Re: Interview with Barry Kilby
I would work for Barry Kilby based on that. He comes across as a genuine down to earth man and is the main reason why we are where we currently are.
That the new owners haven't kept his services is a real mystery - maybe he didn't like the cut of their jib and wouldn't want to work for them!!

Re: Interview with Barry Kilby
I have it on good authority that Barry was a great bloke to work for but perhaps wasn't the sharpest tool in the box himself. However, he was smart enough to surround himself with talented (and sometimes lucky) people. Hence, as organ-grinder he was exceptional; as a monkey, less so.

I know Barry really well and spoke to him only yesterday. My view of him is he's a totally genuine, down to earth man. I knew his dad Roy who was a big Burnley fan and I do think they are very similar.aclaretinstevenage wrote: ↑Wed May 26, 2021 3:55 pmI would work for Barry Kilby based on that. I don't think there was a suggestion of the new owners not wanting to keep him. He'd taken more of a back seat since 2012 when he announced he was standing down as chairman because of his health which is thankfully OK still some nine and half years later. For the last few years it has been one director running things.
One thing he still is, and always will be, is a Claret. Like me, he was dragged on by his dad. I said to him recently that we were very similar, the only difference was I bought a season ticket and he bought the club.

This. He totally turned around the fortunes of the club and made us a solid Champ team. With Flood he pushed the envelope a bit and we got that first Prem experience which whilst not setting us up made us at least competetive for wages for a couple of years.Claret Till I Die wrote: ↑Wed May 26, 2021 7:11 pmBarry Kilby is the reason why ALK had our Premier league club to buy
Then Dyche worked that minor miracle for a 2nd promotion just in time

It's been sang on many memorable days...
There's only 1 Barry Kilby, 1 Barry Kilby, there's only 1 Barry Kilby!

I recall it being sung in Athens and I'm told one other Burnley director did not appreciate it at all.

There are a great many successful people who could do with learning a thing or two from the way Barry Kilby speaks and conducts himself. He is so incredibly humble and down to earth. No cringeworthy corporate management speak, no platitudes or cliches; just a real bloke.
We are so fortunate to have had his guiding hand and influence directing the club for all those years. We owe him a lot.

Yeah it was a great chorus in Athens, and Barry certainly appreciated it, loved it and lapped it up.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed May 26, 2021 9:14 pmI recall it being sung in Athens and I'm told one other Burnley director did not appreciate it at all.
Think the other guy ( who i wont name as I'm not 100% sure if its him as it was hearsay I heard, but we can call him chive ) wasnt too impressed, but many remember we are where we are now because of Mr Kilby, he was literally the saviour when we were on our knees, not someone who decided he wanted to climb aboard once he saw the gravy train pulling into the station....

Re: Interview with Barry Kilby
I remember when Teasdale was coming to an end my dad was an active member in CISA. I was only about 8 and was dragged to various meetings above pubs and at turf moor. What stands out back then was how angry everyone was. Everyone spoke with passion and anger. The fans and the board. It was like a kids play ground at times.
Then Barry rocks up and I remember how calmly spoken he was. In the face of all the anger he was calm and considered and a leader. He was clearly a cut above everyone else
Even as an 8 year old I picked up on that and I think it’s a fair summary of how things were
