Hard to argue with that view.Steve-Harpers-perm wrote: ↑Sat Aug 28, 2021 8:45 pmMore realistic than greedy! Squad still short even with this excellent signing.
As Pace said in his recent interview, it’ll take a few windows. However, following a few in which we’ve underinvested, we probably do need at least one more decent signing in this window.
We’ve a big job ahead, both in terms of maintaining our premier league status and developing the squad to account for age / end of contracts over the next few windows.

Independent of Nixon, several people who should never be dismissed on here suggested a week or so ago Comet was one of four showing promise of which it was hoped at least two it would be close to getting over the line.

I think we’ve been holding back until Cornet was either signed off or dead in the water before advancing with other deals , clearly a wide man was priority , we may just see other things move quickly after he is confirmed

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Nixon broke the Cornet story 6 weeks ago … he was the first.
Contrary to what some people think on here. He has also said yesterday
Cornets do sometimes have double scoops suggesting another signing.

Both my parents worked for the Telegraph back in the day.
15/20/30 years ago, the Telegraph was full of local people, with local contacts, who worked flat out 12 hour days to produce a publication to be proud of.
News Desk and particularly Sports Desk would have a direct line with the managers. Both Stan and Steve Cotterill would ring in regularly. It’s just not the same relationship now between the local press and the club.
Working for a local newspaper, certainly now, is a thankless task. Circulation is a trickle of what it was, revenue utterly reliant on advertising.
I don’t envy Chris Boden. He knows himself that he is sidelined with the advent of social media etc. He’s a Claret, does his best, and doesn’t deserve the stick he gets.

I suspect that he may actually know more than he’s able to say, in the interests of maintaining relationships that he’s developed.
It’s a thankless task in the day of social media and the need to still bring in revenues.

I think with Chris Boden it's a case of it is what it is. It's not his fault, but he's working for the Burnley Express who has been left in the past, and doesn't know how to keep up. Because of that, he himself is being left behind. 20 years ago, they'd know about it first. Today, we know about it even before the player/manager/club knows about it sometimes.

Not getting this dislike of twitter links, or people (presumably seriously) saying they won't believe it till he's holding a scarf above his head
The contract is signed, he's on his way, multiple very reliable French sports journos and publications are tweeting it out
Course, he might now turn out to be totally bobbins, but we've signed him

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
I reckon he will become a Burnley legend and cult hero, he's going to offer us something we have been desperate for for ages. Glad he chose us far better to be a key player then a squad player if he had of opted for another club. Can't wait to see him in the shirt.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
I guess as social media gets stronger, his line of work gets weaker, so can't blame him.
But as Lancaster mentions, we have enough solid sources to put together and know it's happened. It's done, it's dusted and all that's left is him coming out onto the pitch for the unveiling.
Also seen quite a few comments suggesting this could be the most underrated signing of the summer - and they aren't Burnley fans! He looks a very decent prospect and the sort of player that could really make us less one-dimensional.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
I have taken a bit of time off from the board recently, not that I expect anyone to have noticed. What an interesting window it's shaping up to be though. Here are my thoughts/observations on return...
Transfer windows have become obsessive "events". I am as guilty of that as anyone but I have a new dynamic. My sons have reached an age and it's borderline all they want to talk about. I waste too much time following it myself to then have to listen to their naive, albeit social media "informed", views on what's happening.
The Cornet signing is refreshingly ambitious. The Collins signing is encouraging. The Hennessey signing looks inspired. I understand why we went for BPF when we did. He is capable of excellence (see penalty save the other day and performances for NI) but consistency and ability to inspire confidence in the defence need work. The Lennon signing is pragmatic. Sounds like we might have one more in us too.
ALK have made meaningful investment in the squad and that is to be applauded. It's clearly not a bottomless pit though and, with the extra financial strain on us from a leveraged buyout, we have to change the transfer model. We have to be mindful of the need to sell at the right time. I advocated selling Tarky last year if it was the difference between being able to re-engineer the squad versus nowt/Dale Stephens.
In amongst all this, SD seems happier and that, arguably, is the most important short-term factor of all. But that is for another thread.
Thanks to all for sharing their opinions, information, and questionable humour on this thread. I have enjoyed following it from a healthy distance and that just might be the future for me.

Presume international clearance and visas will have to be sorted before it is fully done, but hopefully all that is left to do are formalities.
