Yes and Pope was a project who didn’t play at first. Definitely wasn’t premier league ready when he first joined. Even JBG was seen as potential when we bought him for 2.5M 5 years ago...

I’m not sure if you aware of this but it’s not the done thing for relegation rivals to sell us players to strengthen us, Brighton knew what there were doing.Rileybobs wrote: ↑Mon Aug 23, 2021 2:17 pmI didn't say Stephens was good. Why is it impossible to have a discussion on here without people resorting to lies or strawmen arguments?
Stephens was obviously Premier League ready. He had made 33 appearances for Brighton the season before. His legs haven't 'gone'.

Awesome signing at that cost
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
But with us, it's never really been how good the player is individually, but how good they fit into our system.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Mon Aug 23, 2021 3:20 pmI’m not sure if you aware of this but it’s not the done thing for relegation rivals to sell us players to strengthen us, Brighton knew what there were doing.
There were many dissenting voices when we signed Erik Pieters but he's done very well as and when required.

I think Trevor Francis was just a million, wasn't he?

Despite that, if Brighton thought that DS would improve us in any shape or form he wouldn’t be here they wouldn’t have sold him to us it’s that simple, you can’t fix/fit something that’s broken or on it's way out into any system really, not for any great length of time anyhow, it’s not DS fault.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Nixon just tweeted this in response to being asked if Herta are still after him.
‘ Were after him … don’t know if still are … but there’s another club sniffing … so not a time to dither “
Then said it’s not Leeds

Dale needed signing 4 yrs previously but by the time Brighton agreed he was already on the slide
Another example of our clueless recruitment at the time.We needed to gamble on rising stars but our scouting failed to identify any.

We need a yay or nay from Cornet asap really so we can move on to other targets if necessary
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
As has been said, there is probably little we can do if he's keeping his options open.

looks like he's going to BrightonKRBFC wrote: ↑Wed Aug 11, 2021 8:37 pmWhat on earth does that mean, we also signed Ian Wright, Gazza and Andy Cole? Defour was playing in the Belgian league, he chose us instead of going to the middle east.
My point is Cucurella is a young talent, coming into his prime, heavily linked with Atletico Madrid. It's a little different to signing an ageing Defour wrecked by injury, as good and as talented as Defour was/is.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
I think cornet’s agent will be touting his client about trying to get a better deal. If there significant interest elsewhere, that could signal the end of our chances!

Is it that everything is agreed upon other than him making a decision?randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 23, 2021 3:55 pmWe need a yay or nay from Cornet asap really so we can move on to other targets if necessary
Genuine question as I am finding it increasingly difficult to follow now. I know there has been some speculation from one early report about his apparent interest in playing in Germany which I still can't find anything else on other than a regurgitation of this speculation?
I also can't find anything that says that we have agreed a fee for the player. I have seen varying stories of us offering amounts and increasing just to read another one that has different figures on.
Do we actually know if it is really down to the stage of him sat somewhere keeping us at arms length whilst he decides?

You do know all the other premier league managers read this message board, to find out who we’re after.

If we reach the 31st August and he still hasn't signed, perhaps a rendition of "The Last Post" played on a cornet would be a fitting ending for this long drawn out saga of a Transfer Thread.

This surely has to be with Lyon’s additional payout.

It appears offer has been accepted.
It appears that the man Cornet is unsure about becoming a Burnley player.
It feels like we should say take it or leave it and offer a time ultimatum of 24 hrs to give us chance to move on.
I know that multi million pound deals take time to come to fruition but if the fruit is dead on the tree then we need to be shaking a different tree.

Time for a trip to the Forest to see if Lolley wants to join us maybe ?

Same old same old .
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
I believe Cornet is a left back. I consider Lb to be one of our stronger positions with Taylor and Pieters. So question. If Cornet signs the would he first choice lb or would he play left midfield allowing McNeil to play on the right or central midfield. Or maybe Taylor would be sold ? I have not seen the player but a lb seems a strange signing

The club must have had plenty of encouragement from the player and agent for us to keep pursuing the deal.Guller Bull wrote: ↑Mon Aug 23, 2021 4:46 pm

Unless it ends up being another Lambert situation where we've simply been used to get a better deal elsewhere.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
It's the Henri Lansbury situation all over again. Either he gives us a straight yes or no, or we move on.

Sometimes you can end up flogging a dead horse for the lack of any other genuine options.
Just a few more days until all is revealed.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Kaveh Solhekol on SSN stating we have met the price Lyon want so the deal could go through in the next few days, nothing new but another source confirming the 2 clubs appear satisfied with the price.

BBC reporter Alex Howell says nothing imminent but the bbc are always very reserved. They never actually publish anything officially until after the clubs have said it!!!
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Just because the clubs have agreed a deal, it doesn’t mean the completion of the deals is near.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Yellow banner on SS app states we have just offered 15m in 5 installments for Cornet

File under ‘too numerous to mention’ and move on.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
If he is dithering and hankering for another club then IMHO he's not s Dyche type player and might unsettle the changing room, As intimidated before give him 24 hours then move on.

We don’t know that. As far as we know we’ve only just recently agreed terms with Lyon. Hopefully then player terms will be agreed tomorrow or Wednesday.

Seen as he probably potentially represents our best chance towards retaining our league status we can’t afford to be bolshy, diplomacy is key.
