing out for 3 rd choice centre halves - so we will have more money to spendClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Aug 22, 2021 3:22 pmI don’t think we penny pinch at all. It’s just a fact that we don’t have the money to spend on players when the financial commitment goes beyond what we can justify or afford.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Who will be 1st choice next season, and also good cover for if Mee and/or Tarky get injured.
We cannot rely on Long or Thomas to step in.
We've done the right thing with getting Collins in now, hopefully he will mirror what Tarky did when he was bought for when Keane moved on.
I just hope we do that in a few other areas of the team, like RB, CM and ST

Why just because you don't like the sun or Nixon doing his job as a sports reporter - you don't like to see him do his job and the contacts he obviously has in the business

CT was specifically referring to the newspaper not Nixon. Seems like you're trying to put words in his mouth for some reason.

Cornet seems to prefer JBG's role. But he's not coming anyway, so pointless discussing it.

He is supposed to prefer/be better on the right and the Lyon fan’s can’t understand why he has been played in the left
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
So he plays on the opposite wing to McNeil thenIloveyoubrady wrote: ↑Sun Aug 22, 2021 5:09 pmAt present he plays left wing back. It is fairly obvious we want him as a winger - and he has played both left and right wings. Lot during his career.

... and baring any serious bidding from other clubs, still have change left over to pick up Dan Barlaser, Abdou Harroui, or Anthony Caci. Caci might prove a bit difficult given the short time left in the window for Strasbourg to bring in a replacement. Still, he is in the last year of his contract which might sway a sale now or the next window. Maybe now with a loan until the next window if it goes down to the wire. He can play left back, right back ( has played centre back, but he is too slight to do that in the PL ) and I think he could do well on either wing. Reasonable pace, good defensive skills, excellent crosser and plays well with both feet.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 22, 2021 4:00 pmfor the money being talked about for Cornet we could probably get Christie and Hughes
I do think we need to bolster our development ranks by spending a bit of cash on some youngsters during this window, even if it means letting them play out the season at their existing clubs.
If I'm not mistaken the contracts of Richardson, Thomas, Gomez Mancini, Thompson, Harker and Glennon all come to an end in 2020.
It is all well and good for people to latch onto the media hype that is currently being generated about our development squad players, but one or more of them could decide to walk instead of signing a new deal. That would leave us with a stalled conveyor belt and some cushion the blow development fees.
Even going by my limited knowledge a number of names crop up.
Out of contract in 2021
Fredrik Andre Bjorkan ( Bodo / Glimt ) and Henrik Heggheim ( Viking FK )
Out of contract in 2022
Patrick Berg ( Bodo / Glimt ), Jamie McGrath ( St MIrren ), Thomas Holmes ( Reading ), ( Kerr McInroy ( Celtic ), Jón Dagur Thorsteinsson ( Aarhus GF ), Conor McCarthy ( St MIrren ) and Nathanael Ogbeta ( Shrewsbury Town ).
I'm sure a lot more are out there.
What gets me is that we seem to repeat the same scenario window after window. It has been like groundhog day for the last five windows.
We look for £10m+ players who can make a difference now or in a short space of time.
We fail to sign anyone and then we try again the season after, experiencing the same.
Had we spent money buying young players five windows ago we might have better options available to us now. A couple of hundred grand spent here and there, or more for quality players like Berg and we could put ourselves in a much stronger position.
Everyone seems to be overly concerned with what we need right now to preserve our Premier League position and little to no thought is spent on the sort of team we would be left to work with if we got relegated. We were lucky last season, because three teams didn't show up and Sheffield United had an epic meltdown. I don't think that is going to be the case this season and our job will be a far more difficult.
Should the worst happen what would we have to work with after a relegation ?
Who would be sold, who would leave us on a free instead of signing a new contract if another team came calling, who would we be left with and how much of the cash from player sales and parachute payments would be available to rebuild the squad ( after we pay down any debts ).
Just as importantly how attractive will we be to new players and how will we find working with all the secondary leagues in Europe closed off to us and domestic teams reluctant to sell because they are in the same boat. Brexit has made Championship recruitment far more difficult than it was and I'm not confident we realise that.
We need to prepare for the best and the worst case scenarios, which means making the most of our Premier League status and attraction now. We might not be able to overshadow many of the other Premier League teams, but we can lord it over most of the Championship clubs. The only thing that many of them have as a selling point is regular playing time, which we can also offer if we send any new players out on loan to develop.

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Dyche has a track record of working with we've got.
JBG plays on the right because he is the best we have for that position. The fact that he is left footed is an after thought. He does okay with his right. Brady played there when we had no other options and Lennon is right footed. Dwight wasn't very good when we played him on the right.

So all because of Hillsborough then - I agree was bad and that's why it's never sold in Liverpool but that was over 30 years agoClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Aug 22, 2021 4:47 pmNixon? What a ridiculous comment. I don’t think he was around in 1989.

I don’t care how long it is, and they resurrected it all again four years ago although they did print an apology of sorts for that. I wouldn’t touch a copy of the paper and I will not look at it online.

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
I don't think we have much money either, but that doesn't stop us doing business. We can or could buy players and pay for them over the course of their contract.
So we could pay everything up front for a single £10m player or we could sign four players at £10m each on 4 year contracts and pay £2.5m per year for each of them ( for a total of £10m ).
The problem is that the money still needs to be paid and as my quick calculation shows signing four players in that manner could add £10m per year to our outgoings for a period of 4 years. Add that to our interest payments on the Dell debt, and the money we have to put aside to pay what is owed to the old shareholders, and things start to look dicey.
So we can theoretically buy players without selling, but not many.

No, JBG plays on the right because that’s the position he has played throughout most of his career to date.Long Time Lurker wrote: ↑Sun Aug 22, 2021 5:22 pmDyche has a track record of working with we've got.

You can keep coming out with your alternative names and guessing their values all you want but maybe, just maybe, Dyche wants Cornet. Maybe Dyche has known about him for a long time and wants to bring him in. Maybe Dyche is comfortable with us spending £15m on Cornet. Maybe Dyche thinks it’s worth getting Cornet in for that money rather than spending that money on two other players.
