Problem with that theory is I’m sure we’ve picked up more points per game playing like that. A few tweaks to personnel and that some will work well.

We've done well yes but seriously. Liverpool on their day could have been in double figures today. The difference today was just keeping them out for a bit longer than usual.
In fairness we did play some good football but our final ball was awful.
One easy game left and hopefully a good summer of transfers to look forward to.
Commentator said tonight is all about Liverpool. I disagree, for me it was all about having fans back and it was great to see so much support for our team. With some good recruitment we'll be a force next season. Really good feeling surrounding the club.
Onwards and upwards.

Much better than the Leeds game; I don't think I've ever seen a three goal defeat that I've enjoyed as much, insofar as i didn't think we were beaten/out of it until the moment when Oxlade Chamberlain scored their third, an excellent shift from all the lads, even Gudmundsson grafted in the second half.

The story of our season in many ways. I thought we played really well tonight, but we've saved those performances for the top 6/8 teams when we'll always struggle to turn good shows into wins and then we haven't really shown up frequently enough against the also rans. That really wasn't a comfortable win for Liverpool and with more clinical finishing from us it would have been even tougher!

Fairly predictable. Didn’t think Liverpool were much. Phillips their best player says it all. We just look exhausted
Re: mighty Clarets v Liverpool
I’ve been critical of Brownhill but i think we saw a bit more from him tonight.
Not a poor performance, despite the score line.
On to the last game and hopefully a final three points of the season followed by some good recruitment in the summer.

Liverpool on another day should have won that 6-0 they missed some incredible chances no more so than Mane in the first minute.
We looked ok and tried hard but in reality Liverpool didn’t have to get out of second gear.
Some positives to work on, but very concerning the lack of quality in the final third. Main concern being what the hell would happen if Wood got injured next season.

I enjoyed the game Spijed and even at 2-0 I thought we were a tad unfortunate and were still in it. I think it's fair to say (as I did) that the inconsistency which had plagued us all season was evident again, because that level of performance every week (even most weeks) would put us in the top 10/11.

"We love you Burnley, we do", the Turf Moor faithfull sing as the players head off.
Glad to see the lads getting a deserved pat on the back for their efforts throughout the season, tonight was disappointing, but not really unexpected, and truth be told our work was done with the victory at Fulham which sealed another year at this level.

Everyone expects a rebuilding job in the summer, like they’ve not learnt from the previous 4/5 years. It’ll be one or two ageing players that just offer hard work and running and nothing remotely technical or creative or pace.

There’s some big wages that could be moved on without there being much detriment to the first 11.
Whether we can shift those wages though is another matter entirely.

Could quite easily have finished that score with the chances they missed. If it wasn’t for some heroic defending from Tarks and Mee with some last ditch tackles could have been more.

Problem is those “high” wages need replacing with players on equal or higher wages. They are premier league wages (lower end premier league wages apparently).

Re: mighty Clarets v Liverpool
Why the hell were the fans booing, we were playing Liverpool FGS, just maybe if the crowd got behind the lads instead of constantly being on their backs they might respond in kind, and just what did those who attended expect tonight, if Liverpool play anything like their best then 9 times out of 10 they'll beat us, and that's what happened this evening, we certainly weren't dreadful as some are implying, and if Wood or Tarks had scored then it could have been a different outcome.
The main thing this season with all the turmoil is we've survived and will still be a PL team come August, and for that feat alone SD and the squad should be lauded.

Re: mighty Clarets v Liverpool
Even I disagree with this negative summary (and that takes some bloody doing). I agree re a lack of quality re taking the chances we got, but Dyche opted for one up front and the extra man in midfield which tbh I agreed with. The result of that however is always going to be a dirth of scoring chances, but we did have them and if they are at a premium you really have to finish them, granted. Of course Liverpool had a shed load of spurned chances, but whenever we turn over one of the big boys they always make chances. It's just that they don't take them. E.G. City when Boyd won it for us and when Guddy scored for a 1-1 at home against them. Liverpool and Arsenal away this season. Liverpool at home when we won 2-0 with 19% possession. Utd away last season. There's loads of examples. It's only to be expected they'll be the better team and have a load of opportunities, but on our day we come out on top and today we really weren't that far away.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Wed May 19, 2021 10:15 pmI honestly just didn’t see the same performance.

You can’t seriously be suggesting we deserved anything out of that game?

I just didn’t see that side of the game today where our defence is rigid and we can keep teams at bay. To be honest I have seen that only on rare occasions this season. I used to think when we went a goal up no one was scoring against us.
I think Liverpool could have scored a shed load tonight but we were quite fortunate they didn’t have there shooting boots on.
Re: mighty Clarets v Liverpool

Agreed. When his form was shocking at the start of the season I was really against Wood but my god he has proven me wrong.
He has scored 33% of all of our goals this season. If he gets injured we would be in serious trouble.

A dreadful start to the season
No investment whatsoever
Total uncertainty against a backdrop of a takeover
Pandemic
Injuries
Away wins at Arsenal, Liverpool, Everton, Fulham
Still in The Prem
Ffs we’ll be ok next season..........enjoy the summer, hopefully the pandemic will be all but over, some strengthening of the team....
And all back at The Turf.....

Re: mighty Clarets v Liverpool
Course there is Bill and I do get your point. It's just that this season more than any with the lack of summer signings, a plethora of injuries which we've not had before, especially early season to Mee and Tarks, a takeover and a huge flirtation with relegation, I'm simply happy to get over the bloody line and I'll take owt above 18th tbh. Now we'll see what the owners are really about, because like pretty much everybody else I know it won't be good enough next season to lose virtually all your home games with a crowd back watching and to be hovering in and around the bottom 3 praying there are 3 crapper teams below us. We definitely need to strengthen big style as things have seriously moved on (look at Leeds for example!) and we need to move accordingly or this time next year we'll be the next Sheffield Utd for sure.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Wed May 19, 2021 10:33 pmYes, it certainly does.

Re: mighty Clarets v Liverpool
it was a bang average Liverpool performance, we huffed and puffed, played some really nice stuff at times but Dyche has it 100% spot on - we lacked decisiveness and quality, he'll want to address that in the summer so let's hope there are funds to enable him to do so. There were some good performances tonight and some not so good, the lads need help.
