Would be nice to get an objective review of him from a Lyon fan. Incredibly mixed reviews on social media.

But if someone asked us for an objective view of say McNeil, some would say the best thing since sliced bread whilst others would say 1 footed and lightweight. There’s a reason clubs don’t listen to the nonsense most fans come out with!!!PremierLeagueClass wrote: ↑Wed Aug 25, 2021 7:23 amWould be nice to get an objective review of him from a Lyon fan. Your opinion is way too high of yourself if you think you have any impact on my life joey. I just acknowledge dumbness when it is displayed on a public forum for all to see, but if it makes you feel better yes I think about you a lot
You must be desperate for this signing not to happen after your silly comments all summer

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Steve Bruce says he doesn't expect any more signings, so I don't think they are a threat to us signing Cornet. West Ham are circling though and they can offer more in wages than us. If Moyes Gazumps us, there are going to be an awful lot of disappointed people on this board, including me. I think the most disappointed though will be Alan Pace, who seems determined to get his man.
If we don't hear something in the next couple of days, that could mean Cornet's reps are also wanting to talk to West Ham before making a decision. If that becomes the case, I really don't fancy our chances.

We have had almost 4 weeks to sort this, and only a few days ago met their asking price. If he goes to WHU we will miss a major signing through our procrastination, and will end up in panic mode in the next 5-6 daysGordaleman wrote: ↑Wed Aug 25, 2021 8:45 amSteve Bruce says he doesn't expect any more signings, so I don't think they are a threat to us signing Cornet. I'd be surprised if West Ham are in for Cornet, been nothing apart from a "we understand" comment on a clickbait site. Hammers much more likely to be after Lingard.

You often say things like this, but you need to realise players of this standard (especially abroad) are never going to rush to sign for us. It is delusional to think this has dragged on down to the club.warksclaret wrote: ↑Wed Aug 25, 2021 8:50 amWe have had almost 4 weeks to sort this, and only a few days ago met their asking price. I hope you are right Grimsdale. They will be active in the market this week, as their squad lacks depth for a club that wants to repeat last years success, plus they will have a lot of games in the Europa (and their domestic cups). They will want someone to deputise for Antonio (who is injury prone), and Cresswell who is 32 and probably could not play every game. They have already signed Zouma

I don't think 'Procrastination' has anything to do with it. I'd call the delay 'Due diligence.' As for when the bid was put in and accepted, no one really knows. It's just speculation. I hope the W Ham link is just that, speculation. From Cornet's point of view, it's simply a matter of wages and if West Ham want to, they can beat us on that.warksclaret wrote: ↑Wed Aug 25, 2021 8:50 amWe have had almost 4 weeks to sort this, and only a few days ago met their asking price. Certainly, if Cornet is as good as we are led to believe, it wouldn't be surprising if other clubs are interested.

It is most likely the player and his agent causing the delay looking for a better deal. If West Ham come in these tactics have proved right, for him

I hope I’m wrong but I can see this all ending in tears. Newcastle will sell on Allan Saint-Maximin for a big fee which will leave them with plenty in the coffers to sneak Maxwells C from under our noses with a better personal offer. Fingers crossed I am wrong as I think by all reports this lad will be a gud un.

You may call it "business", but we need to get smarter in an area of our business where we are sadly lacking behind even the Norwich's and Brentford's of this world. The first time you ever hear of these transfers are when they are complete. We have a lot to learn. We are in the PL and for a club of our size you only survive by being savvy or smart. We cant keeping hiding behind the "little old Burnley" of this world label.Down_Rover wrote: ↑Wed Aug 25, 2021 9:21 amComments like this are so tiresome. Which player of the standard of Cornet have Norwich or Brentford signed and nobody in the world knew about until it was done ?warksclaret wrote: ↑Wed Aug 25, 2021 9:28 amYou may call it "business", but we need to get smarter in an area of our business where we are sadly lacking behind even the Norwich's and Brentford's of this world. If you mean nobody in this area heard of Norwich signing someone until it was announced you may be right, probably due to nobody being arsed and vice versa. Who is hiding behind this "little old Burnley" it is just a stupid comment to make.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Lyon, Cornet, and the agent all have a vested interest in delaying and making the bid public to try and attract a bidding war. Nothing BFC can do about that.warksclaret wrote: ↑Wed Aug 25, 2021 9:28 amYou may call it "business", but we need to get smarter in an area of our business where we are sadly lacking behind even the Norwich's and Brentford's of this world. The only option is to make a bid so vast, with such high wages, that Lyon and Cornet both agree on the spot. That isn't going to happen. Should it? I doubt we could afford the across-the-board wage increases throughout the squad that would be inevitable, if it became known that BFC were soft touches who would pay whatever you ask.

Wish it was. Andy Carrol and Daniel Sturridge once fired my York team to the Champions League. Though I had edited the game to give us a financial backer. But that's irrelevant and don't see why we can't just do the same.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Wed Aug 25, 2021 9:51 amQuite worrying that after 156 pages, some posters appear to think signing players is like it is on football manager

The whole process of a transfer seems to take at least 3 days .
If Newcastle want Cornet instead of ASM then we will have him instead.

No one on here really yet knows "the standard of Cornet". However Norwich have recently signed Sargent for £8m from Werder Bremen, Tzolis from PAOK for £10m, plus secured a very shrewd loan of Bryn Williams from Man Utd for 12 months, who is an outstanding young attacking fullback.I am sure they tried to get them at the best price and the lowest wage, as they too don't have a wealth of funds.claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 25, 2021 9:43 amWhich player of the standard of Cornet have Norwich or Brentford signed and nobody in the world knew about until it was done ?

Brandon (not Bryn) Williams was wanted by Southampton on loan the terms they were offered included a 2m loan fee plus pay his wage in full which would have made him the highest paid player at the club above the likes of Ings, Ward Prowse & Walcott to call it shrewd is lacking in information.warksclaret wrote: ↑Wed Aug 25, 2021 9:57 amNo one on here really yet knows "the standard of Cornet". As for not knowing the standard, he has just done 6 full seasons for Lyon in Ligue 1, played in the Champs League including reaching the semi finals and is a full international

Bruce said yesterday he expects no new signings at Newcastle. As for Cornet we will have already sounded out his agent and we will be finalising the finer points. Stories of West Ham coming in with a late bid seem like clickbate!
If this gets done it's a real statement by Pace and Co. Add in Christie or AMN then this will have been the best window in years.

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
I’m feeling very nervous about our pursuit of Cornet, the longer it drags on, the less likely we are to get him.
