Brownhill playing as a striker now. He’s done nothing wrong but we have 3 strikers on the bench.

Unlucky Tarks great delivery by Dwight, and a brilliant goal line clearance by the youngster.

About bloody time.
Re: mighty Clarets v Liverpool
Very strange. I'll play your game though. We had Heaton, who developed into an excellent keeper, he was good when he came but boy did we improve him. Then step in Pope who again was good but not setting the world alight, he's stepped into the first team and improved massively again. We brought in an experienced head in Hart who in reality Mercer was never going to improve at his age. We still have Pope starting. No one knows how Norris and BPF will pan out.
Or do you think our keepers are still on a par with Jensen?
Or do you think Pope has regressed?
Very odd.

And there appears to be very little coming from the development system.
Re: mighty Clarets v Liverpool
Yep. Dyche has a bit of a dilemma on his hands.
We’ve gone 3 in the middle, for more control, but we don’t have players with the technical ability, so we’ve still largely gone long to Wood. We may as well have played 4-4-2.
We desperately need a Defour in the middle to allow us to retain the ball better.

That's the difference. Look up before you make a cross.
Re: mighty Clarets v Liverpool
Back to my question, if you think there's been no progress in the GK department you either think the keepers are still on a par with Jensen or think Pope is getting worse. Which is it?boatshed bill wrote: ↑Wed May 19, 2021 9:52 pmAn often discussed "conveyor belt" seems to have stalled.

Or care to admit your original post is bobbins?
How you can improve on Heaton and Pope is one thing, but how we can improve on them while Pope is still here I find astounding.
Are you expecting the new Buffon on the bench?

Such a frequent feature throughout the season. Good in the middle but the final ball, touch or finish just aren’t there.

I think we have done pretty well tonight just the normal problem when we get in the attacking third.
Re: mighty Clarets v Liverpool
Billy Mercer doesn't sign the players you know. He's improved two relegated championship keepers so much that they both became England Internationals. Is that not good enough for you? One of them is still with the club and our undisputed number one/one of the best Goalkeepers in the league.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Wed May 19, 2021 9:27 pmFunny isn't it?
I keep reading about this mythical "Billy Mercer magic", well there's not much evidence of it on show lately..
This post is one of the strangest and most unfair criticisms I've seen in some time on here.

Yes we are crying out for someone that can retain the ball.
Some good play at times but final delivery is lacking. I think Taylor doing that bit of skills somes Burnley up. Fantastic bit of skill to get in space but then a shocking a cross.

Re: mighty Clarets v Liverpool
The reality is that you don't get top class goalkeepers for £3m nowadays.Conroy92 wrote: ↑Wed May 19, 2021 9:55 pmBack to my question, if you think there's been no progress in the GK department you either think the keepers are still on a par with Jensen or think Pope is getting worse. Which is it?

We have had two outstanding goalkeepers, we will be hard pushed to match them.
My point about the Mercer thing is that it seems that some posters on here believe that our ability to produce top quality goalies is a given.
It isn't.

May as well have not bothered with a keeper. Played an extra outfield.
Awful performance from him. Overawed snd too small apart from lousy positioning and poor choices!

Lots of good play. Totally pants at the back. As much as I like this more adventurous attacking play, I really worry about how it exposes us defensively.

I suspect this will be Norris first and last chance in our first team in the premier league.

Re: mighty Clarets v Liverpool
We've lacked a ball playing centre mid ever since Defour departed, unfortunately players like that don't come cheap, so if we want to improve in that area, and we really do need to, then we'll need to be prepared to splash big bucks.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Wed May 19, 2021 9:59 pmYes we are crying out for someone that can retain the ball.
