Stephens was obviously Premier League ready. He had made 33 appearances for Brighton the season before. His legs haven't 'gone'.

I’m not sure if you aware of this but it’s not the done thing for relegation rivals to sell us players to strengthen us, Brighton knew what there were doing.

My point is Cucurella is a young talent, coming into his prime, heavily linked with Atletico Madrid. It's a little different to signing an ageing Defour wrecked by injury, as good and as talented as Defour was/is.

Is it that everything is agreed upon other than him making a decision?

Genuine question as I am finding it increasingly difficult to follow now. I know there has been some speculation from one early report about his apparent interest in playing in Germany which I still can't find anything else on other than a regurgitation of this speculation?

I also can't find anything that says that we have agreed a fee for the player. I have seen varying stories of us offering amounts and increasing just to read another one that has different figures on.

Do we actually know if it is really down to the stage of him sat somewhere keeping us at arms length whilst he decides?

He’s more of a winger. Has played left and right before.

We don’t know that. As far as we know we’ve only just recently agreed terms with Lyon. Hopefully then player terms will be agreed tomorrow or Wednesday.

Seen as he probably potentially represents our best chance towards retaining our league status we can’t afford to be bolshy, diplomacy is key.
