Rodriguez

Post by warksclaret » Mon May 10, 2021 5:20 pm

Dont for one minute think he will start tonight-Vydra, without doubt has earned his starting position, and hopefully the Wood/Vydra partnership will continue to deliver tonight. Just for info, Jay has a pretty good record v Fulham over the years, so if we are not looking sharp up front I hope he can come on and make amends for several relatively easy chances he has missed since the new year. If he was to score the winner tonight I think I could forgive him

I wouldn't be surprised to see Barnes start tonight.

Why? No match fitness. If this happens (and both Vydra and Wood are fit) then it’s disgrace.

Barnes wont start tonight, Vyds and Woody are both flying, so why on earth would he start a guy who's just coming back from a lengthy absence.

It is good that both Barnes and Jay Rod are available now even if it is from the bench. But all being well they won't be required tonight.

Agreed! he might get a few minutes from the bench if and when we're safe, but I can't see why he'd be in line for a start, should Vydra or Wood be unavailable then Jay will get the nod, even if he is out of form, he's at least had some minutes in recent weeks, whereas Barnes hasn't seen action in a long while, I don't think he's even had any run-out's in the youth fixtures to get him back up to speed, so ideally he'll get a good pre-season under his belt and come back fit and raring to go next season.

Just had a feeling Dyche might revert to the "tried and tested" tonight. And it's obvious Barnes has been one of his favourites. Glad I was wrong again!

I'm not sure you can argue Barnes/Wood combo has been tried and tested this season, they've had the odd match were it's been effective, Wolves at home comes to mind, but generally it's not worked, and the whole team looks far better with Vydra and Wood up front, Dwight in particular has flourished since Vydra's run in the side, and if it ain't broke don't change it.

Rodriguez isn't good enough, he might be from Burnley, he might be a nice guy, he might have bought you a drink before but his performances just aren't good enough and haven't been good for a long while.

Short memory, go back 10 months and he finished last season in great form, he’s struggled with form and injuries

I like Jay and Barnes. Both have been greats servants to the club. Both have scored vital goals.

But I think Both players says are numbered at Burnley.

I’d probably keep one and get rid of one in summer. But wouldn’t be surprised if both moved on.

I’ve heard a few murmurings from normally reliable people that Jay isn’t completely happy with his big part role and might be looking to move on in the summer.

I still think he has something to offer but it’s right that he’s behind Wood and Vydra in the pecking order at this moment in time.

One of our top 10 most expensive signings, you have to question the value we have had.

Played a key role in a good finish last season. So more than worth it for that alone I’d say.

That’s fair enough. That’s what you want. You don’t want a player happy to be on the bench. Just think we need to take the opportunity to get some younger legs in in various positions. This is a good opportunity to do so. Especially as Wood enters his peak.

Needs to drop down to the championship. Not good enough for us anymore. He’s popular at West Brom, could try and offload him there.

Jay rod is a decent option to have and has done well for us. Hasn’t been involved really this season due to injury and simply form.

Saying he needs to go is ridiculous - he was one of our best players last year and has hardly played this year.

Think it would be safer to let his manager be the judge of his value to us. Some of above comments prove that we as supporters know very little about how to manage and motivate a Premier league team. We have 4 capable strikers (when free from injury) vying for positions so competition for places is good. Maybe room for one more "younger" quality striker to join the squad?

Can we really afford to be carrying players who haven't been involved for a full season due to injury or form?
It's a complete waste of funds, funds that could be used on someone contributing.

If I was Sean the first thing I'd be doing this summer is getting Brady, Rodriguez, Stephens and Bardsley out and looking to replace with younger, fresher players who are capable of contributing. I'd give Gudmundsson another year and hope pre-season will really help his body. If we are signing older players, I wouldn't mind Andros Townsend (29 year old) on a free transfer though simply because his injury record is fantastic.

JayRod has a valuable role still to play and I think Bards can also do a job when needed.
Stephens can go and Brady too with my thanks.

It's not easy for our Manager with the budget he has to work with and once he has an idea if what that is he'll make the right decisions about who goes and stays. One things for sure we need more quality in several positions.
